Ellis County BBQ Reviews
The food here is always great, but today, on Christmas Eve, they went above and beyond! We realized last minute that we didn’t have enough meat for our family gathering. Even though they were closed and working a catering event, they answered the phone and absolutely saved the day. That kind of service is rare. Thank you, Ellis County BBQ! Merry Christmas🎄
Great atmosphere and best chicken fried steak I’ve had since I moved from Texas. Large portions and those onion strings YUMMM Owner and staff are super friendly too! Highly recommend!!
Tonight the service was horrid!!! Wasn’t busy. Customers waiting for checks. Drinks empty with no refills offered. It’s BBQ, need extra napkins! Server NEVER came back by. People waiting far too long for meals. I had to go find the server in the kitchen and let him know he was a slacker! I don’t eat out much, so a bad experience sticks with me! thanks to Sarah for filling the gap, she was the bar tender and didn’t have to! I love the food!!!!

Ellis County BBQ provides a mixed experience with some excellent food and friendly service, but also some inconsistencies. The restaurant is well-known for its barbecue sauce and ribs, which many customers consider some of the best in the area. The brisket burger has been praised as "that damn good," with perfectly crispy fries that are fried long enough. The sliced brisket is tender with good flavor, though some find it a little dry without a fat cap, which is seen as an important part of authentic Texas BBQ. Sides like coleslaw and potato salad are generally good, with the coleslaw being fresh and the potato salad hearty, though some feel it could have more potatoes. The sliced sausage and brisket in the two-meat plate are generous portions, often more than at other places like Dickies BBQ. Customers appreciate the restaurant’s outstanding takeout service, with food arriving hot and accurate, though takeout orders sometimes miss sides, so checking before leaving is advised. The restaurant has a nice bar with seating and a family-friendly vibe, decorated with sports and military themes, and plenty of screens for watching games. The staff, including attentive servers, receive praise for their politeness and professionalism, making the overall experience enjoyable.
