“A FOODIE’S SURPRISE FROM AN EATERY WITH HODGEPODGE SELECTIONS OF FOOD.- I am not a fan of places calling themselves “Asian” or “European” or Latin”, which usually means the place has no identity and not clear idea of what food is.- Cuisines are reflect the country/culture of origin NOT a geographical area.- But this place surprisesd me ???.The menu, which is moderately long, requires a some perusal. Thanks for a good waiter who knows the menu???.This is MAINLY A FISH (raw and cooked) Eatery where the chef seems inventive.— He preserves the traditional clean sushi, maki and sashimi ???— His rolls are carefully prepared and not go overboard like many American “sushi” places where the fish are drowned in awful sauces, choked in cheese, of fried to death— Kudos to the very clean and simple Hot Miso soup, and squid salad ???— the tempura is perfect: thin crisp light batter, quick fried in fresh oil, the Shrimp and veggies have retained their flavors. ,, the dipping sauce is not required ?????— The sashimi dinner was fantastic, the fish assortment is great (tuna, salmon, snapper, yellowtail and fatty tuna [my favorite]. The vegs garnishes are terrific ????— the traditional tuna maki is sublime????, it almost virginal Japanese maki.—- the chef-invented Iron Chef Roll is a delightful surprise ????… a medley of fresh slides WITHOUT any drizzle of sauce. The wasabi tobiko filling married the different fish flavors—- and a tasting surprise: on-house fish dish ; mixture of fillet trimmings of what I taste as white tuna, snapper and maybe salmon, light dabbed on a tempura batter (not coated) then seared…perfect with the light dab of ell sauce…?????… THIS SHOULD BE IN THE MENU.Service is outstandingThe entire place has a great dining ambience(What I’m missing is Saki???)Vegetarian options: Vegetarian listings on the menuDietary restrictions: Vegetarian options availableParking: Free parking on siteKid-friendliness: Children welcomedWheelchair accessibility: Doorway and tables accommodate wheelchair“

“We ate here on a Saturday evening, with a reservation for two at 7.30pm. When we arrived the restaurant was quite full and we had to wait a little while before being seated. At that point, the service was very strong. We tried several dishes, including the salad, miso soup, sashimi plate, nigiri plate, and some hand rolls (mushroom, eel, scallop). We tried the tiramisu, chocolate pudding, and crème caramel for dessert. All in all, the food was tasty, the ambiance was relaxing and pleasant, and service was good. We had a very nice evening.“

“Came to give my out of town friend a taste of local sushi, not knowing what to look for. Saw the good reviews and they are 100% accurate. Presentation was great and we both left happy. My friend said the maya was great, he enjoyed its flavor.“

“The food and service was excellent. We enjoyed the sashimi plate as well as a couple of the bowls. It has a bar-like vibe, offering some inventive cocktails. It takes two flights of steep stairs to get there, so the crowd is inevitably younger and able.“

“I stopped by yesterday to grab a quick lunch for me and a friend. It's a small spot with not a lot of seating (I counted 10 seats) that does a brisk takeout business. I ordered three specialty rolls for me and a friend and the food came out fairly quickly. The sushi itself was pretty good and was about $41 for three specialty rolls before tip. I would definitely come back and order again!“

“We have been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally stopped in. We got the matcha chocolate truffle, wild berries, and banana chocolate crepe. They were all really good. The crepe was light, crispy, and buttery and the fillings were spaced out well. Will come again~They have sweet and savory crepe options in a regular size and a mini size. They also offer fruit tea, bubble tea, and tea lattes. There are some gluten free options available. The inside was clean and the staff were nice. There are a few tables to sit at or you can take your food to go. There is no parking lot so you have to park on the street or nearby and walk. If you sign up for their rewards program you get a point for each dollar you spend. With 50 points you can get $5 off.“

“Our first experience at KIKU was highly memorable and a truly delightful evening! 5/5 stars all around! ⭐️ We made a reservation for 8 people which they easily accommodated, and the pacing of the many courses and dishes we all sampled was timely and thoughtful. We also requested a staff member who spoke Japanese because we are in a beginner’s language club trying to improve our Japanese and conversation skills. Yasuko B. was absolutely wonderful!! So patient, kind, and helpful in speaking with us and making it an extremely positive experience. She took great care of our table and made me feel welcome to try speaking in Japanese even though I am a beginner without a lot of confidence. I left feeling very inspired and motivated to continue seeking out experiences like this and hopefully meeting more kind people like Yasuko. All of the food was exceptional, and I especially loved the torikatsu, korokke, iidako, and beef tataki. The drink I ordered, Jade East, was hands down one of my favorite drinks I’ve ever tried. Also, the ube mochi was delicious! Overall, we loved everything about KIKU and we are already looking forward to our next visit. ありがとう ございました !“

“This little gem is very popular and for good reason. Their sushi is delicious, and the service is fast and friendly. The environment is seemingly low key, but it's always a good sign to see the restaurant very popular among locals who could easily go a greater distance for a larger restaurant. It's close to my small town and as a Sushi lover for many years, Yama Sushi is a great choice!“

“GREAT food. The veggie sushi roll was excellent! My cousin Anne thoroughly enjoyed the teriyaki glazed salmon.Good place to take a first date. Lights are SO DIM she won't notice if you pick your nose.NO VEGAN options, other than to order carnivorous fare and they will gladly withhold the meat, egg or cheese (full price).Vegetarian options: One entree: veggie sushi roll.“

“A true hidden gem in pitts, never expected to find a quite authentic Izakaya here. Loved the owner's friendliness, and their karaage and osakamiyaki are really good. It's Izakaya so do not expect fine dining, but if you like a nice food/drink place that's perfect for chats with friends, look no further! Plus their music Playlist just hits every right note with me.“

“Quite the experience. Ordered the 7 course. The first course was awesome, and each one got better and better. The server was fabulous and described each course in detail, including flavor and texture, after placing it in front of us. I highly recommend trying this if you haven't already. Reservations are required.“

“I have too many words to share to describe this establishment. Tonight was my first experience dining here, after a day date with my boyfriend we decided we were in the mood for hibachi. The first mistake we made was driving from Robinson to Carnegie to dine at Benihana‘s. Within thirty minutes of being there, we left (but that’s another story) Unsatisfied and still very hungry, we decided to stop in at Sapporo’s. They didn’t open until 4:30 (at this time it was 4PM) and noticing the website says reservations only, I called to make sure it was okay we dine in. The man on the phone said what time can you be here and I informed him we were already in the parking lot. He told me “I’ll see you in thirty minutes” The moment we walked in we already knew we made the right decision. The table we sat at was full of kind people. Everyone was talking, sharing stories, laughing etc. it literally felt like we were sitting at the dinner table with FAMILY. The chef came out who happens to be the owner. A one man show, and boy did he kill it! The food was so fresh. I had the filet and scallops and it was cooked to perfection. Not only did he make a great meal. He shares stories himself, took the time to actually enjoy our company and show his appreciation that we were there. He must be the sweetest man I’ve ever met. His wife was very pleasant as well! The waitress was so accommodating and very on top of things with her being the only one there. I honestly think this is the longest review I ever made… I could go on and on but long story short, you will NOT be disappointed with Sapporos.! Living nearly 5 minutes away, this will be our forever date night spot!“

“The sushi was amazing. I've tried a ton of sushi places around Pittsburgh PA and this just barely loses the 1st place spot. This is like a 9.8 while the first is 9.9.The salmon sashimi melted in my mouth. It was tender and cut perfectly. A tiny bit of soy or salt and it is divine. I've never had octopus sashimi that was so tender and tasty. Was not rubbery at all.The spicy tuna roll had a little kick too it, and was very good. but that is from me that can barely eat spicy food. FYI jalapenos are pretty spicy too me.The eel sushi was out of this world. The shrimp sushi was prepared delicately so that it was super tender and had that nice fresh taste of shrimp.I got the P5 Sushi & Sashimi (for 2) and let the chief know what I was allergic too and he prepared a beautiful and amazingly tasty assortment for me. Was worth every penny. The miso soup was good. The custard buns were very good. I was not hopeful with that too be honest but they had good flavor and good texture. They were a nice subtle sweetness at the end of the meal.I didn't try and of their bubble tea but if it is like the rest of what I tried I'm sure it is great. Will update once I go back to try those.I highly recommend this place to anyone that loves sushi. Will have to make a TikTok on this place next time I go. It is too good. More people need to know of this treasure.“

“Food was decent . The waiter was fast and he food was timed well. Only issue was the appetizer was a bit on the small size and seemed over fried. Maybe they fry it and then set it aside and then fry it again when ordered to heat it up. Other than that I liked the res of the food and the atmosphere.“

“It's a nice place. It's a little small but it works for them in a casual stop-in-for-a-bite way. I enjoyed my meal enough that I think I'd enjoy a different selection more and would be happy to go again. They could use bigger bowls though. The portion is not at all at issue. I definitely felt it was generous but the size and/or maybe shape of the bowl made it a bit of a chore to eat.“

“An enjoyable experience for the whole family! We went on a Friday around 11:30 and were sat with another family at the hibachi grill. The chef was deadpan and hilarious. Highlights include the volcano and the sake gun , which made the meal feel more like a fun experience .Ample food left enough for left overs the next day.“

“The fresh fry on the grill comes through and it tasted really good. I would definitely order again. The container is unfortunately styrofoam and it's the divided kind so you're not getting as much food as would fit a container without the dividers fyi. It's still a good portion and I had leftovers for lunch the next day.“

“this is a nice little restaurant. It's not big or fancy but the staff makes you feel welcome. The menu is pretty extensive & the prices are good & the portions are really good. I had their hot tea & it was very good. The food was excellent! If you enjoy authentic Japanese food & friendly staff then you should visit Ginza Japanese Restaurant!“

“If you are going for the all you can eat sushi I think it is a fair deal! $27 and the menu is huge! Go hungry! The sushi was tasty and came pretty quickly. I would stick only to the sushi though! The appetizers tasted frozen and the noodle soup had no flavor. The only appetizer we liked was the sexy jalapeños but still just B grade! But the sushi was worth it! Tons of choices! The waiter was great and checked on us multiple times so we didn't feel bad about placing many orders! It is pretty crowded and noisy in there but a fun time!“

“An amazing, inviting environment to share delicious dim sum and traditional Cantonese dishes! Every aspect of the experience, from the well crafted cocktails to the impeccable service is without equal in the area, while also providing a more relaxed, family style vibe to the experience. One of my main "go tos" when dining out!“

“I love this place. They have temporary ramp they can put out if you use a wheelchair. You might think this is a pain but what you should know is they City of Pittsburgh is really slow to give them a permit for a permanent ramp. They have been working on it for a long time now.“

“A good all around Asian restaurant with a varied menu that covers enough bases for everyone to find something they like: Sushi, a broad selection of the usual American Chinese dishes, Pad Thai, Thai Curries, …The prices were very fair for being located on Walnut Street in Shadyside. Noodles or fried rice were in the $13 -$16 range and 75% of the other entrees in the $16 - $20 range. Regular sushi rolls were priced between $6 - $9 and most Special Rolls were $15 - $17.We enjoyed the sushi which was comparatively good for the city in an energetic, above average atmosphere for this type of restaurant. Nice, sturdy take home bags were a plus.“

“The inside is nice and warm and has a great overall relaxing atmosphere. The staff is always so nice and so fast! I was trying to kill some time here before work one day and was expecting lunch to take at least an hour but my sushi and drinks were out in less than eight minutes. The sushi is great and fresh every time I get it I love this place“

“While I will say the food here is always delicious and the service is always pretty decent, I will say if you want the correct food make sure you get takeout and make sure you place it online where there can be no confusion about what you ordered, because if you order eat-in, there is no guarantee you will get what you actually ordered. I ordered kungpao chicken and got Szechuan chicken because that’s what my husband ordered (not sure if our waiter forgot what I ordered and punched the wrong thing in or what happened there) and they forgot his soup that he ordered and almost charged us for his egg roll as well (we had the lunch specials which come with either or) but thankfully corrected our bill after bringing it up.“

“Deep in the heart of Japan lies a tranquil yet deliciously yummy food establishment called Ichiban. This hibachi restaurant was delectable. The food portions are huge, staff was attentive. The cooking included all that you expect from a fine Japanese meal. It is the perfect place to fuel up before you banish your enemies and restore honor to your family. Can't wait to come back.“

“Nice fast casual spot for a quick, healthy meal. The additional ingredients I got were all fresh, cucumber, and spring mix greens. The salmon sashimi was good. I made my base with steamed white rice. You get a lot of rice; I couldn't finish it. I will look for this chain in other cities for a quick, GF, allergy meal.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options, they have an area for i gredients like Chipolte to add to meals. Depending on the allergy, it could be safe for you.Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, electric door button and small ramp/slope to get through door from side walk.“

“While the food at this restaurant is delicious, the serving order could be better. They serve fried rice first, which fills you up before trying other dishes. The staff could also use more training as they seemed inattentive. Overall ambiance is good.“

“This is a really awesome location and interesting fusion restaurant-night club in Pittsburgh. The DJ was really awesome, the space was open and welcoming, the facilities were very clean, and the overall experience was good! The drinks were club-priced, but that’s to be expected. I will be back!Parking: Unsure what the proper parking is.Kid-friendliness: 21+ only at nightWheelchair accessibility: Actually wheelchair-accessible, which is rare in Pittsburgh.“
“This was a nice very reasonably priced small sushi establishment. Parking however was a nightmare, so if possible walk to this location. The staff was very friendly and gave me a good recommendation. I had the Eye of the Tiger Roll and it was great. It was spicy but I like it that way and in my personal opinion if you’re not crying a little bit then it’s not spicy enough. Haha. Hopefully this helped with your selection. Overall, I would definitely recommend to come here for lunch.“
