“Ripe is truly a hidden gem in Mount Vernon. The food is consistently good, but the steak is absolutely phenomenal, cooked to perfection every time. The mojitos are also some of the best I’ve had.

The service is excellent, and the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in. What I love most is the atmosphere: simple yet elegant, with the feeling of dining in a cozy home rather than a large restaurant. The photos of back home on the walls add warmth and character, creating a sense of nostalgia and community.

As someone from the Caribbean, I especially appreciate being surrounded by people who feel familiar and share a similar culture. It’s a comfortable place to relax, enjoy great food, and feel at home. Highly recommend!”

“My family and I came here on a whim on our way home from a road trip. We weren’t expecting much. We were just hungry. But man, it exceeded our expectations. Not only was the vibe awesome. Lively on the bar side, but very family oriented on the dining side, the food was delicious, the portions were massive and so reasonably priced. The service was great. Someone was always checking up on us. And the owner even came to ask how we were doing and say hello!! Absolutely exceeded our expectations and we will be driving the hour over the bridge to go back to this spot soon. Highly recommend.”

“I finally came here after years of hearing about this place and trying many different options from places in New Rochelle all the way to Nyack. Although the atmosphere is minimal the food is delicious and plentiful. I felt as if I was picking up plates of soul food from my church ladies with the gospel music playing which I did not mind.

I ordered three dinners we tried the fried chicken, collards, yams and one order of mac and cheese that was a mistake we should have gotten more and order of peach cobbler. As my daughter described it she felt like eating this food was like getting a hug from a grandma! None of the food is overly seasoned which my husband and I prefer but seems to be the common mistake a lot of soul food locations are making.

There is a detour near the location which makes parking a little bit of a challenge however, that will not stop me from returning.”

“This Jamaican restaurant has delicious takeout food. It has good and fast service. Their food is reasonably priced as well. There isn't a long wait. They play reggae music videos and music. There is metered parking and it is wheelchair accessible.”

“Been here twice, and the food has been amazing. I tried the rodeo burger, deluxe, chicken sandwich and the black truffle burger. All three sandwiches are amazing. I also tried the nuggets. The nuggets were good as well. I genuinely enjoy it and the flavoring on the food doesn’t get repetitive.”

I don’t normally eat outside fried chicken but I decided to give it try with rice & peas with oxtail gravy, callaloo. I enjoyed the meal for 2 days. Even my friend who ordered oxtail, she was raving about it as well. She said, “I should’ve ordered 3 more meals.” I’ll be returning there very soon with another friend who likes authentic Jamaican food. 🍱 However, improvement is needed via the phone line, it can be quite challenging.”

“I visited this place twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions. On my first visit, I had the rice and peas and jerk chicken, which was solid. On my second visit, I tried the rice and peas and kingfish, which was also good. However, the price of the kingfish seemed a bit high for the portion size.

Macaroni looks appealing, but it wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dumplings are good.

“We decided to return to this lounge for the second time because we enjoyed the first visit.This visit different but mostly fun nonetheless.We sat for maybe 5-10 minutes because the bartender finished her conversation to attend to us.During those 5-10 minutes we enjoyed the Karaoke that was two rum punches which was a whopping $30.That threw me off a bit because on our first visit we order 6 drinks total for $50.Anyway, the rum punches were good, one was STRONG, the other was sweet but you could still taste the liquor.We were then greeted by a second bartender who was more pleasant than the first and more welcoming.She asked questions and checked on us to make sure we were okay.The dj was good but you can tell he’s old school which is fine because the car attracts crowds off all ages.The regulars there participating in the karaoke had great voices, especially the men.I asked about a food menu but was told that the kitchen was closed, this was about 11:30pm Friday night.They recommended a food truck that was parked next to the building that was affiliated with the lounge.The bathroom was very clean and well kept.

“These are larger than normal sized slices! Don't let the first glance fool you. They're thin and crispy and another review said they're not as salty or greasy as other places and I 100% agree. Our chicken calzone was HUGE but perhaps John thought we didn't have enough food. The chicken wasn't flavorful but the marinara that came on the side was real nice. John and his daughter-in-law (?) were so attentive - extra napkins and forks for the kids, offered to rewrap our calzone to go, some little candies to go. As for ambience, you're not coming in here for that but with 2 kids, you don't need that. But if you're looking for the nostalgic pizzerias from back in the day, this is it. Just missing an arcade system. Also heads up, cash only.”
