“So glad I was able to try out this place. This place definitely lives up to its reviews. The packaging is so efficient and so cute. You get a cute carry out bag that is reusable, and it fits so much. I also loved that the utensil packaging came with a floss pick to make sure you don't have seaweed stuck in your teeth! Onto the food... I ordered the unagi don because I love unagi, and this bowl did not disappoint. I ended up adding some sliced cucumbers that I had in my fridge. The unagi is a generous portion and is quite flavorful. Because we did do carry out, the rice did get a little clumpy in texture. I would still get it again though My husband got the salmon don with extra fish (2oz). I think the extra 2oz is a necessary amount of fish, which can make the bowl a little spend but the fish quality was good. Overall I would come back again and try some of the other dons and poke bowls, but the unagi don may still be my go to... Definitely check this place out if you're in th“
“We have the impression that Japanese restaurants are expensive while not offering authentic taste, but the chef here has good taste. Lunch prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is elegant. We had the Braised Pork Belly, Tonkatsu Curry, and Bento Box (Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, and Shrimp Tempura). Unfortunately, the shrimp tempura in the bento box was a 'deep fried shrimp' than Japanese TEMPURA, and the cutlet in the curry was disappointingly thin and lacked juiciness. Additionally, red pickled ginger is not used in Japan, as it tends to overshadow the curry's flavor. If FUKUJINZUKE, a classic curry accompaniment, is unavailable, it might be better to serve the curry without any side. (By the way, red pickled ginger makes an excellent garnish for beef bowls.??) The staff was so pleasant.?✨“
“Tried Fish & Rice for the first time after reading all of the great reviews and I'm happy to say that it was a great place! We got a few rolls from here and even though we thought the prices were pretty hefty compared to competitors, the rolls themselves were delicious, I especially loved the spam roll! The decor of the restaurant is very welcoming and cozy, with large tables suited towards big groups and a few high table chairs for singles or couples. The only thing I disliked about our visit here is that there is a smell that gets into your clothes which is not pleasant. Once we left, the next day our jackets smelled like the restaurant and we had to wash all our clothes from that visit to get rid of it.“
“Tokyo Sando was scrumptious and flavorsome. We got and tried a few things. Got the egg Sando and it was delightful. I am a sucker for some good egg salad and theirs hits that spot lol. We also got the Naka sando, miso chicken katsu sando, and the miso pork katsu sando. All the sandos were crunchy and the meats juicy! Blended extremely well with the bread. The bread is soft and buttery. Not pictured is the chicken karaage. It was yummy, crunchy and was like popcorn chicken. I’m happy they moved and DIDN’t permanently close. I have more items I want to try, so I will be back. The hours and product are limited so go earlier than later. We went on a Saturday around noonish and it BUSY! The wait can seem long but it really isn’t. This place is popular and well worth it. Parking can be rough but manageable.“
“A Vegan Japanese Restaurant in PDX?... I was curious and had to go. So I grabbed a friend and off we went on another foodie adventure. The restaurant is located on the east side of the river downtown. Parking wasn't too bad at lunchtime, but I have been in that area during peak times where it could be a problem. I found a spot right in front of the place but left that for my friend. I parked right around the block in a nice 2-hour zoned spot.My friend was a shop teacher and he loved the decor. He was commenting on the materials the tables and seats were made of and how to make them. He loved the design, and I had to agree. It was pretty cool.We were quickly seated and shown the menu on the QR code. All the food ordering and payment are done on the online app. Once you put everything in, the food is rung up based on your table QR # and brought over.Being a vegan restaurant, we had to try the Karaage and katsu. Instead of chicken, they used tofu. The Karaage was tasty and had a similar texture to pressed chicken nuggets. The curry was tasty, too, and the katsu was again more of the pressed tofu chicken substitute. In the future, I would skip the katsu dish and order just the curry and another order of the Karaage. Their food is more izakaya comfort, so I'll definitely have to go back to try their udon... being a vegan udon, I'm curious to how they can mimic the flavors of the traditional dish.Anyway, if you are vegan/vegetarian and want something other than japanese sushi type food, I would recommend checking out Obon Shokudo.“
“This place is great- it’s fresh, it’s fair priced, it’s healthy, it has 4 options menu what makes it better because food is prepared daily like the ones at home. The chef is such a friendly, polite and honest person that makes you feel welcome. Also it’s local and we support small family businesses.Vegetarian options: I ordered the kale with vegetables and I really enjoyed it! Highly recommended!“
“Fantastic place for sushi. Many unique rolls more than we could choose so we will be back. Exceptionally friendly service. Very clean and well thought out atmosphere. Third sushi place I've been to on this side of town and this is the only one I'll keep coming back to.“
“My god. What a treasure. just went after 2 months of showing up at the wrong time I finally hit the eclipse blood moon sweet spot. & I don’t hold a single thing against them. If they were more available, this city would fall to ruin & musubi would replace money. I am a huge fan, so I went in knowing what I was going to get. first bite wiped the slate clean, I have never had a teriyaki spam musubi anywhere near as good as this one.if your reading this your wasting your time. pitch a tent NOW. wait for the dawn of the fourth day, & when you see that open sign get in & get what you can. this is the greatest place for food on this side of the river & that’s no exaggeration.“
“Ordered the chicken sandwich and potato salad. Both were surprisingly complex and delicious. Guy at the window was friendly. The only seating here was benches outside so we took it to go since it was cold. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu! Everyone in my group loved it.“
“Hate the use of plastic on non-liquid to-go containers! I cut down my orders by 75% because of it. So wasteful - I loved the paper compostable containers that were used previously. How about reusable containers that we borrow and bring back? What's sustainable about your to go containers at this point? As a sustainable business you should do better! Ugh so bummed!Otherwise...Great sushi with sustainable fish. They will make traditional rolls but they're not on the menu. No yellowtail/hamachi. There's a burger for the non-fish eater. Not a kid friendly spot. More upscale. House music and 45m waits on weekend nights. My favorite locations are Alberta and Downtown.Dietary restrictions: The restaurant is mostly gluten free - even the tempura and soy sauce!Parking: Parking can be a challenge especially on weekends and the more apartment buildings go up.“
“This place was delicious! Takoyaki is huuuge. We also ordered the large chashu bowl to share and I was worried that it wasn't going to be super flavorful because we forgot to add sauce, but because of the 3 additional toppings, including spicy chicken, it was perfect! Super flavorful. We also got a sake to share. And that was all plenty for us two!“
“Had a lovely early dinner here before a show at Moda on a Thursday. Service was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and everyone was so kind and helpful. I have the palate of a five year old child so I stuck to the basics but the others in my party had much more elaborate selections that they loved! All around delicious and fresh dishes, plus you can balance out your meal with some donuts, right next door ?“
“Customer service was great! It was my first time there and the two gentlemen were so nice and explain the menu really well I ended up choosing the build your own poke bowl tempura shrimp as appetizer and the fan favorite dark horse.. everything was delicious ? I’ll definitely drive back from WA to this location to dine in with my daughter“
“Delicious, convenient and affordable. We came here because the sushi restaurant down the way required reservations even though the restaurant was empty. I am glad we found Umami because it was so good. All of the rolls we tried were great, Spicy tuna, dragon, double, salmon. The service was also excellent. He warned us that the proportions were large and we ignored him and ordered too much. If he tells you you've ordered a lot, listen! The atmosphere was also very nice especially with the nice weather out. Would recommend!!“
“I have read good and bad reviews and was leery of going to this restaurant. However, what a great experience!! The food was beyond great, it was fantastic. Service was exemplary. Sonia was our server and was wonderful. The minuses were the music was too loud and I didn't appreciate the servers cleaning the table while we still eating and talking but overall a very great experience. Costly but worth every cent.“
“stopped by for late lunch and tried their bento based on the great reviews (lunch pricing ends at 3pm). the food was super fresh and yummy! ordering is via QR code on the tables. the server was kind and checked on us. sashimi and sushi were fresh. the spicy chicken serving was probably twice the size of what i usually get in a bento. i ended up bringing most of the chicken & rice home and had them for dinner. this meal fed me all day!“
“Love this place. The food is delicious, generous portions, staff is very sweet and polite, atmosphere seems authentic to me, although I’ve never been to Japan. I’ve been here a few times, including bringing family from out of town. Highly recommend.“
“Super stoked to have a solid Chinese takeout style spot so close to me. The lunch special was a great price and the portions were perfect. The food was quality. I’m a sucker for crispy beef and was super pleased with my order.Crab puffs was killer as well“
“Food:Definitely captures the homemade Japanese taste! I love how the fish is very fresh & the quality for the food is indeed exceptional!Service:Staff are responsive in terms of orders, well mannered, & are welcoming!Atmosphere:I always loved visiting to Kashiwagi, give me a nice traditional Mom & Pop Sushi bar feeling that captures a Japanese hometown experience, would recommend heavily to those who wish to try sushi for the 1st time!“
“We ordered 1 spider roll, 1 crunchy green dragon roll, 1 avocado roll, seaweed salad, 2 miso soups, rice and an egg - with a side order of their homemade sriracha sauce -The food was very very good - high quality ingredients - taste was awesome - the spider roll had very well seasoned and crunchy crab - the eel and avocado on the green dragon crunchy roll was fresh and tasty - rice was done right - miso soup very deep savory flavor - the homemade sriracha sauce is out of this world the best I have ever tasted and I’m a pepper head - customer service was the best we have encountered anywhere - cozy clean well decorated atmosphere - we will for sure return and we highly recommend it they also have a grasshopper sushi which I have heard awesome opinions on“
“I've had Nodoguro on my must-try list for a while, and I'm so happy my boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The atmosphere was intimate, and the overall experience was great. I enjoyed every dish. Definitely planning to return for special occasions.“
“Nice sushi experience. I am a sushi lover but this place offered new flavors and textures that I have never had. I tried the green machine as many people posted pictures so it seemed popular and I had to try. It was a bit sweet for me but still interesting and good. The big island was really good, very unique flavors. I have never had a sushi roll with chrunchy peppers. Spicy edamame was spicy! Good but spicy so if you are a bit wimpy don't get it. I will be back to try new rolls!“
“A small cozy place with great Ramen! So far I've only had their Ramen for a quick lunch, and I like it. Their Ramen is better than some of these Teriyaki places and probably at the same level as other Japanese restaurants I've been to.Will come back and try their other stuff.“
“I have eaten ramen from food carts in Shanghai, and the famous Kodawari Ramen in Paris, in New York and Berlin, in Toronto and London and Belmont Kitchen's Dan Dan is one of the best bowls of ramen I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Sweet and salty and spicy, the perfect harmony of sesame, garlic, onion, ginger, turmeric, and shitake all make the most buttery umami broth I've ever had, just the right amount of heat. It's perfect on a damp Portland evening, eaten under the little lot tent, lit by a neon open sign. It's an entire beautiful vibe around this perfectly beautiful dish. The dumplings, and sushi rolls are also delicious, consistently well made, but the next best thing on the menu is the inari. I could not recommend this little unassuming cart enough - the host is also lovely and warm, making every visit feel special as well as nourishing ( and the egg is always perfect. How do they do that??) .“
“The food is excellent and the staff is very nice! Also, they fulfill as ordered. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood! (PS - I want to add we've actually gotten food four times here so far, consistently a pleasure as stated, so not just a one-time thing!)“
“Go here for an authentic old school Japanese sushi house experience! Ingredients are top notch. With specials featuring the best of the catch. I look forward to going back with a large group. And straying a bit further off of the standard items.“
“I Messed up my order and they let me change it 5 min later no charge. Best place around. Plus the food is also best place around ?? seriously 100/100 will eat here as long as they are openSeems under new management for a bit now post COVID and they rock ?“
“First time coming out to the Food Hall and it was an amazing experience. The range in food options will always help to ensure that everyone in your party can find something delicious.Although the hall is open seating, it creates an inviting atmosphere. Ambient low-lightning helps to create a safe and warm environment for a person to enjoy themselves. The pricing for food and drink items are skill solid. The counters, tables, and bathrooms are always being serviced and each vendor has their own unique presentation. All of the staff were extremely helpful and kind, but I HAVE to spotlight Brandon. The staff all rotate and work in each part of the Hall, where ether it be for ramen, drinks, or ice cream dates. Brandon is a true Swiss-army knife. His drink recommendations were wonder spot-on and he was super helpful when recommending dishes to order. Truly, being helped by Brandon helped to elevate an already great experience. The Food Hall will definitely be a staple restaurant for every future visit to downtown Portland. So happy that I decided to eat here!“
“Awesome food. I got a plate with rice, gyoza, karaage, and extra miso soup and it fed three people for abt 21$. It was delicious and still crispy and hot after driving home to eat it because it was too hot and busy at the carts. The cook and cashier was one person and she was very nice and welcoming. The food was also ready insanely fast.“
“The guy behind the counter forgot to pack my rice in the to-go bag the other day and ran out into the parking to flag me down to give it to me. I feel like a lot of places today wouldn’t even bother. The service is great and the food is quite good. I’ve never had a bad experience from this restaurant.“
“Some of the best bang for buck food in the area. Portions are generous. I can barely finish the chicken and rice even when very hungry. Guy working at the front is very kind and enthusiastic and always greets me with a smile. If you need something to fill you up from empty and don’t feel like spending $15+, this is the go to.“
“The service and attention are excellent, the food is prepared with fresh ingredients and the portions are generous, the price is perfect and the place is extremely clean and I mention it because some establishments do not take care of the cleanliness of the place, the best in the area .“
“Just finished ished another meal here and it was great again. Food, service, and atmosphere is wonderful. Music playing in the background isn't too loud. Fish is really fresh and rice to fish ratio is on point. Love the staff, they are really attentive.“
“Amazing experience!! As a lover of good food I've had my fair share of excellent meals. Recently I visited Portland and went to Zilla Sake. I ordered their Omakase option so I could sample a wide variety of the offerings. This meal ranked as one of the best I've ever had. It included approximately 7 dishes and each one was delicious. Although, I liked everything, I wanted to mention, in my opinion, the top three. If I had to rank the them number 3 would be the Salt Water Eel. Number 2 would be the 7 day dry aged pan seared Kurodai with mushrooms, potatoes and a persimmon purée. These ingredients worked so well together and the Kurodai skin was incredibly crispy. As I come to the number 1 spot I need to preface it with this, occasionally in life you come across a bite of food that makes you stop and say "What the hell!" You slowdown and attempt to savor the morsel you know will sadly soon be gone. The piece of 21 day dry aged New Zealand salmon nigiri was one of those bites. The fish was buttery with an amazing texture. The perfectly seasoned rice and the salt sprinkled on top elevated the this dish to perfection. Lastly the service was top notch. Servers and chefs were attentive, polite and impressively knowledgeable/informative about the food they served. Additionally, Kate, the owner personally provided my wife and I with specific knowledge on the making of Sake, making our future choices when ordering it, not so daunting. Looking forward to my next visit when I return to Portland.“
“As a vegetarian, sometimes finding good sushi options is difficult but this Tempura Veggie was amazing! If you're a fellow vegetarian, definitely check this place out! Great veggie sushi choices and cooked options as well. The Tofu and Veggis yakisoba noodles are the best yakisobas I have had.“
“Yoko's is a cute local Japanese restaurant. It's fairly small so I opted to come early to beat the dinner rush and I'm so glad I did. We came early and it was already packed and up until we left there was still a waiting list. That's how you know it's good! Fish here is fresh and love the options between the sushi/kitchen items. The Wakame salad was nice and they give a large portion for the appetizer to share. Had to get the Taka's Tuna based on reviews and it did not disappoint - it's dense so you probably can split at the table. I probably ordered way too many rolls with the bowl but all were nicely made. Great to see octopus in the bowl as an chef option. As others have said, service here isn't the swiftest but were easy to flag down.“
“I had sushi and a wagyu burger, no bun! I had a Dew Drop which was heavily perfect with the finest sugar rim I’ve ever tasted! The bar tender is super friendly very knowledgeable and kind. The best location for a date night after you could enjoy the moon light and the downtown atmosphere.“
“The OG location. Stellar as always. Loving the availability and freshness of Uni these days. May seem crazy to order a burger at a sushi spot, do it, you won’t be disappointed. Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna was also a table favorite.Vegetarian options: Ask about rolls that can be made vegan. More options than you might think!“
“11:40a on a MondayThere are three tables, all occupied. We order the Inari, a Norimaki, and a Miso Soup. We eat the first two standing at a small bar. Then a table by the window frees up and we enjoy the miso soup there. It's all so good. We then get the three Dango to finish, and order a couple of coffee drinks and a Canele to go with them.Delicious flavors, unique atmosphere. The whole experience is delightful. Thank you!“
“We love sushi… coming from Hawaii. I wasn’t expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality & variety of fish. Their hamachi & salmon toro was delicious…I’d say it’s comparable to Masu but 1/2 the price. So you’re looking to down some sushi and not break the wallet. This is perfect.“
“It's a nice and calm experience. Recommend to try their sushi- the Creamy Dragon Nest and Yum crunchy roll the best! Their Boba tea- Thai ice tea or the brown sugar it's so refreshing! Their is more to try out but this are my favs.“
“A bit on the high side but food was just ok, nothing outstanding for me, possibly great for others. Serving size on the petite side with prices higher than the usual fare of sushi offered at other restaurants. Place is cozy and food comes out one at a time , so you’ll have to wait for the rest of the party to get their orders. Parking is street paid parking.“
“This restaurant is hands down, our favorite place to eat as a family. The food is always delicious and the staff are kind, considerate and accommodating. I've been taking my children here since they were infants and toddlers and we feel like we are treated like family. This is a special place.“
“My friend highly recommended this sushi place to me. I'm glad that I did try here!! The quality far surpasses what we paid for. The server was really welcoming and the atmosphere felt relaxed. I can confidently say it's one of the best neighborhood sushi restaurants in Portland. Also, the happy hour offers GREAT value. We indulged in hamachi rolls, monkey brain, tempura, gyoza, sake, and beer, all for just $43! Hamachi role was my favorite for sure.I will return for their freshly delivered uni on some weekend.“
“Came here for happy hour and was able to be seated right away. It was summer time so we sat in their breezy patio area. We ordered a few items from the HH menu and regular sushi menu. The fish was fresh. Our service was fantastic! Pro tip: HH is all day Sunday.“
“Small place. Some outdoor seats available. But today, some folks from my office made our orders online and some people went to pick it up. I ordered a Tiger roll and California roll. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. Very worth the price for the quality.“
“Wheelchair accessibility: There is actually an elevator to get in, but it isn't obvious. You have to go into the entrance next to the main entrance. I don't think there's a sign for Masu on that entrance even. We used it for our baby stroller.“
“Went here for the first time this week and it was AMAZING. We came in during a week day later in the night and we practically had the place to ourselves, our waiter Karra had superb service. The food was delicious to say the least and the menu had a good variety of options to choose from. The atmosphere was also great, very calm, dim, and somewhere you can get lost talking while eating for hours. We ordered veggie ramen, hello kitty (must try), and miso soup!“
“Great food, great prices, large portion sizes, and best of all the owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I've been eating here going on 7 years, I always get the chicken and pork teriyaki and it's amazing everytime!“
“Just had one of the best experiences of my life at Lilia. Do yourself a favor and do NOT miss the tasting menu, which rotates weekly. It was an incredible value, and more importantly there was not one single disappointing dish in the 8-course lineup. Some stand outs were the amberjack crudo in aguachile: the fish was incredible and cut so pretty, and the aguachile was just the brightest and tastiest i’ve ever had. The quesadilla with huitlacoche, sprouting broccoli and marinated radish: never having tried huitlacoche I was shocked at how decadent and rich it tasted… every flavor in the dish worked like magic with the others. The pork collar: as soon as I touched a piece of the pork collar confit it fell apart under my fork, cooked to perfection. Like the carnitas of your dreams. And the chocolate & salted hazelnut tart with kumquats: probably the most interesting combinations of flavors and textures in any dessert I’ve tried… the kind of experience that’s just delightful every time you take another bite. Every dish was just a surprising explosion of flavors and beauty. This is exciting food. Absolutely no letdowns with the service (every staff member was enthusiastic and knowledgeable) and the ambience as well, but the food is truly mind-blowing.Vegetarian options: Every ingredient is treated like the star in these dishes, which means the vegetarian dishes were a burst of flavor, spice and texture. I had the roasted fennel with fennel harissa and the white asparagus with salsa pipián, pickled rhubarb and morel mushrooms and both were just excellent.“
