“We ate here on a Saturday evening, with a reservation for two at 7.30pm. When we arrived the restaurant was quite full and we had to wait a little while before being seated. At that point, the service was very strong. We tried several dishes, including the salad, miso soup, sashimi plate, nigiri plate, and some hand rolls (mushroom, eel, scallop). We tried the tiramisu, chocolate pudding, and crème caramel for dessert. All in all, the food was tasty, the ambiance was relaxing and pleasant, and service was good. We had a very nice evening.“

“I stopped by yesterday to grab a quick lunch for me and a friend. It's a small spot with not a lot of seating (I counted 10 seats) that does a brisk takeout business. I ordered three specialty rolls for me and a friend and the food came out fairly quickly. The sushi itself was pretty good and was about $41 for three specialty rolls before tip. I would definitely come back and order again!“

“Our first experience at KIKU was highly memorable and a truly delightful evening! 5/5 stars all around! ⭐️ We made a reservation for 8 people which they easily accommodated, and the pacing of the many courses and dishes we all sampled was timely and thoughtful. We also requested a staff member who spoke Japanese because we are in a beginner’s language club trying to improve our Japanese and conversation skills. Yasuko B. was absolutely wonderful!! So patient, kind, and helpful in speaking with us and making it an extremely positive experience. She took great care of our table and made me feel welcome to try speaking in Japanese even though I am a beginner without a lot of confidence. I left feeling very inspired and motivated to continue seeking out experiences like this and hopefully meeting more kind people like Yasuko. All of the food was exceptional, and I especially loved the torikatsu, korokke, iidako, and beef tataki. The drink I ordered, Jade East, was hands down one of my favorite drinks I’ve ever tried. Also, the ube mochi was delicious! Overall, we loved everything about KIKU and we are already looking forward to our next visit. ありがとう ございました !“

“This little gem is very popular and for good reason. Their sushi is delicious, and the service is fast and friendly. The environment is seemingly low key, but it's always a good sign to see the restaurant very popular among locals who could easily go a greater distance for a larger restaurant. “The sushi was amazing. I've tried a ton of sushi places around Pittsburgh PA and this just barely loses the 1st place spot. This is like a 9.8 while the first is 9.9.The salmon sashimi melted in my mouth. It was tender and cut perfectly. A tiny bit of soy or salt and it is divine. I've never had octopus sashimi that was so tender and tasty. Was not rubbery at all.The spicy tuna roll had a little kick too it, and was very good. but that is from me that can barely eat spicy food. FYI jalapenos are pretty spicy too me.The eel sushi was out of this world. The shrimp sushi was prepared delicately so that it was super tender and had that nice fresh taste of shrimp.I got the P5 Sushi & Sashimi (for 2) and let the chief know what I was allergic too and he prepared a beautiful and amazingly tasty assortment for me. Was worth every penny. The miso soup was good. The custard buns were very good. I was not hopeful with that too be honest but they had good flavor and good texture. They were a nice subtle sweetness at the end of the meal.I didn't try and of their bubble tea but if it is like the rest of what I tried I'm sure it is great. Will update once I go back to try those.I highly recommend this place to anyone that loves sushi. Will have to make a TikTok on this place next time I go. It is too good. More people need to know of this treasure.“

“Read the mini bio/mission statement of young Luke Wholey at the front of the restaurant; so charming and somehow makes you feel personally connected. The food we ordered was cooked very well with great freshness, flavor and seasoning. The fish and oysters were excellent. We had the unexpected opportunity to meet and speak with R. Wholey who was very generous with his time in answering questions about the history of the family business. What a treat!Personally observed LW with a broom in hand and doing a quick clean of the stairs then also acting as greeter and host as guests came in. It was our first visit, hopefully not the last, and I hope the restaurant continues to have success and longevity much like the related Wholey's fish market and grocery store down the block.“

“I’m very rarely downtown at lunch time, but every time I am, I look forward to eating at this place. A friend introduced me to this restaurant years ago and I’m so glad they are still around. It’s counter service and they only take cash (and FYI, they don’t accept the juror discount vouchers other restaurants in this food court do). Service is brisk and professional. My food was ready in just a few minutes.I always get the kyu-don, and it is DELICIOUS every time. It’s a pretty generous portion of beef, egg, and rice. I like it with the oil added on top to give it a mild spice. I’ve been tempted to try some of the other things on the menu — they all sound good — but the kyu-don is so good I just can’t not have it.I’ll be looking forward to coming back the next time I’m downtown!“

“We got back from Japan a week ago and were missing the amazing food. Thankfully, my husband found Yukiyama. Wow! It was super authentic and we loved it. We ordered way too much food not thinking the portions would be Americanized. No matter. I'm happy to have leftovers for lunch this week. We loved the gyoza (dumplings). They were so soft, delicate and flavorful. They didn't need the sauce but the sauce was terrific. The pictures of their sushi looked good so I wanted to try it. The tuna roll was delicious and only $6. My husband loved his chashu (pork that tastes just like bacon) ramen. There were tons of noodles, huge pieces of pork and mushrooms. He really enjoyed it and was in the mood for ramen since we loved it so much in Japan. I got the chicken katsu (basically a cut up fried chicken cutlet or breast). It was so crispy, tender and flavorful. The portion was giant. It came with white rice, miso soup and the sweet and delicious katsu sauce that I love. We wi definitely be back to try other things when we come back out to Squirrel Hill. The man who brought out the food was so sweet. We miss Japan and found an amazing new spot.“
