Benemon is like a good shirt you can dress up or down- it’s there when you need a dinner reservation day-of, but is also fancy enough for entertaining guests. Their menu has stayed relatively static for the past few years, but offers consistently interesting dishes at a fair price. Ambience is always cozy and bustling with patrons. Excellent intersection of quality and price. For all the above, Benemon is one of my fav restaurants in the city!
I would say the ambiance is great, I can see why people have date nights here. The service is decent. The food is okay. I came from queens to try the unagi don because I didn’t see any places that will give you a whole piece like this. The eel was hard to break apart I would say, like kinda rubbery? Not sure how to explain it. The sauce is as expected. There are a lot of reviews saying the food is oily and I would say those are pretty accurate (especially for yakiniku).
