We are visiting from Spain and someone recommended this place, the food and service were good, the unfortunate situation came with the check, in Europe we dont tip and we were informed that in the US it is not an obligation, we made the mistake of not paying a tip and the waiter reacted so unprofessional and he was so rude that even told us not to come back that is out of place and very disappointing. Go for the history and maybe not the food. We tried New England clam chowder and a plate of 3 oysters. Oysters were alright. They certainly had the whole selection but the price was steep compared to oysters we had the day before. Service was alright. The atmosphere carried the experience for this restaurant. Overall food wise nothing to write home about but if you want to feel 'back in the day' then this might scratch the itch.

Decided to have a bite here after meeting my aunt who came in on a train. Ordered a bloody Mary with an oyster shooter in it, and we each had a bowl of chowder. Pretty yummy. They were busy but, after taking our order the waiter never returned to our table. The soup took forever, and nobody ever came back to check on us or ask if we needed anything else.
