“March 2025 | Spring Menu | My friend had the burger. It was his second time at Amber Ox, two different seasons, same protein. He loved it. He compared it to the fall menu burger and was so impressed that it was done this way. It was my birthday. I got the pork chop dish. Although, I love your menus, this is absolutely my favorite. I will be back before the end of the season for another taste. The staff were wonderful and attentive as always. You made my birthday dinner. Thank you so much.“

“We made a late dinner reservation for my family. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and seated immediately. We had a nice table in their dining room and our Waitress Samantha took our order quickly. We stared with the fried oysters which were absolutely delicious, then I had the Blue Cheese Burger, my sister had the turkey burger and my mom had the shrimp and chicken jambalaya. The kids had the chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. Everything was delicious and I loved my burger. I am not a huge blue cheese fan but that burger was amazing. Everything was made fresh and the service was excellent. I will definitely be back.“

“The food is excellent and our server Matthew was the best! He was personable, excellent communicator, knowledgeable, attentive and we enjoyed getting to know him. Everything we ate was delicious. Center Street Grill is a hidden gem in Williamsburg that we stumbled on thanks to a post on Neighbor to Neighbor. When I read the post I had to check out and I am so glad my husband and our good friend did. We were not disappointed and ready to go back! We will definitely add Center Street Grill to our go to place for date night and a hang out with friends!! I highly recommend!“

“We are from Tennessee. I spent 6 years living on the coast of SC and moved back several years ago to my hometown (and knew not to order seafood when in a landlocked state).I took my family to Berret’s and my oldest son who loves seafood is now ruined from eating it back home because of his newly acquired taste of fresh seafood that he got from this establishment. The food was amazing and the service was spectacular.“

“I ordered the pork schnitzel. It was delicious - crispy outside and moust and tasty inside. Liked the red canbage. A little too much garlic on the spaetzle but still delicious. I had one of the house drinks and it was very smooth and had a nice combo of flavors.“

“Very nice place, historical, ground are lovely..... food service was a little slow but not unbearable, cocktails were delicious (and also a little pricey), the food was expensive for what we ordered, but it was tasty overall. They didn't have a dessert with chocolate, so that was disappointing to some in our party.“

“Was pretty upset we didn’t get to go there Fourth of July weekend. But it’s Pretty cool they shut down and take the holiday off though. More small businesses should do that when they can. We have Been before and the steak and cheese are always killer. Hopefully I get to go back soon“
“Derrick our waiter was exceptional! My daughter and I recently went to a luncheon program in the Regency Room. Other years there has been a buffet, but this time it was a set plate affair. Flank steak was on the menu! My daughter is vegetarian! I quietly inquired of Derrick if a vegetarian plate was possible? As he brought everyone at our table their meat meal, he set a vegetable meal in front of her! She was surprised and delighted! He saved the day!“

“We loved our dinner here tonight! Our waiter, George, made the meal more like an event. He shared tons of stories and stayed to talk with us well after the dinner was over. The food was amazing but the service was even better!! Thank you George!!“

“We had a wonderful dining experience from the welcoming greeters at the door to our wonderful server. The food was amazing from pea soup to steak to dessert, and the punch bowl! The Pringle’s ginger beer drink was very good, too. My daughter loved the oysters. It was a wholesome experience with live music and authenticity in the details (even the silverware is made in Williamsburg). It was also a treat to eat somewhere where historical figures dined in colonial times, but also really an art form to serve a menu inspired by recipes from the 1700s (and everything tasted amazing and fresh). The service was pretty impeccable for the whole staff (lots of servers, greeters, and staff).“

“Aside from my welcome at hotel reception, eating at the Golden Horseshoe Grill was my first impression of Williamsburg—and it was lovely! Each person who worked there was very kind, and I got to interact with at least five of the restaurant staff. The pulled pork was delicious. I sat outside and got to enjoy the view. Good people and good food. Definitely recommend!“

“This French-Belgian brasserie, near Colonial Williamsburg's Merchant's Square, served the juiciest, most tender Steak Fritte I've enjoyed in a decade. Fresh truffle fries and mixed field greens made for appropriate sides. 10/10
Wine snobs will rejoice in upright erudition after seeing the wine list. 10/10
The service was professional and friendly, and my meal arrived sooner than expected for such a refined destination restaurant. 9/10“

“My husband and I booked a night at Wedmore to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. About 7 years ago we came here together within our first year of dating, so it seemed fitting to celebrate a year of marriage here. We were surprised to find our reservation came with tokens for a free wine flight in the tasting room. Unlike our last visit, we booked a tour this time. We did the extensive tour which was very enjoyable. Carmen was our tour guide and we just loved him. He was very knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed dinner at Gabriel Archer Tavern. The food was absolutely amazing. Our last trip we ate at Cafe Provençal in the hotel and while it was good, it certainly didn’t stand up to what the tavern has to offer.
We chatted with some more seasoned patrons of the winery. Many of which complained about the logo change and other changes under new ownership. I am not sure what changed about the winery itself but we far more enjoyed ourselves this time around compared to our first visit in 2018. We loved the new logo. It felt more personal to the winery. The wine glasses we received as keepsakes with the new logo actually feel like a winery glass with a beautiful corkscrew etched on them and even having the name on aside from the logo. I believe we left our glasses behind in 2018 because the “ww” was underwhelming and didn’t show where the glasses came from. We didn’t care to have something we might’ve questioned in the future about where it came from.
We do wish the tour taught us which cheeses pair well with what foods. The cheese plate and crackers, truffles and jam were tasty but I left curious what would’ve complemented each type of wine.
Staff at the tavern were amazing and friendly, but a bit too quick to jump on asking how everything tasted the second it hit the table before I could even pick up my fork. I’d have liked a moment to taste my food but no biggie.
Complimentary breakfast at the hotel was okay. I expected a better offering of food. There was no water out, only juices, and by the time we had finished our food, an employee walked up to the table to ask if we’d like water. We were the only ones dining at the time so I’m not sure why they waited til last minute.
Aside from that, our room had paper thin walls. We could hear the people above us walking, dropping things, and constantly flushing the toilet… ALL NIGHT LONG. We did not sleep a wink because of the noise. We could even make out some of their conversations. We were near the elevators and many people walking by also had overheard conversations by us. So word of caution, your private conversations are not so private in the hotel. I don’t remember so much noise our last visit. I do wish some construction/changes would take place to better this. That was our only downfall and I’m still exhausted from the night of sleep I missed out on.
Aside from all of that, we really enjoyed ourselves, walking the winery, and learning about the vineyard. We noticed some fairy lights at night, I think a lit walking trail for a late evening walk would be a beautiful addition. Since we’ve had a 50/50 experience on the noise in the hotel, we plan to stay again.
Thanks for a nice weekend getaway and one year anniversary celebration.“

“We took a visiting friend to the Easter brunch and had a delightful time. The ambience is terrific and the staff take great pains to enhance the entire experience by sharing historical tidbits about the facility and colonial taverns. We had a flute player entertain us. We were all pleasantly surprised by the scope of the meal and the excellent quality, as we really thought it would be a decent meal in a special venue. The meal was superb! Leg of lamb perfectly prepared and huge portions that three of us couldn't finish. Chicken fricassee. Perfectly roasted root vegetables. The soup starter (carrot and apple bisque) was savory and enjoyable. Not flavors we experience everyday. The desert course included rhubarb crumble and a pudding with lavender cookies. We will definitely be on the lookout for other opportunities to enjoy Shields' tavern.“
