The family who bought the business from Mr. Kenner in Feb 2025 is super kind, accommodating and generous. The fruit kolache dough is so pillowy, and they have lots of really delicious flavors of filling. The sausage kolaches are equally good. “I have driven to the Hulen St. Unrefined location for 4 years to order my nephews’s special corn and gluten free vanilla cake with strawberry frosting for his birthday. My sister told me Cookies, Crust and Crumb bakery was now owned by Unrefined and it was in Hurst and much closer for me. Ordering was a breeze and the cake was the best one we’ve had. They said they quoted me a much lower price than normal and would honor that price. I wear hearing aids so didn’t hear the price quoted and told her I was prepared to pay the correct price and she insisted I should only pay what she quoted. I was very pleased with the service and the cake got rave reviews from all who ate it even our server at our restaurant celebration raved about the cake. We should have picked up cards from the bakery to hand out! Great experience all around. Highly recommend.“

“My husband and I ordered two signature cakes from Sugar Bee Sweets this past weekend. We chose a 2-tier lemon cake with the blueberry filling for the wedding cake, and a 1-tier chocolate cake with caramel buttercream and toffee crunch (with extra toffee pieces!) for the groom's cake. THEY WERE AMAZING!! They were picture perfect and tasted fantastic! Also, the online ordering process was very easy and the young lady who helped us pick up our cakes was extremely friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this bakery for any occasion!“

This is the first donut shop that has served me a REAL apple fritter that's not just fritter but has plenty of apple in it. The fritters are also HUGE. They are pancake size. “The hubs and I stopped by for a bagel and coffee. We ended up ordering more lol. He had the bagel Sandwich and a muffin which was amazing! I ordered a caramel cold brew which was perfect, a bagel with cream cheese, and a blueberry muffin. All were fresh, warm and delicious. We miss the Italian wedding soup that Olive Garden use to have and they serve it here so we will be back to try that and their tomato basil soup!“

“I was very impressed with this donut shop! I've been looking for an alternative to fast food breakfast, and I was happy to see that this shop offered savory sandwiches. I tried the half-moon -- which comes with bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese on their kolache-style roll -- and it was absolutely delicious! More importantly, it sat well and didn't upset my stomach. I also bought a cinnamon roll and a mini apple fritter. The roll was so much bigger than I expected, but it was delicious. The apple fritter was the best I've personally had; I am normally not a fan of them, but the inside was soft while the top was almost caramelized. Both went great with the coffee I had brewed at home. My brother also had a breakfast sandwich (cheese and bacon croissant) and a glazed donut. He loved both. The part I appreciated most, however, was the commitment to their health practices during this current crisis. They've installed high sneeze shields around the entire counter, and the cashier donned a fresh glove before handling my credit card. Due to all of this, we will definitely be back!“

Evidently Mindy Lu must use a similar technique. I was introduced to Mindy Lu here in Del Río at the 5 Points convenience store about 4 months ago when there was an ownership change. “It was empty when I went around 9a on a Sunday, so there was no wait. The lady at the counter greeted me as soon as I walked in. The store was clean and smelled like a bakery. The items were arranged neatly and labeled. Someone told me about the donut shop so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm satisfied with that decision. It's a nice shop and the donuts taste much better than the commercial donut shops like Shipley..yuck!, and Dunkin...boring taste, and Krispy Kreme...way too sweet.“

“The Black Rose Donut cafe is more than a donut shop. They are open all day and serve burgers, fries, wings, and more. Not only is the food excellent, it is prices way below other places. I have easily paid more than twice as much for food of less quality. If you like good food, low prices, and supporting small businesses, you should definitely add them to the top of your list of places to try!“
