The LC Cafe X 老朱茶檔 is a slightly upscale Hong Kong style cafe with a neat, clean, and western-style decor. The restaurant serves comfort food, but the seating is tight with not much room between tables, and the AC is often blasting freezing cold, causing food to get cold quickly. Service is generally good and efficient, though not always attentive.
The menu is large, with some dishes exceeding expectations. The tiger shrimp and bbq pork with scrambled eggs on rice was a pleasant surprise with excellent quality and presentation. The Eisbein with sauerkraut is good, very crisp, and can easily feed 2 adults, though it takes half an hour to cook. The grilled ox tongue, baked rice with ox tongue, and grilled ox tongue on a bun are also good. However, some dishes are average in taste, like the pork chop with fried eggs and pineapple bun with butter, and the satay beef noodles. The lobster bisque with rice had good presentation but was watery, and the sauce in the ox tongue baked rice was heavy. Some dishes are super salty, like the mushroom sauce in baked dishes. The iced Dalgona coffee was a hit, and the honey lemon hot tea is very good, but the yin yang “coffee” was not good.
Prices are above average, with each set costing more than $20, and the food quality is not always value for money. The afternoon tea deal is good, available 7 days a week at $10 per dish. Despite the price and tight seating, many would return to try other items on the menu.
