“Update 2+ years later.. more words. Quality is just as good as our first time here. The fried chicken is maybe the greatest on the planet. Crispy outside, juicy inside like something that you'd see in an advertisement - but you actually get it. I had the steak, tenders, broccoli casserole and mashed. I didn't need all that food but I couldn't stop eating. Heather is a freaking machine behind the bar and the staff is a well oiled machine. Will definitely be back sooner rather than later this time. “Went on a busy Friday night but hostess was able to accommodate myself and two daughters. I was in a rush and was pleasantly surprised by the speed of service by the wait staff and kitchen. Everyone was pleasant, food was excellent (kids had burgers and fries and I had the chicken sandwich). Had a long drive home and we arrived at 7:15 and left by 7:50 with full bellies, fun atmosphere, great staff… which was ideal! Highly recommended!“

“We just celebrated our Dover Area High School graduate this past Saturday (5/31/25) at the Roosevelt Tavern, and everything—from the food to the atmosphere to the service—was absolutely FANTASTIC.

What made the day even more meaningful is the personal connection we have with this place. The father of my children, Edward “Peewee” Green, was a chef here many years ago under the previous owner, Bob Schimmel. Sadly, he passed away in November of 2012. Though my kids were only 4 and 5 years old at the time, many patrons still fondly remember him and speak so highly of his time at the Roosevelt.

What we didn’t expect—what truly left us speechless—was the incredible gesture from the current owner. Unbeknownst to us, he had held onto one of Peewee’s old chef coats for the past 15 years, and he gifted it to our graduate during the celebration. That thoughtful, deeply touching act gave our kids a priceless piece of their father’s legacy—a physical connection to a man they’ve heard so much about, but lost too soon.

We are forever grateful for that moment. It meant the world to me and to our family. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.“

“About a year ago, I went to John Wright Restaurant for Sunday brunch with a group of friends. I didn’t know what to expect, but the moment I arrived, I was struck by the beautiful waterfront scenery and the stunning, rustic building. Inside, that old-world charm blends perfectly with an upscale dining vibe, giving the place a truly special and unique energy. The brunch was absolutely delicious—so many options, including my personal favorite, eggs Benedict. Fast forward to last night: I stopped in for happy hour with a friend, and we grabbed seats at the bar. It was surprisingly comfortable and not overcrowded at all. The two bartenders were fantastic—warm, funny, and attentive. And the cocktails… OH MY GOSH. Just try them. You’ll thank me later! We ordered the calamari and crab risotto small plates, and they were so good that we immediately ordered a second round of the exact same thing. From a relaxed Sunday brunch, to after-work apps and cocktails, to a special dinner out—John Wright Restaurant gets a solid 10/10 from me. 🍽️“

Seriously, she knew the menu and even told us they would make anything we wanted whether or not it was on the menu. It's out of cans or frozen for sure which we very much anticipated I guess. I got the country fried steak with 2 eggs, and my husband got two egg with peaches and corned beef hash. Both my steak and his hash were a bit reminiscent of dog food looks wise. Neither had good color, crisp or appropriate type of heat applied that would make you think they were cooked at the appropriate temp for the right time. Kind of just mooshy and lifeless. Also, hubs isn't feeling so hot digestive wise and reading past reviews, that looks to be a thing here? UPDATE: Now I too have intestinal issues and hour after eating here. Great. Thanks guys! ugh. It is what it is, but the prices were steep for a side of diarrhea to go along with that nude colored food, is all Im saying. Also, the blond curly haired woman who seems like a "manager" has some serious resting you know what face. Shes just outright rude too. Like she has a hard time playing well with others. When we'd watch her make eye contact with someone she would fake smile, then immediately roll her eyes behind their back when they turned away. To everyone, no matter the circumstances. Once I started watching, I saw who she was very clearly. I cannot be the only one who's seen this behavior and it's one of the few reasons we won't be back.“

“My family and I love coming to J&B's! We live in MD which is about a 45 minute drive for us and we literally come to PA just to eat here. My husband and I actually found this place a few years ago when going to the Amish market and wanted a good breakfast spot. We have never been disappointed with the food and the service is always amazing! Highly reccomend if you're looking for a place that has great food, services and is reasonably priced.“

“We went on 2/8/25. Staying at the Hampton inn for a dance comp. Our waiter, unfortunately l, didn’t catch his name was absolutely AMAZING! More people kept getting added to our party, he, without hesitation, added more tables and chairs. He took our orders and separated the checks without us even asking. “Arrived in town for a short stay from Florida. The minute we arrived we were greeted by professional and young college kids at the hostess stand. We waited for 10 minutes while our table was assigned. Perfect table on the terrace facing the 18th hole. Sarah our hostess from Penn state was a joy to get to know. We all ordered from the huge menu selection and couldnt decide what to order. We saw The table next to us and the presentation looked amazing. We finally ordered steaks and salmon as our meal with delicious drinks. Perfect Saturday night at a great venue in York Pa. Keep up the great work Shaun Conway and your team. We will be back. “It's an old school feel type restaurant mostly older folks. The waitress and other people working were very nice they checked on me consistently. The interior of the restaurant is very very bland. Other than that the food came out in about 8 minutes and it was great the pancakes were nice and big the bacon was cooked perfect and she kept filling up my coffee.“

“I will admit, I had low expectations but this place surprised me. Chicken tenders are breaded in-house, and were crispy and seasoned well. Pizza was well sauced, and tasted great. Service was promt and attentive. I will be back to try some other menu items.

“It's a great place sort of out the way. Great seafood, drinks, and Maryland crabs . I had a broiled flounder stuffed with crab meat. It was fantastic. The wife had seafood Neptune. Also, it's very good. The hardshell crabs looked wonderful.“

You are allowed to smoke in the bar, so if cigarettes bother you, it's probably not the place to go for you. You can take your drinks into the bowling alley and play a few games while you drink! “This restaurant is Excellent in Every category! I have Never had a bad meal at this restaurant. The food is just as great as the view overlooking the golf course. There is plenty of seating, a large game room and many options! The bathrooms are clean and the waiters and waitresses are excellent! Honestly, I don’t know how anyone could knock this place. In my book it is Top Notch on all levels!“
