“I found High Ground Brewing while on a drive just exploring the area. I didn't originally plan to stop in Terra Alta, but then I saw the sign for High Ground Brewing and decided to check it out. It was such a memorable experience. I wish I had written this review sooner because I wish I could name drop the guy behind the bar that served us. You could tell he was invested in the brewery because he was so passionate about the beer they serve. I mean you know it's good when he says, "I'm going to make you try an IPA" after you say you don't like IPAs. Everything he gave me was excellent. I absolutely love this place. I highly recommend High Ground Brewing if you haven't been here yet. I will certainly be back the next time I'm in the area!”

“We ordered and split a chicken bacon ranch hoagie and onion rings .... Plenty of food for my wife and I, and absolutely delicious! The sandwich had so much chicken I could hardly pick it up. I wish I had taken a photo before we ate.”

“This was a spontaneous dinner. We found ourselves there and there was a lot going on. They had a tournament happening in part of the lounge so the staff was spread pretty thin. Our drinks went empty and it took awhile for our food to come out.”

“The food was good. They have cleaned the place up and have gotten caring workers. The food was not cold and they waited to make the sundaes until the food was done. Most of the time, they make the sundaes and the sit there and melt. Then when you leave they melt all over the place. Was much better this time then in the past. Keep up the good work new workers.!!!”

“My wife and I stayed there for her birthday this past weekend . We wanted to stay on Deep Creek lake- which was three times the cost but we were still close enough to enjoy everything at Deep Creek. As everyone says the place is dated but well taken care off and it shows that it is a community that truly cares. The staff was so kind and gracious- even had a birthday card for my wife waiting when we arrived. It is a true community both of people that live on the lake but also rent out. Santa was there this past weekend for a kids buffet breakfast. The lodge was decorated beautifully and there were numerous activities going on all lead by the property owners. The lake is pristine, the trails are well maintained- not a single piece of trash- the game room is retro and fun, the pool was amazing, the free breakfast for hotel guests was a step above continental. This is a true hidden gem. We plan on staying there this summer and becoming property owners in the future.”

“First time visiting and very much impressed! The place was packed when we got there yet we were attended to right away! The QR code ordering is not only convenient but quite expedient. I had a cold beer in hand less than a 1 minute from ordering. Just wow! Special shout out to Jameson for keeping the kitchen open for us as we arrived near the kitchen closing time. Overall the Screech Owl has great food and even better yet attentive customer service. Something so hard to get these days sadly. Cannot recommend them enough, thank you to all the staff there!”

“This little diner has an amazing appeal and atmosphere. It's right by the state park. It's very down to earth with great local staff that work incredibly hard and are attentive to your needs. REMINDER THEY ONLY TAKE CASH OR CHECK. However I have been told there is a place down the road with an ATM. Please note that when we went yesterday to my knowledge there was only one waitress who did her very best to seat everyone, take orders, etc. as efficiently as humanly possible. Also if you're reading this please be kind to your wait staff or anyone in the food industry. Back on topic of the food, my brother got the brunch burger which was amazing and very filling. Do note their portions are generous, as I could not finish my western omelette which was stuffed full of goodness and the size of half the plate. The price are incredibly reasonable considering food costs, service, and portions. The thing I truly love is that they support other local small businesses. They were selling tumblers out of the case by the register, as well as a local photographers work on the wall. Otherwise they were phenomenal 11/10 would eat there again! And will continue recommending it!Parking: Gravel lot park where you can find a spot.”

“This place has great food and the bartender (Ashley) is awesome. Monday night wing night. The wings are by far the best wings around. Friday night steak special is incredible as well. Stop by and see Ashley for a adult beverage, you’ll thank me later!”

“Always a busy place, you really get your moneys worth the icecream cones are huge they have benches around if you want to eat there a lot of people eat in there car , I take my dogs we get a table I get my dogs half of a child size cone is they never charge me we sit at bench well we eat I enjoy going it's a very family place.”

“I saw the pits smoking away in the parking lot and knew I found something good! Awesome BBQ, had the brisket sandwich and it was the best brisket I've ever had and I've tried a lot! I also smoke my own meats at home and this puts mine to shame. Wife had the grilled chicken and said it was delicious, nice char on the outside and juicy on the inside. Oakland is a very small town and this place is a gem! Highly recommend.”

Had space for our big group of 11 and took care of us quickly getting drinks out, including delicious hot chocolates.Service was really great, our server Pauline was very friendly and attentive along with the young man helping her.The food seemed to be made from scratch, ie home made style cooking and it was very very delicious along with the desserts.Will probably come back next time I make my way out this direction.”
