“First thing we noticed when we walked in it was the cleanliness. Second thing we noticed was the kind service. Third thing we noticed was the food was absolutely scrumptious and had its own twist on flavor and presentation hard to do when there's a Mexican restaurant on every corner.
We went back for seconds and we definitely will be going as often as possible even though we live across town we discovered this little gem by accident but then again there are no accidents!

“I found Maria's Cafe via Google Search and I'm a sucker for family owned hole-in-the-wall places that serve authentic no frills cuisine. Maria's does not disappoint. You will find tacos of every kind, including familiar ones and many others that I haven't seen in other places. I tried the Taco Mando Loco #1 on a corn tortilla which was served piping hot with a chilli sauce/salsa on the table. Word of caution for those who aren't accustomed to higher spice levels, this one has a kick to it, and that's a good thing.

For the 2nd order I was curious to know what they have for veggie tacos. When I asked, I was promptly handed a green sheet with a handwritten menu with over 20 different veggie tacos! I ordered Jeff's Vegan and it was awesome.

The location is about 2 miles from the city center so it's a short cab ride away but it's worth the trip. You'll get home made food that won't burn a hole in your wallet.

“Last night, I went to Carriqui with a party of two. We ordered Tuna Tostadas, Guacamole, Chicken Tortilla Soup, Birria, Flan, Tres Leches, and Margaritas.

Tuna Tostadas – Lights out! Sprinkle some lemon on top, take a bite, and it’s just sooo good. The flavors are perfectly balanced. Easily a must-order.
Birria – As someone who loves heavily seasoned food, I didn’t get a strong flavor kick from it, but the lamb was cooked beautifully. I’m glad I tried it!
Tres Leches – The star of the night. Hands down the best Tres Leches I’ve ever had. I’ve only tasted this dessert in Charlotte, NC before, but this one? Perfect. I devoured the whole thing.
Guacamole – So fresh, great texture.
Flan – Good, but Tres Leches stole the show. (I’m also not a huge caramel fan, so I’m a little biased.)
Chicken Tortilla Soup – This one didn’t do it for me.
Margaritas – I really enjoyed these, they are so refreshing.

Beyond the food, the ambiance was amazing. We sat outside, and everything—the music, weather, lighting—was chef’s kiss.

Holy enchiladas! Order the Suizas enchiladas! I thought about them for about 24 hours afterwards. Our entire experience was fantastic. Lauryn our server was one of the nicest and most patient people ever! The atmosphere is fantastic. And all of the food was delicious!! Wish we lived closer so we could go more often!“

“My family came from Ohio in 1950. We bought chalupas and little tacos and ate in Breckenridge park. I remember they were on paper plate and put in brown paper sacks. The chalupas were good because of the thick tortilla. Do you still make these.“

“Oh man! Lupe Tortilla was great! No waiting and our server Matthew took very good care of us 1st timers. My partner wanted shredded beef tacos and Matthew said we wouldn’t find them on the menu but that he could get them for us. I had the oh so tender fajitas with a molcajete filled with all the fixing…guacamole, cheese & diced tomatoes. Along with some rice and beans. Of course I had to have a prickly pear margarita. Great Thursday dinner outing for sure!“

“Can not say enough about our experience at Nichas Mexican Comida on West Ave. They accommodated our party of 34 at the last minute. We were on a school trip from Kimball,Nebraska and wanted authentic Mexican food and it did not disappoint. Jose and Marisol took excellent care of us and the food was amazing. “Visiting San Antonio from Chicago and this place was highly recommended by family members, so we stopped in for breakfast. We had a party of 10 and they tended to us quickly. The service was top notch and the food was great. The tortillas (both flour & corn) are handmade. I highly recommend the barbacoa platter and the tripa tacos. Would definitely come back!

My only suggestion would be to put a note in the menu as i went up to pay they're was a sign taking about price increases to the menu. I did not mind being it is good food but some would probably want to know that while dining in of their on a specific budget.

“After a long day we chose this Mexican restaurant for dinner. Had never been there before. We were just passing through. Service was very good. I had enchiladas and so did my husband. We just had different sauces. They were both excellent. The refried beans were very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place . I think they have a drive thru too. Only downside is that they don’t serve alcohol.
