Oh my, this place was phenomenal. Asked a friend who lives here where to go for good Tex-Mex because I hadn't been to Austin area since I moved away 25 years ago. She did not steer me wrong. Nor did our server Juanita. She took amazing care of us and was friendly and chatted with us. Highly recommend the fajitas, the picy mezcalitas, and the Tejas ceviche. Based on the reviews, Mama Betty's Tex-Mex on Parmer Lane offers fantastic food and excellent service. The chicken tortilla soup, floutas, enchiladas, queso, tacos a la betty, crispy beef tacos, and crispy tacos are all amazing. The food is packed with flavor, and the salsa dip is dangerously addictive. The queso is really good, and the happy hour menu, including the Mama-Rita, is a solid choice. The back patio, especially with live music, is a total vibe, though the restaurant can be way too loud inside for some. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed with a good variety of music.
The service is a standout feature. Servers are wonderful, warm, attentive, and incredibly personable. One server, in particular, completely elevated the entire experience by making guests feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. The waitstaff is friendly and does a great job with larger groups. While carry-out orders can be pure chaos with an hour wait, the staff remains super kind and helpful. The restaurant clearly cares about its customers. The only issue mentioned is that not everyone likes the white salsa brought out with the chips.
