“I don’t usually write reviews, but Mandarin Court inspired me in the same way a flat tire inspires you to learn how to change one — out of necessity… except this time, it was a pleasant surprise necessity.

This was, without question, one of the most unexpectedly memorable Chinese food experiences I’ve had.

The General Tso’s chicken was impressively subtle and balanced — a culinary achievement, really, considering the dish is normally known for being overpowering. It had that comforting, reheated-in-the-best-way feel, like leftovers that somehow taste even better the next day. They even served it in the same container it was warmed in, which honestly made it feel cozy and unpretentious — like eating something straight from the kitchen before it even has time to cool down.

The fried rice was… unique. Not your standard heavy, greasy version — more like a time capsule of classic takeout flavors. It felt intentional. Retro, even. The fried beef? Minimalist. Deep-fried breading with just enough beef inside to keep you guessing. Calling it “fried beef” might undersell the artistry. “Breaded air sticks with beef rumors” still applies — but in that avant-garde, less-is-more kind of way.

Food aside, the aesthetics of the place give off strong “no-frills, all-focus-on-the-food” energy. The floors and simple interior lean lived-in rather than flashy, and the cool dining room temperature? Let’s call it invigorating. Like a bus stop in January — but you’re waiting for something worth it.

I went in thinking, “How bad could it be?” and left thinking, “Well… that was definitely an experience.”

Would I recommend it? If you appreciate character, commitment to simplicity, and a dining story you won’t forget — absolutely.”

“One of the reasons I chose Chef Donnella was because she was right around the corner from my venue at the Montclair golf and country club. When I called her to discuss a cake, she asked me what my design was going to be, and I said you are the professional please create something for me. We reviewed flavors and frosting, and I made my selections. A week before the wedding I needed an extra layer and then two weeks before the wedding. I wanted an extra layer and she quickly added that to my ticket. We left the Lego cake topper on the table where the cake was going to be placed, and when I entered my reception and saw that cake my jaw hit the ground. It was a stunning creation of great beauty. I had guests coming up to me all day and they said that was the most stunning wedding cake they had ever seen and they had all been to a lot of weddings. The cake was so intricate and the designs were perfect. The cake was melt in your mouth delicious, and the frosting was so great and it wasn’t super sickening Sweet, which was just perfect. From the moment I started working with her until she delivered and set the cake up it went so smoothly. I asked her to stop by and see me before she left in my hideout spot at the venue and she was gracious, kind, and so beautiful. I could not recommend her more for your special event because she will not let you down. She is a genius, a wonderful Baker,so creative and excellent to work with.”

“We come here probably too often as we live pretty close and it's a quick meal on busy nights. The people are always really nice. My 3 year old always comes with and has a handful of monster trucks each and every time. One of them went under the giant drink fridge. He was devastated! “The outside rep who took my order this afternoon Kayley (not sure of the spelling) convinced me to try the new Strawberry Hibiscus frozen lemonade that I didn’t know existed. I love the regular frozen lemonade and ordered it with my meal but Kayley was so friendly and accommodating, she made the offer too attractive to resist and I ordered the extra drink and an extra jalepeno ranch sandwich to go with it. This location always has top notch service as a rule. Cayley deserves special recognition.”

We were sitting down and soon my toddler started to cry over who knows what...I tried everything to guess and calm her down but she wasn’t having it. I was ready to pack us up and leave so we didn’t continue to disturb everyone in there when one of the employees, Sunni, came over and sat at our table. She spoke so sweet and calm to my daughter who stopped crying and also generously brought her an apple juice and cake pop to stop the tears.
