“This is a underrated hidden gem of the Northside. Sashimi was fantastic as-well as the Miso soup. Would definitely recommend the lunch bento that is available from 11:30-3:30pm.
Only critique is the sushi is smaller than expected (bite size) but tasted good.“

“10/5 would eat here all day every day if I could afford to LOL. My mind was blown at all that was on offer. Whoever your chefs are my hats off to them. The food the flavors the pairings the combinations of flavors the presentation on top of an atmosphere carefully curated into a cozy lively Japanese style tapas bar with the most stellar customer service from your servers you can't go wrong here, you just can't. My brain had fireworks going off the entire time I was there tasting everything I had ordered from the duck and beef tataki to the 5 assorted sashimi and the aburi saba. It was "chef's kiss". If you're new to Edmonton and love Japanese styled and inspired foods you HAVE TO COME HERE. Reservations highly encouraged we got lucky to get in as quick as we did without one, but this place is VERY popular.“

“This place is amazing. Great atmosphere, super helpful staff and hostess. Rolls are perfect sizes, with a range of large and small. Our 10 yr old wanted dumplings and the 6pc Gyoza was perfect for him. All ingredients were super fresh, avocados were the perfect ripeness. Their signature seasonal deserts are pcs of art, the amount of time and detail on these are absolutely stunning. I would travel across the city for this place, luckily we’re really close. 10/10.“

“It was packed when we cane here. The ramen was very good. I'd like to come back here when I'm in edmonton again to try Hu's beef noodle.
The space was not exactly big but they managed to fit all those customers without feeling too close to each other.
Appies were great, spring rolls tasted like costco (tasted generic) chicken kataage and tofu were very good, all noodles and drinks including their japanese tea were very very very good.
For a party of 6 people, all main, 6 appies, and everyone had drinks, we only paid $176 taxes and tip in. It's very reasonably priced and the quality is very good.
Will definitely be back!“

“I really enjoyed my lunch here. It had really tasty sushi for not too bad of a price. I definitely recommend getting makis and the flaming salmon roll. They even added caviar!
I will definitely come back soon and I recommend you come here as well. It is a small building so there are not many seats available.“

“My Japanese wife and I were recommended to go here by her Japanese friends in Edmonton, we drove from Red Deer to eat here and were extremely happy that we did. It is Japanese-family owned and operated, and it's obvious that they take pride in the quality of their food.
We will definitely be making the drive in the future to eat here again. It's better than any of the sushi places in Calgary as well.“

“Where do i start? This was my first time here with my mom and we were blown away! Beautiful little restaurant, this place is a GEM! It was packed for a Wednesday, but the service was consistent and incredible! The tables have extra napkins and there's a nice container with some wooden chopsticks. Your food is served on little wooden boards which was awesome! The wasabi looked like it was in the shape of a flower. The details at this place are amazing . Alot of severers and all of them were so sweet and attentive . I love the tiny portions here, it lets you trt everything on the menu without getting stuffed on rice! The sashimi is small and thin, which is just perfect. Most of the items you get only 2 pieces, you get little rice and its great! Most ayce places give you so much rice with your rolls and the portions are huge. Everything here is delicate and balanced. The beef tatayki was my favorite! Three strips of deliciousness . It makes you order more! I really enjoyed getting my sushi in controlled portions. Because of this me and my mom ate alot. We tried the toro which was extra, but it was melt in your mouth. Theres also an option here to get raw food to cook on a stone! We didnt do that, but you can get fish, shrimp, mussels and steak! You cook it right at your table . Most of the food we had melted in our mouths. What i really enjoyed was that we got everything in all our orders. We didn't have to repeat any items like we do at other sushi places. 10/10, sushi toshi is our favorite place now!!“

“This is an excellent restaurant! The food is delicious and relatively well-priced, the service is great, and even though it feels a little upscale, they accommodate kids better than some “family” restaurants I’ve been to. The main reason I say that is because they have step-stools in every bathroom so I don’t have to lift my kid to wash their hands. They also have plastic cups, training chopsticks, and high chairs for the little ones. Plus the kid’s menu is regular food in portions and presentation appealing to kids, rather than a completely separate menu with just grilled cheese and french fries. I’ve been here twice now and the biggest thing preventing me from going more frequently is my personal budget for dining out.“
“Must try the next time you’re in Canada place.
New management, kind young couple, new items on the menu, they have breakfast and the bowls are fresh. Restaurant is clean, fresh, light.
After eating here 5-6 times - they is are open early and are putting in the work to have an option for breakfast available downtown. It’s worth supporting local.
The atmosphere for a downtown food court is pretty great - quiet, spacious, bright, safe and a great place to have a coffee, bite and catch up on any emails. Building security is friendly, it’s 2026 and employees are back in the building, and there’s children walking around regularly from the daycare in the building.“

“I've been a Mikado customer and enthusiast since the owner (David) was a sushi chef at the original location back in the early 1980s. The fact that I (now 'we') continue to be clients of this fine establishment for over four decades pretty much illustrates how highly we regard this group of restaurants. 5.5 stars out of 5!!!“

“I went for the $5 lunch ramen, assuming it might be a smaller portion, so-so broth, just okay noodles, no meat - I was very wrong! Delicious, quality food still! Highly recommend the mango rolls to go with. Be there before 12:00 or you will have to wait, I’m staring at a line-up of 10 people outside. There’s even 1 hour free parking (3 spaces) directly out front, which might have been the biggest surprise of all.“

“It was a really good spot to have dinner and was honestly incredible. The staff were really nice. The only thing is that you have to order by scanning a barcode, which I didn’t find too difficult. It actually avoids communication issues since everything is done through the website, but it is necessary to bring a phone and have access to Wi-Fi to order. You can always choose the “pay at front” option, where they bring the machine at the very end and you pay there.
The food is really good, and the portion sizes are huge. Everyone I went with had enough to take leftovers home. The pricing is very reasonable. They also have boba tea with a really nice selection, along with a pretty big dessert menu.
It’s a great place for a large group of people, and they are pretty busy even during weekdays. Their braised duck is incredible. Their Shanghai noodles are pretty good, and the stir-fried chicken rice is also really good“

““I tried the sesame beef rice bowl here and it was really tasty — tender beef and great flavour, and the price was fair. The staff at the front were super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. This is a solid spot for Japanese rice bowls, bento, or sushi, with fast, casual service and good portions. Definitely worth returning!”“

“This place was busy on a Monday night. We got two appetizers, 2 miso soups and two roles of sushi. Before our appetizers were even done, we got a third appetizer ON THE HOUSE because of the delay! Food was great, staff were great and the atmosphere was great.“

“This is the best sushi place we’ve ever been to. Everything from the food to the service to the presentation was phenomenal. You can tell everything was made with love and care and the chefs should be damn proud. Micheal, our server, was incredibly polite and quick to refill our glasses when needed. The atmosphere was extremely peaceful and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable as well! Overall, 15/10“

“Excellent dining experience, quick service. The sashimi was overly generous and would be more enjoyable in smaller more elegant pieces. The tacos and other unique menu items were an interesting addition to the traditional sushi menu. Many items for non sushi eaters in the group. The butterfish and white tuna was fresh firm. Will be back.“

“I’ve always loved this place—it’s been my favorite spot for as long as I can remember. My father started bringing me here as soon as I could walk, back when it was located on the other side of the complex beside the old Movie Studio (now Remedy).
I recently visited Edmonton again, and after having sushi in many coastal cities, I can confidently say Kyoto still does so much right. I do miss when the salmon skin rolls were tall and flaky enough to fall apart, and when the eel sometimes came out a touch too crispy—but that was part of the charm.
Your Sunday waitress has an incredible work ethic, and it’s great to see this place still thriving after all these years..“

“My favourite place to go for good quality sashimi. It’s pricey but worth it. It’s quite small though, but that’s what makes it very intimate and peaceful in my opinion. The omakase is only $89, which is a good price and it fills you up! It’s 10 courses I think. :)“

“The menu isn't super expensive but what they do have on the menu is all great!
The sashimi/raw fish options were all fresh with no fishy smell/taste. Their tempura was all lightly battered and crispy. The fried food was all super hot and tasty.
Everything came out in a reasonable time. Even though it was busy the server was attentive and checked in on our party of 6 several times throughout the night, refilling water and asking for drinks and other things.
For the price we paid, I feel we got a lot of food and the size of the rolls were all very well portioned. I definitely will be coming back as this is another south side sushi spot that seems to be underrated.“

“Tried Kabuki Sushi & Grill before a movie at the theatre next door. Overall, I did enjoy it.. the food was simple, filling, and felt pretty nutritious. It’s the kind of place that’s lowkey and easy.
That said, it took almost 40 minutes for our food to come out, even though there was only one other two-top dining, so definitely keep that in mind if you’re on a time crunch. The decor also isn’t anything special, it feels a bit dated and doesn’t really add to the atmosphere.
Not a bad experience by any means, and worth the wait if you’re not rushed... just go in with realistic expectations.“
