Now imagine that bar was plucked right out of that place and put in the middle of Rye. That's The Pub. It's a hole-in-the-wall dive bar that's perfectly out of place in Rye. “Excellent coffee shop on Long Island, come for the caffeine and stay for the community. We stopped by my mom’s favorite coffee shop mid-afternoon, because the family was trying to kill me with caffeine deprivation. The oat milk latte was carefully made and smooth and easy to drink. The interior is great, for a brief moment in time you are anywhere in the World with roll up garage doors, fooseball and a clean setting for evening entertainment. “My best friend lives in Queens so she and I come to the Onion Tree every other Friday night. I wish this place was closer to me. I live in Yonkers. The food is superb, seasoned extraordinarily. The chicken is fresh, soft and cut into small bites. I always order chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, or chicken tikka pizza. I have never had food that I enjoyed this much and I have tried all foods all over the world. I never get tired of this place. And the food is served quickly and piping hot. They’re opening a second place in Manhattan. We’re getting closer to Yonkers!! The drinks are awesome too. Barbra and Louis work behind the bar. They’re friendly and great bartenders.“

“I was with some friends for a bit of a reunion. I honestly did not know what to expect from Haven but all I can say is that it is a wonderful, friendly and cozy place. The lite bites were all tasty, but the tap list, the whisky...and whiskey list were outstanding, but the cocktails...oh my! Everyone in our party thought the cocktails were truly outstanding, different, and creative. And priced fairly. I have paid more at several places for cocktails that were nowhere as good as at Haven. The owners are delightful and made us feel at home and next time I find myself in Port Chester, forget anywhere else...I know where I am going. Thanks Haven!“

• Crispy Calamari & Crispy Sushi Bite – a must-try! The sushi bite was so good I ordered two rounds.

• Sweet Potato Fries – always a a good idea.

• 12-Hour Short Ribs – 4/5; flavorful, but would’ve been perfect if a bit more tender.

• Steak Au Poivre – 4.5/5; cooked well, though the sauce leaned slightly on the bitter side.

• Steak Yakisoba – 4/5; satisfying and well-balanced.

• Black Gold Truffle Fried Rice – 4/5; rich, but had a slight bitter aftertaste.

• Desserts – great variety, and everything we tried was chef’s kiss.

Overall, a really enjoyable dining experience with standout appetizers and desserts. Would definitely come back to try more! ♡“

“The food and service was excellent. All three of us had the salmon BLT. A plus that it's on multigrain toast. They served the mayo on the side so it wasn't slathered too heavily and the side chips were great, not greasy or salty. I substituted a salad for the chips and it was generous and fresh. Our server was friendly, efficient and had a sense of humor. We had a great time and will be back.“

“The Snug and City Island Diner are true local treasures. They’re owned by the same wonderful people and share a kitchen, but each has its own vibe and hours — and together they’re unbeatable.

The fully loaded chili here is hands-down the best I’ve ever had. It’s rich, hearty, perfectly seasoned, and also shows up in their nachos, which makes them next-level comfort food.

One of my favorite things? They have a secret menu (no longer advertised) with specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and specialty hot dogs — and we absolutely love it. The Tuscan Melt (no onion) is perfection, and the Reuben Dog is unforgettable. With the hot dogs you get two, and you can mix and match styles, which is such a fun and generous touch.

At The Snug, my go-to drink is a black & tan, which pairs perfectly with the cozy, neighborhood pub feel. Over at the diner, my favorite dish is the Corned Beef Hash breakfast — classic, satisfying, and done exactly right.

Beyond the food, what really sets these places apart is the people. Every server is genuinely kind, welcoming, and deeply plugged into the City Island community. You feel like a regular even on your first visit.

“I discovered this taproom when roaming around Stamford. They have over 40 different taps where you can pour your own beers, wines, and even kombuchas. It’s self service like frozen yogurt and they have different glasses you can choose from depending on your choice. They also have glass cleaners at the taps too. This taproom has darts, shuffleboarding, and karaoke amongst things to do. Highly recommend“

Opinions about this Mamaroneck institution are as strong and mixed as their cocktails, but as various bars open and close all around it, this place stays true to itself. It's a neighborhood dive bar of the sort that are ubiquitous in my native Wisconsin, but rare gems in the NYC metro. Craft cocktails and small batch IPAs will not be found here, but simple mixed drinks and domestic drafts are always on hand. Darts and a few other bar games are cheap or free, and the beautiful original window storefront opens up wide to let the warm air in on summer nights.
