“My fiancé and I went for our first time trying hot pot then brought a friend for their first hot pot experience. Great flavor, helpful staff, and good portions for the price. The hot and sour Thai is my favorite!Vegetarian options: They made a vegetarian version of a soup base that usually is made with pork. It was great!“
“A friend recommended this and we decided to try it spur of the moment - and what an excellent decision. Everyone was so kind and nice. The cocktails were delicious- a bit strong but that’s a good thing! We started with pot stickers which were surprisingly crispy and full of flavor. I had the Dan Dan Noodles which I was told were were spicy - which they were! But in a good way. By the bottom of the bowl I was craving the spice. My husband got the Braised Pork rice which was amazing as well. I really appreciate the kindness and service here. I cannot wait to return!“
“After having several menu items I can say that this place is absolutely wonderful! The red bean bun is delicious, the shrimp fried rice is delicious. Everything I've had here has been great. If you're putting off going, give it a try when you can! It's really good :)“
“Delicious! Great price. Its also authentic, which is important to me and can be hard to find in the midwest. I don't love the ambiance here for dining in the restaurant, but the food is really, really, good. Go for the food. By the way, don't try to park next to it, you see it's downtown!“
“I tried the Hot & Crispy Chicken. Those crispy bits are fantastic. I thought eating the crispy lil bits from Popeyes chicken was something, be sure to try this! Lots and Lots of hot red peppers in the mix but its only a little spicy if your not chewing on the peppers. ?️“
“The peanut butter chicken and General Tso's Chicken were outstanding. The beef and broccoli was okay. Massive amount of food for the money. The young lady that appears to run the place was so nice. The place was pretty busy with a steady stream of customers, yet service was basically immediate. I was kinda inebriated and looked kinda scruffy, but she still treated me very well. Also, she was right out there to wipe off the table next to me as soon as the guy eating there finished. Will be back soon!“
“I’ve been coming here for 6+ months, it is definitely my go to place for Chinese, the cashier is very friendlyTheir pork belly is really good, melts in your mouthThey sometimes have eggplant which I personally really like, their orange chicken is amazing as wellToday I tried their sweet n sour pork ribs?? IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD 1000/10Love this place“
“I have missed this place! I don’t live in the area anymore, but I made it a point to get dinner here tonight since I am visiting. My chicken egg foo young was just as amazing as I remember. The steamed dumplings were huge and had better flavor than most! My chicken egg roll was very well filled, it was super crispy and it was big compared to many as well. I wish there was a place this good close to where I live now. I had to wait for a few minutes for my food because I was early…they gave me free almond cookies while I waited. It was very sweet. I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.“
“Prices are unbeatable and the food was sooo good. We had such satisfying meals and the portions are so massive — they are definitely very generous and it lasted us a whole other meal. The interior and ambiance is so nice... we didn't plan to eat in the store but changed our minds because it's so nice and clean. Definitely plan on visiting often.“
“I love ramen. I love ramen way too much, as a matter of fact. After my go-to ramen place near campus went out of business, I was distraught. I've tried several other places, only to be entirely underwhelmed. However, my friend and I tried Umami yesterday, and I can say with certainty that it was some of the best ramen I have had. The noodles are made in-house, and it absolutely tastes like it (in the best way possible). Our server Sidney (apologies if that isn't how it is spelled) was the sweetest ever, and had plenty of suggestions for us. The ramen is a dollar or two more expensive than typical restaurant ramen, however, for the amount of meat they put in each bowl it is well worth it.My complaints are limited and greatly outweighed by the positive experience, but the only critiques I have are:- The bamboo in the ramen was a little bit too crunchy- Not a big fan of the extra charge for some spiciness, but it was pretty yummy- The N/A drinks are tasty, but not super worth the price for the amount you getThank you so much for a fantastic experience! Looking forward to coming back.“
“Cute little family owned spot making authentic delicious Chinese food! Everything they make is super tasty. Usually Lo Mein or Fried Rice at other spots is dry and hard to consume but not at this location, perfectly seasoned and doesn't need additional sauces at all. Love their special spicy chili oil they have. Also have 2 adorable kids! Order from their actual website and you can use many coupons they offer. Free General Tsos Entree with $40 purchase!“
“The food I ordered is so gooood. I never been to the restaurant and it’s been there for years. A friend suggested and I’m glad went. The food is amazing. I got theSzechuan tofu, small shrimp fried rice, and shrimp Singapore I’m telling you the hype is real.“
“My friend brought me to Nani's last fall, and I fell in love with the dim sum and thought that this would be the perfect place to have our first event of the year. We were able to hold our meetup in a private room that was equipped with a bar (bartender, Kevin). Justin (the owner) and his team were amazing to work with. I highly recommend trying their dim sum and if you're looking for a spacious private room to hold an event, give them a call.“
“Very friendly service and super fast food. Lots of indoor seating and the restaurant is very clean.I enjoyed eating off of real plates with real silverware. The portions were big, so we needed takeout containers. I was bummed to see horrible styrofoam offered, but glad to see that a regular more reusable plastic container was also available.Food was made well, but very mild“
“I hadn't eaten all day and was craving some Chinese food. Walked the 4 minutes from my house to here, ordered the sweet and sour chicken combo, and everything was out in less than 10 minutes. They carefully put my food in a bag and offered extra condiments. Rice was flavorful and has a good mix of veggies. Chicken was crispy, and the eggroll was really good, and I usually hate eggrolls. I am very happy to live next to this and will definitely be coming here more often now.“
“The food here is pretty darn good. If I had to consider the fact that this place is in Madison/WI, I'd give it a 5/5. But objectively speaking, it's above average. If you live here, it's probably one of the best you can get here.“
“I almost want to gatekeep this place but I’m shocked at how little reviews this place has. I always come to global food market JUST for the brisket rice noodle soup (#20, $12.95) and the occasional mango sago ($3.95)!!!! I’ve ordered the same dish at least 6 times. The meat portion is on another level, ingredients are so fresh and broth is so hearty and well seasoned. When first served it doesn’t look like much because there’s just so much broth but the bowl is huge. Delicious flat rice noodles and bok choy.I forgot to take a picture of the before but here is the after. ?“
“Happy Work seems to be nearly the only place where I can find real chicken fried rice. All other places don't make it authentically at all. It's so good at Happy Wok that I order the absolute biggest box I can do there are plenty of left-overs!“
“One of the best take out chinese food places around. Yes it's better than other chaing jangs. I don't know why. The products are better and they are cooked better.Only complaint is I get over cooked lo mien if I don't specify it to be al dente. We always go to this one when we are hungering for some comfort food.“
“Stopped by here for a quick bite. The service was really fast and we were greeted and seated almost immediately. The place has nothing special to it decor-wise. Wouldn't say it's a fancy place or anything. Most of the other patrons seemed to be college students. I was there with some old college friends and family. Great atmosphere to just catch up over food. The menu seemed to have more authentic Chinese food rather than focus on the Americanized things like Crab ragoons and orange chicken. They had bull frogs, duck, and other options. Very nice selection. And very fairly priced.I had the Mongolian beef. We also got country style pork and beef fried rice. All were generously portioned enough to share. The food tasted great and I will definitely be going back.OverallIf you're looking for good Chinese food location, this is a great spot. Beware their food isn't exactly like the typical Chinese-American restaurant (but they do have those options too). Not a place that would impress a date on the first night. But definitely would be great to go with friends. Only down side was we never got water refills.“
“Excellent ambiance and some of the best ramen I've had in the Madison area. Excited to try their sushi next time, which also looked incredible. The atmosphere is excellent for a moderately informal date or special occasion, or just grabbing a bite with friends. The cocktails were creative and delicious.“
“Pretty standard Chinese food, it's good. Best on the north side. The rice is usually cooked perfectly. Besides Tai's on the west side, this is my favorite place to order Chinese from in Madison, because they have honey walnut shrimp. ?They also have very fast delivery when it's available.Overall, good place to order from.“
“Amazing food. Excellent staff members, extremely professional. I appreciate this buffet very much it's different then the others I've tried before. Quality food for sure!! and I'm really mad that I live so far but when I visited Wisconsin last I needed to try it out and I was impressed. ?“
“Found this hidden gem randomly. Food is delicious and authentic. The server is super friendly but she does not speak English. You can order by number as shown on menu. Free soft drink comes with the dishes for each person. Cheaper pricing than other Chinese restaurants nearby. Will definitely come back to try more dishes!“
“Recently found this place and ate here a few times, could become my favorite restaurant on campus soon. The food is spectacular and they give good portions that last about 2 meals. I do wish that they included a drink in with their meal since the place is just a little pricy. The atmosphere inside is pretty friendly and is a great spot to chill out and take a break. Overall its a fantastic place, just really wish they charged a tad bit less or included a drink.“
“Vegetable potstickers did not taste good at all. Ordered veggie spring rolls and received deep fried egg rolls that were mostly breading and also not very good. I ordered tomato cilantro soba and my husband ordered mapo tofu, both very bland, although we should have known that as there was no way to indicate spice level. We had our order delivered and the food did arrive hot.Vegetarian options: Very limited vegetarian options“
“I have been eating delicious Chinese food from here for a decade. The quality is consistent and high, the prices are reasonable, my order has never been wrong, the staff are friendly, the service is prompt, and did I mention the food is delicious? No need for another Chinese takeout spot - this one checks every box for me!“
“This is a very long review. The short version is ... the next time you want Chinese take-out, get it from Chang Jiang East Side. Period.First of all, DO NOT confuse Chang Jiang East Side (4929 Commercial Ave) with the Chang Jiang restaurants on Raymond Rd, Muir Field Rd, and Gammon Rd in Madison. They are not the same, and they are not the subject of this review. My wife and I love Chinese take-out, consider it our decadent treat, and have ordered it regularly wherever we have lived, from as many different restaurants as we can. Chang Jiang East Side is one of the top three, if not the best, Chinese restaurants we have found in our 60+ years of life, head and shoulders above any other in the Madison area. For starters, it is clearly family owned and operated, by people who care deeply about the quality of their food and their service. They treat each customer as if he or she is the most important person in the world at that moment. If they tell you your order will be ready in 15 minutes, they mean 10-15 minutes, not 20-25 minutes. (For this reason, we no longer call ahead to place our order, but drive to the restaurant, place our order in person, and wait. Why take a chance that you'll be delayed and the great food will have begun to cool down?) The food we have ordered in the 5-6 times since we discovered Chang Jiang East Side has been, without exception, wonderful. My absolute favorite, which I've never seen anywhere else, is Coconut Shrimp. We never pass up the Crab Rangoon or Steamed Pork Dumplings. I recently ordered the Crab Stick appetizer for the first time, and it is now on the permanent list. We can also recommend the Boneless Spare Ribs, Hot and Spicy Beef, Beef with Broccoli, and Beef with Garlic Sauce. The only reason I don't mention any chicken or pork dishes is that our tastes favor beef and seafood, so we have never ordered those. I have no reason to believe they're not also wonderful. Since my Asian wife makes the very best fried rice in the history of the world, we have never ordered it from Chang Jiang East Side, but based on everything else we've had, I recommend you give it a try.“
“I took my grandson for dinner last night and it was fabulous. We did the restaurant week offer and it was so good. The crab ragoon was the best I ever had, the soup dumplings were amazing and the dessert buns at the end with egg custard filling were so good. Will definitely be going back and enjoy other things on the menu also.Kid-friendliness: My grandson loved the décor and had to walk around and look at all the cool things they had on display and also absolutely loved the food.“
