“Unforgettable! About 6 weeks ago, I sent an email to the Speakeasy Cigar Lounge in Lakeway to see if someone there might help me pull off a cool surprise for my man’s birthday. I got the idea that Jason should have his own signature cocktail. I had the perfect name for it and a list of drinks he likes, but I’m no mixologist, so I needed help to pull this off. Sonya McKinney, the manager replied to my request saying she was all in. And boy was she! From her creative expertise, the “Liberty Risk” cocktail was born. Jason is a retired Navy fighter pilot with an ornery streak a mile wide. Whenever the aircraft carrier came into port, the crew was at liberty to enjoy time in town, unless of course, they’d done a mischief and found themselves on liberty risk, and thus restricted to the ship. Jason wasn’t completely unfamiliar with liberty risk. “Liberty Risk” became the name of his boat, his most prized possession, making it also the perfect name for his signature cocktail. Sonya didn’t just create an awesome cocktail, she hung a professionally made banner above the bar introducing the drink, wrote and laminated the backstory of the drink, and bought a special Navy veteran glass in which to present the drink, complete with real Navy wings that she attached to a golden cocktail skewer to garnish the drink! She also arranged for the musician who was playing that night to lead the whole bar in singing Happy Birthday to him. Thanks to Sonya, the whole experience was unparalleled and it’s a special memory Jason and I will always cherish.“

“Twin Creeks is an old-school roadside dive bar just off FM 2469 in North Austin. Opening hours are around 3pm to midnight each night. They have an indoor bar and outdoor seating next to a small creek with clear water and small fish. There is an indoor and outdoor stage and pool table as well. Bartender was very friendly when we popped in for a round of beers. Interesting mix of patrons came in during the afternoon hour we were there, most wanting to enjoy the great mid spring time weather outside. Just seemed like a really good, local watering hole in North Austin, a place I'd be glad to visit regularly if we lived in the area.“

“Margarita was okay but let's talk about the food😋 Talk about made in Mexico!!! No TexMex amalgamation here. It's the team deal. The puerc pibil (pork, onion, spices wrapped in a banana leaf and tied with a corn husk string) is to die for. The fresh oregano stands out. the rice is okay but the black beans were the best that I've had this side of Miami. I'm gonna have to go back. Happy, happy, happy“

Lots of games including pool, ping pong, Jenga, foosball and probably others.There's a bar but also tables to kinda hang out in, and a juke box that you can choose all kinds of music from. I was really happy with the tunes they picked out - an eclectic mix that was nice for all people in our party (all ages).They also had a nice selection of taps of beer and normal well drinks from the bar. I was from out of town and just looking for a cool place to hang and have a few drinks. This place executed that perfectly. Would definitely recommend. :)“

“It doesn’t get anymore “Texas” than Gary P. Nunn performing at Poodie’s Roadhouse. This experience was everything I wanted it to be. Great music cold beer friendly people even one of the best burgers you will ever have all in a real deal Texas Roadhouse! If we lived closer we’d be there every week! I can’t say enough good things! This was truly one of the best musical experiences I’ve ever been to! Great show! Poodie’s Roadhouse provided a great Texas experience. Special thanks to owner Sharon Burke for making our night so special! Get there in time to catch a beautiful sunset . Come hungry cause the burgers and other food is great! All of the regulars we talked to were friendly and welcoming. Put this on your list of must visits!“

“I have nothing but praise for Jen and Jaime’s amazing restaurant. We had family and friends together for a large-table celebration, and everyone loved the queso and artichoke dip appetizers. The prime rib was incredible, and the lemonade was my personal favorite. I’m always a fan of their Smash Burger, too.

A real shout-out to the staff who show up and make such a difference in even a simple mealtime, let alone a celebration. Attentive, charming, and proactive, they took care of our large group throughout the meal.

I’m especially grateful for family-owned businesses. They are such a pillar of community and hospitality, and there is something really special about a family dedicated to serving great food and taking care of the people who walk through their doors.

“Maudies has been a local Austin restaurant for as long as I can remember. The food can be a little inconsistent depending on what you order. I love their tortilla soup, though every now and then it’s a bit watery. Other than that, everything is usually pretty good. The Mexican martinis are on point, and I really like the location off of 360.“
