“I visited this place twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions. On my first visit, I had the rice and peas and jerk chicken, which was solid. On my second visit, I tried the rice and peas and kingfish, which was also good. However, the price of the kingfish seemed a bit high for the portion size.

Macaroni looks appealing, but it wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dumplings are good.

“The pizza here is phenomenal. It’s the best pizza in Mount Vernon, possibly the best pizza in Westchester. The pizza is not greasy, and it is also less salty than a lot of places. I also have to comment on the crust, which is uniquely soft and delicious. I don’t go to any other pizzerias anymore. This is the best I have found.

There is another very famous pizza place in Mount Vernon which attracts tourism, but John & Tony’s is better. Come here instead.“

“I’ve lived in Mount Vernon for all my life and have found this place to be one of the best. The only thing I wish they still did was delivery. The food is always good. The service has always been accommodating when they did delivery. And even when I barely had the money to pay for food they still provided service. For me this restaurant has a special place in my heart.“

“I finally came here after years of hearing about this place and trying many different options from places in New Rochelle all the way to Nyack. Although the atmosphere is minimal the food is delicious and plentiful. I felt as if I was picking up plates of soul food from my church ladies with the gospel music playing which I did not mind.

I ordered three dinners we tried the fried chicken, collards, yams and one order of mac and cheese that was a mistake we should have gotten more and order of peach cobbler. As my daughter described it she felt like eating this food was like getting a hug from a grandma! None of the food is overly seasoned which my husband and I prefer but seems to be the common mistake a lot of soul food locations are making.

There is a detour near the location which makes parking a little bit of a challenge however, that will not stop me from returning.“

“Listen I can’t speak for nobody else, I read every review and I hesitated ordering on Uber. But baby I ordered the wrong thing! I meant to order boneless spare ribs and got giant ribs instead GROSS! However I did take a bite and it was good af! But I still didn’t eat them so I ate so-so rice! But the pork fried rice with the egg and cheese wontons were out of this world! Mi god! I almost went to heaven eating the wontons they were the best IVE EVER HAD! Every where gets cheese wontons wrong but no they were right! I can’t wait to try the boneless spareribs next time! “There is no atmosphere to rate, the service is hit or miss. They can have a bit of an attitude. Normally the oxtail are out of this world good, but lately they have been a bit off. The last plate I got they were so fatty that I barely got any bites of just the meat. Meh.“
