“The service was really friendly and quick. The place is fun and kid friendly vibe like your typical Mexican restaurant. The food is where it fell short for us compared to other local spots. The salsa tasted like jar salsa and the queso also was basic. I give the birria tacos a 3/5! They were good but I’ve had better. The enchiladas were extremely bland and flavorless. The rice however was delicious!! The margaritas were also pretty decent. Their house hot sauce was bomb!!! Overall it was a good spot but there’s so many other great Mexican places in the area that I think raises the bar even higher.“

“We stopped by the other night and so glad we did! Everything was fresh and very tasty! It's the ONLY place I can find that makes Sope's and it was so good with the Chorizo Chicken! Everyone else tried the tacos: fish, shrimp, carne asada and Chorizo Chicken and they were really good and fresh as well! The chorizo rice and Chorizo beans were very tasty! My son had the Horchata to drink and my husband tried the pineapple mango and he liked it as well! We will definitely be back for tacos and my sopes again soon!“

“This shop deserves full marks: the service is very nice and always with a smile! The food was simply great, no matter what dish it was, everything was very authentic and tasty, and more than enough. The “San Diego” burrito was simply awesome!!! The daiquiries are also super delicious!!! Simply TOP!!!“

“I'll leave the same review for both locations since they are both EXCELLENT!One is on Caroline Street right downtown and the second is on William St (right across from Freddy Donuts which is also awesomeness!)Both spots are little hole-in-the-wall restaurants which are generally my favorite. They both have indoor seating, seasonal outdoor seating, and a full bar.ANY spot that serves Mexican fare has to start with chips and salsa on the table and they do! Solid salsa too!Now the soup: Tried the tortilla soup. DELICIOUS!The Tacos: You get TWO per order. I messed up the first visit and got WAY too many. They have a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I have not tried the corn option but the flour is big enough that two tacos will FILL you up!The Rice and Beans: I need to figure out how to make pinto beans the way they do. They serve a lot of their platters with a side of rice and beans. These are not smashed beans, these are delicious, homemade pintos. The beans and rice are seasoned perfectly and come out HOT!The Burritos: Seasoning is great! Like on POINT! Not the most gargantuan I have ever had but they are PACKED with fresh ingredients and the flavor is fantastic. The servers are attentive as well.We will be back for sure!“

“The service was outstanding and the ambiance was amazing. The food was good. The folks I was with said their food was cold and didn't send it back. Too bad for them. The most outstanding thing about this restaurant is the service and ambience.“

“My husband and I have been here a few times. We really like their Pony Burrito which is massive and can easily be eaten over two meals.Yesterday I tried the Rancho Quesadilla for the first time. It was quite good! The cheese sauce on top is fantastic, and the huge chunks of veggies and meat were phenomenal! My only suggestion would be to season the steak. My husband had a trio; enchilada, chile relleno, and burrito. My husband said his food was very tasty, and he would definitely get it again.Service was excellent. Our drinks were kept full, our food was quick, and staff was very friendly. We will definitely be back again.“
“Tacos the way tacos are supposed to be. Walk into the market and look to the right of the registers. There’s a large seating area where you can dine in. Have a seat and be patient someone will come to take your order. Tacos were amazing and the pupasas were huge and handmade as they should be. Everyone needs to come here!“

“Wasn't as good as I had been told. One of the servers was arguing with another server. She was swore at him as he walked away. While it was in Spanish, I understood. Guess they thought we didn't speak or understand Spanish. Did go grab a beer at the bar before leaving. The atmosphere was rocking there!Probably won't return for food.“

“Since this place opened up in the past month, hubs and I have eaten take-out from them several times a week, the food is so good and fresh. We'd never before had Garnachas, and are now completely addicted to them: they're like individually topped nachos with what seems to be curtido and ground beef and a sprinkle of cheese. We've tried quite a few other dishes from them now too, and every one has been a winner - pupusas, fajitas, the molocajete platter, the pollo en crema - mouth-wateringly delicious and guaranteed to keep us loyal patrons.“

“we were there with a big party (>20 people) and although they were a bit late to give us our table (about 30mins past the reservation time), it is quite understandable and their food and service more than made up for the wait.A great place with great food and great staff. no complain at all.“

“It was a bit quiet for a rainy Wed afternoon. But, the food and service were top notch. I'm not crazy about their cheese enchiladas anymore. I think they switched the cheese to mozzarella (?)... so I tried the blacked tuna tacos. Definitely a keeper, even though it was on their "Specials" menu. Will definitely keep it on my rotation for lunches.“

“Every time we drive down route one we notice busy El Gran Charro is. My husband and I planned to try this local treasure last Sunday we went in and were able to be seated right away. We looked at the menu and decided to try the Queso Flamado as a starter. Before QF was ready we were delivered chips, salsa and a white sauce that neither of us had had before. The cheese came and I'll admit, I sort of expected a flame or hot spices or sometime but it looked and tasted like queso Blanco with a minimally scorched side and bottom because it was served in a skillet. The salsa was not great. But the white sauce was something to write home about delicious somehow sweet somehow savory and just spicy enough to give you a kick we loved it. Jeff ordered à la cart three separate types of tacos. He thought they were good. I ordered a shrimp appetizer as my meal with a side of corn tortillas and a little extra white sauce. We were not wowed by our meals but also the food was not bad. My dish unfortunately was so spicy I could not eat it in the restaurant. My husband ate his dish and took a bite of mine. He agreed the spices were abnormally hot and somewhat unexpected. The rest of my dinner was transferred into a to go container draining off the vinegar and spices and it was very good when I ate it later at home with more white sauce . Clearly the white sauce was the star player. The restaurant was well decorated, clean and inviting the host and the seater were welcoming and polite. The cost of our orders was very reasonable. Sadly our particular waiter did not do a great job he wasn't very knowland did not come back to check on us however we did notice great service at other tables and assume that issue to be an individual problem and not an establishment problem. Overall, the value was good and I may give other things on the menu a try if I came in the restaurant in the future. Maybe a nice girls margarita night with tortilla chips and white sauce. No“

“This is a hidden gem in Fredericksburg, as the food was amazing. I got the mi casa sampler since it offered a bit of everything. The side of Yucca tasted fresh and homemade. They also offer a happy hour 3-6 and I even got myself an Pina colada. I highly recommend this place due to its high quality food and great prices!“

“We had an incredible experience at Rey Azteca Mexican restaurant during our Wednesday lunch visit. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. The queso was absolutely delicious, and the chips and salsa were beyond phenomenal - they really set the bar high for the meal. Opting for the fajitas for 2 chicken, we were impressed by the generous portions and the flavorful chicken. The flour tortillas were fresh and added the perfect touch to our meal. What amazed us most was the speed at which our food arrived, piping hot and ready to enjoy. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, we felt the prices were more than fair. As new transplants from Oklahoma, finding Rey Azteca was like discovering a hidden gem - it's exactly the Mexican cuisine we were craving. We're already planning our next visit and can't wait to bring the kids along to experience it too!“

“OVERALL: hidden gem with authentic and delicious food!! FOOD: we came across this restaurant because we were looking for latin food. We got 3 pupusas (revueltas which is a mixture of pork and cheese I believe, and loroco which is a plant and cheese) and the grilled shrimp platter. Great portions. I also had the horchata. It was non traditional in that I could taste a hot chocolate mixture but it was still good. SERVICE: you order and pay at the cashier then seat yourself. Plastic utensils are off to the side by the wall but you can request proper silverware. We were attended to quickly. VENUE: the restaurant is pretty big with ample seating for different group sizes. It's decorated with beautiful latin American arrangements. It's a mom and pop business it seems with more of a diner atmosphere which makes it homey.“

“Pretty typical Taco Bell. My Niece Dawn use to work there. Whenever I'm in town I stop by for something. Lately it's double decker taco supremes, they bring back memories of my Aunt. Really good and wish it was a permanent menu item.“

“Love this place. Always cheap and good. Where else in the area can you leave for $50 with dinner and drinks for two? Two times we have had the sweetest server too. I tried to catch her name the last time we were in. Sounded like "sigh-el" (sorry for butchering the name). Younger girl with glasses. Thank you Pancho Villa and to our great server!“
