This was my second visit to Janken; the food, ambiance, and service are excellent. I love the cherry blossom sculpture. We ordered steak tartare, broccolini, sea scallops, and salmon tataki. Janken has a strong grasp of the concept of umami, in my opinion - the complexity of flavors is just lovely. The prices are relatively high for Portland, but this is a special place.

I have read good and bad reviews and was leery of going to this restaurant. However, what a great experience!! The food was beyond great, it was fantastic. Service was exemplary. Sonia was our server and was wonderful. The minuses were the music was too loud and I didn't appreciate the servers cleaning the table while we still eating and talking but overall a very great experience. Costly but worth every cent.
