Hutong 胡同小酒馆 Reviews
The best food and vibes in Madison, no contest. Regulars here, and treated like family. Erin & Rita create the perfect at ease vibe in the dining area to compliment the mastery that goes on in the kitchen. (Erin went out of her way to return my forgotten wallet!) I really can't praise this place enough. If you're a recovering Midwestern pallet like me, Dan Dan & Ryans Chicken are the gateways to paradise. Overall, 4.3/5 but I'll round away up. Definitely, Hutong is worth the visit. A hole-in-the-wall feel Chinese restaurant that feels more like a speakeasy than a formal dining arrangement, Hutong brings ambience and down tempo flair to the bustling engagement of the downtown core.

Hutong serves delicious Chinese cuisine in a clean and positive atmosphere. The staff is friendly and quick, providing pleasant service. The interior is very cute and simple, creating a warm and inviting space. Many small plates are vegetarian or vegan, and the specials are highly recommended. The menu highlights include the flavorful beef noodle soup, dandan noodles, and garlic green beans. The cucumber salad is a super fresh and easy appetizer, and the Bingfen (ice jelly) is a refreshing treat. Diners often enjoy the noodle dishes, with the beef noodle being a popular choice. The restaurant offers an authentic Chinese dining experience with cozy decor and a limited but charming seating area, including a patio in warmer months. Prices are very affordable, making it easy to try more of the menu. The sesame cold noodles and Nanjing Eggplant Noodles are highly recommended, and desserts like Sesame Balls and Hutong Coconut Jelly are favorites. Reservations are suggested as the restaurant fills up quickly, especially on busy nights.
