“My recent visit to Carnal, located around the Central Business District in Bellingham, WA, left me thoroughly impressed. Intrigued by the rave reviews, we decided to explore this local gem, and we're glad we did!Carnal's menu, though simple, offers a delightful array of dishes that showcase creativity and a commitment to quality ingredients. Each plate was interesting, expertly crafted and beautifully presented. While we couldn't indulge in their colourful cocktails on this visit due to the long drive ahead, we are excited to return and try them out.We captured a few highlights from our meal:* Housemade Brioche Rolls: These were incredibly soft and buttery, a definite must-order.* Fried Chicken Wings: Roasted in duck fat, these were hands down the best wings I have ever had.* Grilled Pork Rib Cap: A unique and flavorful dish.* Slow-Cooked Beef Short Ribs: It is no surprise that nearly every table enjoyed these. They were cooked and seasoned to perfection, truly unique.Overall, Carnal is a must-visit for anyone in Bellingham looking for a memorable dining experience. We can't wait to return and explore more of their menu, especially those cocktails!??Food: Must Try!Service: ????????Kids: ??? A-OK for kids. “Nice place to grab a craft cocktail and relax. I am usually there during the week and it's pretty low key and classy. I usually end up there for a manhattan anytime I am in the area. Bartender is always very attentive and willing to chat.“
“Fun and comfortable lounge! My sister and I stopped in for a pre dinner beverage, it's centrally located so quick and easy walk to many places. We had beauty school dropout cocktails, delicious and refreshing. Very pleased to see mocktail/NA offerings too! Friendly service and very cool vibe,“
“I was the first person to be fired a few months after they opened over 30 years ago! I was one of original few people getting the place ready for the grand opening. At the time it was the only nonsmoking bar in town and that was a great draw. I remember the opening night quite well - before opening time there was a line up the stairs and within minutes the place was jam-packed until closing. The original owner was kind of a jerk (not just because I was fired!). I guess it's on the 3rd owner now. This was the first time I've been back since my inglorious departure about 30 years ago. This visit - 30 years later, my buddies and I had a great time over great brew and and grub (I had the elk burger). The server was great during our about 5 hours there. I would likely go back in fewer than 30 more years when I make my way back to Bham!“
“I had my suspicions being attached to a hotel but this place is great! Happy hour options also include tasty food at reasonable prices. Everything I got to try was really tasty. The drinks are really good as well as generous on the pours! I’d also like to give a big shout out to their service here, all those girls are the sweetest, most hard workers I’ve seen servicing a restaurant in awhile. It’s the service that really pushed my review to 5 stars.“
“Really enjoyed our experience! New to town and I am excited to have a go-to restaurant like this in the Bellingham area. Polished design, very attentive service, unique menu (the right size for me as I don't like large menus) and every dish was delicious and integrated well together. The carrot dish was our favorite appetizer. Minor improvements would be to serve less sauce on all the entrees (duck, steak & fish) as the meat was cooked perfectly but overshadowed. Entrees were a little salty overall, but did not notice that on the appetizers. Definitely recommend and will be back!Dietary restrictions: Most of the dishes were gluten free which was great!“
“So many great things to say! First, FOOD! Is there any way to give 20 stars??? Seriously! Had chicken fried chicken and the sausage gravy was amazing beyond belief! Most places this gravy is mediocre at best, here is amazing. Only one other restaurant I've been to is remotely close, a mom and pop place in Tacoma 12 years ago. Rest of plate was good, gravy made it a star! The wait staff is really pleasant and great to deal with, very happy with the whole experience. A bit of a downer is the homeless population, not restaurants fault yet it worth noting, talk for another day. Once inside feels like transported to a different time period. Back in the day there was a brothel upstairs, not anymore of course. Place is steeped in history and nostalgia. There's a bar on one half with a pool table at one end and old style paintings in a few places. I don't want to spoil it here, there is a story behind some of the wall paintings, just ask and they'll likely share. An extremely nice place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Can order anything from menu no matter time of day, and it all looked great! This is among one of my favorite restaurants right now, I just hope the city can clean things up... Fantastic work and many thanks to the crew here!“
“Super friendly staff and delicious Pasties. Even when they don't have the flavor you're looking for in the heated display, they can heat one up in a couple of minutes. I love that they are using local ingredients. The shop sits aside their production area, so you can see how these delightful pasties are made.“
