“Hands down, one of the best bar services I have ever experienced. Really friendly staff with great atmosphere. Not overly noisy. You can also order food from next door pizza place in the bar. Beer collection is good and the food menu is also decent. I just wish they would take care of wobbly tables!Highly recommend it and will definitely go back again!“

“Stopped in for steak night not knowing it was only served on Tuesday and Thursday. Seated ourselves and the waitress came right over. She was courteous and professional. Nice and casual, good for enjoying the game or just to relax and conversate. Had the orange blossom cocktail and it was really good! Not too sweet, just the right amount of fizz and it smelled amazing. Plan on returning to try the steak since it's so highly rated.“

“Our book club had a late St. Patrick's luncheon here. Excellent selection of beers on tap. The Black and Tan was perfect. Lots of other beverage choices hard and soft. I had the Irish breakfast which was filling and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their choices which were very varied. Service was excellent. Lots of TV Screens but at the time we were there they were muted and no one seemed to be watching.“

“A classic Irish bar with beer cocktails and pizza, just like in the old country. Decent patio seating, welcoming atmosphere, ok drinks. I was sad to find no leprechauns in the whole place, but I just didn't look hard enough. Dart boards are a big plus. Parking is shared with neighboring businesses, and if it wasn't Wednesday night like when I tried it, I bet parking is a pain in the behind. Uber and Lyft are your friends, so are whiskey shots and your nearest bar patrons. This has been a commonly picked spot to meet up with friends for years in my life, and has a nice Houston relaxed vibe. The run-down area is classic Houston too, it looks and feels better at night and with a good buzz going.“

“This is a your quintessential neighborhood bar - and fills a niche that the closest bars around it don't meet. You may get fancier cocktails and food at Toasted Coconut or more of a scene at Nonno's, or more of a vibe at 93 Til, but sometimes you just need a good ole dive bar to chill with large groups of friends. They have a huge space with both indoor and large patio area. They have jumbo, high quality screens everywhere, so it's always a great atmosphere during game times and sporting events. They constant host events so definitely follow them on socials to keep up with their calendar - they have a great trivia scene, live music at times, and all sorts of food events like steak night and crawfish. Although a bit more of a dive, don't sleep on their cocktails as they have a pretty expansive menu you wouldn't expect at an establishment like this. They pour a good Guinness draft, and have a variety of local beers and imports. The bartenders are all extremely hardworking and friendly. Food-wise, they have a limited menu that includes basic bar snacks like pretzels and frozen pizza (I swear this has to be Red Baron). But the bonus is that they typically allow outside food, so can order delivery or bring whatever you want to eat with you. The tamale guy also makes fairly regular rounds at Penny Whistle, especially on trivia nights. There's been a lot of talk what constitutes third spaces, and in this part of Montrose, this would be one of mine. If you're ever in the neighborhood drop by Penny Whistle and come and say hi!“
