“We tried Taco Island Mexican Cantina in Mount Sinai for the first time tonight. We ordered the Fish Taco, Avacado Taco, Chicken Bacon Ranch Burrito, chips with homemade guac, and lastly the Pizza De Birria. The food was outstanding!! Honestly, it was some of the best Authentic Mexican food we have ever had. (Even our picky kids loved it) The employees were also super nice and brought us chips and sauces while we waited. After we ate they also brought us to go containers and a bag with a smile. 10 out of 10. Will return soon.“

“I came in today for the first time, as I moved a little while before it was built. The woman at the front was extremely helpful in giving me suggestions, and you could tell they actually enjoy the food they serve. And they should, because I got home and bit into the taco and immediately put this place down as a go to spot going forward lol.“

Top-tier service, great cashier.

Guac is great, pork taco was great. Chicken taco was super dry and nasty. Steak taco was okay.

Rice was straight mushy. Could be from the drive home though.

My main issue is the sauce, asked for the spiciest they had and it didn’t have a hint of spice. It tasted sweet, a mild sauce from Taco Bell is spicier.

Really confused by it, my girlfriend who can’t handle pepper said it was good and had a “little kick to it”. She can’t even handle green Tabasco without freaking out… I NEED ME SOME HEAT MIGUEL!“

“Simply the best taco spot in the area for true street-style tacos. I used to drive all the way to Queens to get tacos like these, and now I’ve found this gem just 2 minutes from home.

I ordered the birria tacos and they were absolutely amazing. The meat quality was excellent and the portions were very generous. The birria consommé was perfectly seasoned and came with a grilled jalapeño that added the perfect touch. The tacos also came with fries, and the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food.

I also tried the chorizo tostadas, and once again the portion size and flavor were incredible. The condiments were fresh and well balanced, and those came with fries too. There was so much food that it was easily enough for two people.

I can’t wait to go back and try more items from the menu. If you’re looking for authentic, delicious street-style tacos, this is the spot.“

“My Dominican wife and I have tried almost every Hispanic restaurant on Long Island. We love authentic Mexican, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, Colombian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, all types of real Hispanic food. The food from this place is absolutely unbelievable. The el pastor taco was enough to make me close my eyes and block out the world. It was by far the most amazing taco I’ve ever had in my life. The octopus was also out of this world. The flavor and portions are unmatchable. I can’t say enough about how good this food is. You would never know it, hidden in this location. “This is great, we've been going to their other restaurant in East Moriches for many many years. Now we have the option to go here when we shop in Riverhead. Excellent traditional Mexican cooking and menu. This location retained the liquor license from the former Golden Jalapeño So they have a bar and you can get a beer or mixed drinks with or without a meal! Outstanding!!! Can't wait to go back soon!“

“I stumbled upon this place and I'm glad I did it's not the nicest part of coram but don't let that scare you off the food was made fresh the cook was fantastic and helped me choose because I told him I'm Irish and not familiar with Spanish food only taco bell fast food. He made me delicious mouth watering FRESH chicken tacos. I'm looking forward to the next meal he makes me. Give them a try I'm so glad I did and with taco bell opening in coram it would be a shame if you didn't try this place and only ate taco bell you would be missing out on something ?“

“As usual the food and drinks were delicious. Unfortunately the waiter was rude. He screwed up my order. Then came over and twice asked me to admit I ordered something I didn’t. The waitresses were nice as always. Nothing was done by him. He did not apologize. Did not even offer to comp a drink or something. Not that I was looking for something free. He didn’t care. Really sad. At least the waitresses apologized.“

“This place is the perfect balance of hole in the wall but nice night out type of vibes.

The decor screams authentic and fiesta, the servers are all very friendly and helpful, and we love the menu!

There is something for everyone, our favorites are the fajitas and the enchiladas. There’s even a kids menu so our little guys can enjoy the night out with us.

Drinks are always great and the prices won’t disappoint either.

“Even though our son is a professional chef and we think of ourselves as "foodies," we have only limited experience with Caribbean cuisine. That's going to change, because we will absolutely go back to Taino's to explore more of the menu. We went around 6-ish on a Monday night to celebrate my birthday, and the only other patrons were at the bar. They appeared to be regulars, and the vibe was warm and casual. Coconut shrimp is one of my guilty pleasures and I order it every time I see it on a menu. Tainos' was quite possibly the best I've ever had: enormous shrimp coated in batter and flaked coconut, fried to crispy perfection and served with a to-die-for coconut dipping sauce. I'm also a skirt steak junkie, so ordered the Churrasco al la Parrilla which is served with a large serving of rice, bowl of red beans and chimichurri sauce, all presented beautifully, complete with an orchid. I was so full from the shrimp, I took nearly all of my entree home. Our lovely waitress (also the bartender) packed up my leftovers so they were just as attractive and appetizing the next day. Everything, including the steak, reheated perfectly. Granted, at my age I have a small appetite, but I'll be finishing the second (!) half of my steak, rice and beans tonight (night #3). Our son ordered the chicken Canasta de Platano (plantain 'baskets') appetizer and grudgingly gave me only a tiny (delicious) taste. Husband ordered fried cheese, and ate a whole piece even before I could take a photo. Again, I was allowed only one bite, but know I'll order my own the next time we're there. He also ordered the skirt steak, but our son tried the Colombian platter (steak, avocado, pork cracklings, fried egg, rice and more), which he loved. He gave me the sweet corn cakes which I devoured. Can't wait to try "mofungo," which seems to be a signature dish. The oxtails look fabulous, too.“
