“Ripe is truly a hidden gem in Mount Vernon. The food is consistently good, but the steak is absolutely phenomenal, cooked to perfection every time. The mojitos are also some of the best I’ve had.

What I love most is the atmosphere: simple yet elegant, with the feeling of dining in a cozy home rather than a large restaurant. “I visited this place twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions. On my first visit, I had the rice and peas and jerk chicken, which was solid. On my second visit, I tried the rice and peas and kingfish, which was also good. However, the price of the kingfish seemed a bit high for the portion size.

Macaroni looks appealing, but it wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dumplings are good.

“I’ve lived in Mount Vernon for all my life and have found this place to be one of the best. The only thing I wish they still did was delivery. The food is always good. The service has always been accommodating when they did delivery. And even when I barely had the money to pay for food they still provided service. For me this restaurant has a special place in my heart.“

“These are larger than normal sized slices! Don't let the first glance fool you. They're thin and crispy and another review said they're not as salty or greasy as other places and I 100% agree. Our chicken calzone was HUGE but perhaps John thought we didn't have enough food. The chicken wasn't flavorful but the marinara that came on the side was real nice. John and his daughter-in-law (?) were so attentive - extra napkins and forks for the kids, offered to rewrap our calzone to go, some little candies to go. As for ambience, you're not coming in here for that but with 2 kids, you don't need that. But if you're looking for the nostalgic pizzerias from back in the day, this is it. “I finally came here after years of hearing about this place and trying many different options from places in New Rochelle all the way to Nyack. Although the atmosphere is minimal the food is delicious and plentiful. I felt as if I was picking up plates of soul food from my church ladies with the gospel music playing which I did not mind.

I ordered three dinners we tried the fried chicken, collards, yams and one order of mac and cheese that was a mistake we should have gotten more and order of peach cobbler. As my daughter described it she felt like eating this food was like getting a hug from a grandma! None of the food is overly seasoned which my husband and I prefer but seems to be the common mistake a lot of soul food locations are making.

There is a detour near the location which makes parking a little bit of a challenge however, that will not stop me from returning.“

“I love this place. I literally walk here because I love their food: lo mein, mei fun, wings, fried rice, and white rice - you can't miss anything. They deliver, and you can even order via Uber. The young lady has a sense of humor; we had a reaction with no words, but we laughed. I love both ladies. There is literally no wait for your food the most 5min. You can call or use the app but they're quick and after 15min food is still hot. If you're in Mount Vernon and if you're in the bron and not past 237th then go to Golden Kitchen, it's literally blue on 1st & 4th avenue in Mount Vernon, Google got you but if you know then you'll understand.“

“There is no atmosphere to rate, the service is hit or miss. They can have a bit of an attitude. Normally the oxtail are out of this world good, but lately they have been a bit off. The last plate I got they were so fatty that I barely got any bites of just the meat. Meh.“
