“We had never been here, but The Down Home was recommended to us a while back. Our party of five stopped in for the first half of an Alexis Wax concert/fundraiser for Erwin. The venue is quaint, but there are plenty of smaller booths and tables for four (we grabbed a spare chair to accommodate us), and a bar selling beer and wine, water is there for free. Food is also available, and everything is posted on their website. The sound was good, we all enjoyed our time, and we look forward to returning when we can stay longer. Definitely recommend The Down Home for live music in Johnson City.“

“Their sign is very enticing & I'll always choose a mom & pop over a chain restaurant so I accompanied a couple coworkers for lunch. The woman taking orders was abrupt, but not rude. I opted for the lunch special: chuckwagon sandwich, onion rings & drink for $6.99. Our food was ready sooner than expected with a bit of a crowd in the restaurant. The chuckwagon sandwich was tasty with lettuce, tomato & the perfect amount of mayo. Onion rings were actual onions with a smooth, crunchy batter & were still piping hot when I received them. Although not the best lunch I've had working in this area, I would definitely return & would recommend this restaurant for a tasty, no-frills meal.“

I can’t explain the food. You can’t even start to understand how good it is from reading the menu. You just have to come and experience it. I think the beef tartare was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. This is like a Michelin star restaurant hidden in Johnson City.

“We had attended a concert at ETSU and looked for a place for late eats. Well this Smokey Bones location was busy and we found this location to be fabulous. All our food was excellent. The three pretzel app was so good. I had a side salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. The barbecue sandwich with sweet potato frys was deliscious. The grilled cheese with barbecue was amazingly good with a side of deliscious Mac and cheese. All the food was spot on. The real beauty of our late night meal was definitely Simone. “Well now, I reckon I oughta begin by sayin’ that when a man’s been drivin’ clear across this grand nation with three rambunctious young’uns in the back hollerin’ over who touched whose elbow, and a wife growlin’ about the gas station beans in Arkansas, a good taco can feel like salvation in tortilla form. That’s precisely the brand of miracle we found at a little joint by the name of White Duck Taco Shop.

Now don’t let the name fool you — ain’t no duck with an apron waddlin’ around servin’ you, though I admit I wouldn’t’ve minded that one bit. What is there is a menu that reads like a travelogue written by a hungry pirate. Chicken tikka masala tacos? Shrimp po’boy? Steak-and-cheese that’d make a Philly boy cry into his soft pretzel? Lord have mercy, even the duck taco had me questionin’ the moral uprightness of poultry.

My wife, who has developed a sort of holy reverence for legumes, declared — between bites and narrowed eyes — that the beans were transcendent. And let me tell you, when a woman uses that word for food, you better believe angels are somewhere singin’.

It’s the kind of place where kids get quiet — not from threat or bribe — but from sheer chew-induced bliss. A rare and blessed silence. For that alone, I’d’ve given ‘em a medal.

So if you find yourself somewhere between Where-the-Hell-Are-We and the Eastern Seaboard, do yourself the decency of stopping at White Duck Taco. It’s a fine respite for the weary traveler, the picky child, and the wife who’s done enough car parenting to deserve beans that move the soul.“

“I had an awesome visit to Waffle House yesterday. I really enjoyed the whole experience. I ordered the steak bowl with shredded hash browns, steak and eggs with an extra hard fried egg on top. It turned out to be exactly what I was craving. Thanks Waffle House Management and Team.

“I honestly thought they had shut down. The menu has changed and prices went up. The food was good. I was surprised they were out of crab leg crackers. They needed more staff waiting tables. Our server was struggling because she was so busy. I felt so bad for her but she did great.“
