The lady who owns the place and always seems to take care of us and is always very friendly. As for the beers and ciders they are the best we’ve had. “My biggest criticism is the lack of cleanliness in themed restaurants these days. You put so much effort into decor, and a yearly cleaning would not be too much of a sacrifice for decorum. Bartender was too busy to tend to the tables. Gave a good tip, but while I understand I was underwhelmed.“

“2025 Review:
This place has gone through major overhaul! The Zed formerly known as ZHaus was always a great spot for community and beer— and they doubled down and chose to focus on just that. There are a variety of food stalls to choose from along with a stage area for live music, and a large spot that opens toward their parking lot, which serves as the location of the Lents international farmers market. Happy to have a good place to grab food a beer and spend time with my friends.

2018 Review:
I want so badly to like this place, I really really do. This neighborhood hasn't had a lot in the way of high quality restaurants and when this opened up, they were welcomed with open arms.
Unfortunately it just doesn't live up to our expectations.
The food is subpar: The ingredient leave a lot to be desired and the execution just isn't there. Salads come with wilty/old looking veggies. Bread is overly toasted. Fried food is extra greasy. The best thing on the menu is probably the kids Mac & Cheese--it's really tasty!
The service is rarely good: Sometimes we have attentive servers, but most often service is slow or bumpy. We have had experiences with LOOOONG waits and no check ins or apologies, times where incorrect orders come out, and times with just blah servers. What's even more frustrating is when it doesn't seem to be because it's busy. One time we had a terrible experience, but it was SLAMMED. But often, we see staff talking to each other rather than being attentive to customers.
The beer is great: If you sit at the bar you can be fairly guaranteed to get good service. There's a beautiful skylight over the bar as well, so it's really a nice spot. They also have great deals for growler fills.
Also, they are wonderfully involved in the community. They support local fairs, the farmers market, The Pickles Games/fans, and more. They open their doors to people during the heat and offer water without requiring purchases.
They have so much potential, and the community is very supportive because they want them to succeed. But there is now a lot of construction with new food options opening up soon, and Z-Haus won't be able to rest on the dedication of the community alone. Real changes need to be made to improve the quality of the ingredients, the execution of cooking, and the training of staff.“

“Tall booths and a cozy, dimly lit atmosphere make this spot perfect, especially on a rainy Portland day. The service is great, too. Unfortunately, McMenamins' food quality has declined while prices have risen. I’ll stick to happy hour cider and tots—everything else just isn’t worth it.“

Their bred and butter option always has some random compound butter --it was uncooked tumeric and ginger when we were there---which was inedible. “Not perfect for me (gluten, peanut, alcohol free), but the staff here are really good and caring. And it works well for others I live with. We appreciate the variety of plants in their small (relative to other locations) outdoor area. And we put up a hummingbird feeder that we refill, and they've been appreciative of our efforts. We get to see more of those little cuties now.“

“This is our local pub and the default place to grab drinks and dinner after a long week. There's always a great selection of local beers on draft, and the seasonal cocktails are a favorite. I often order the Blue Bayou salad, the Portland dip sandwich, or the Captain Neon burger, always with tots. Sadly the Scooby Snacks are no longer available here, so we'll occasionally travel to McMenamins locations further afield for those.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. If I have one criticism, it's that they often seem understaffed here, with one server to wait all the tables and tend bar. But ultimately it doesn't matter, I'll be going here until I die.“
