“Tried out Vecchia for lunch today. Located in the Moss Rock area of Hoover it was a little out of the way for us, but was recommended by a friend. At first glance, from the outside, I thought that this might be a nice place. Upon entrance I was shuttled down a narrow hallway lined with drinks and wines to a cashiers desk. We placed our order and served ourselves bottled drinks, from a cooler behind us.The prices for a 10 oz pie were $18 so I was hoping for a great find in wood fired pizza for our area.We then went around the corner to a very table cluttered dining area. After noticing that if you asked for water that it was “self serve” from a high school style water fountain in plastic cups. No wait staff roomed the area, only the cashier and the two cooks. When the pizza arrived it was fresh out of the wood fired oven. Nice char in spots but the bottom was still a little under cooked. I ordered the classic pepperoni but had to search to find said toppings. Scarce and unevenly distributed. Then came the bite; the tip of my slice was soggy and limp. No crunch. The bone was nice and crisp with good flavor. The red tomato sauce was bland at best, no spices, I ended up adding salt to my slice to help the flavor. Cheese was thin but nice flavor and pull.I looked for Parmesan, but had to go to the water fountain to find the powdered cheese shaker. (No fresh Parmesan available)Nothing was on the tables but a beer bucket with plastic utensils and off brand napkins. For what was told to me was a true Italian pizzeria I was disappointed. Pizza wasn’t bad but could have been so much better with somespices and flavor. And charging these prices I would expect some wait staff and fountain drinks. (Ditch the high school water fountain).Establishment was clean and staff was nice. Food was OK, maybe even good had it been a lower price point. But Vecchie has some loyal followers and it was busy for that time of day, so others must enjoy it.Overall 3.5 stars!“

“We went on a Sunday evening. The location has loads of quirky charm. Employees were courteous, the food service was quick. We sat on the outside side area …nice. The food was good. We had steak and chicken quesadillas, all tasty. I’d prefer more side options vs chips but overall very good. Highly recommended!“

“Atmosphere: Punch Love Coffee is a small, bright shop in the Makebhm space. There are several tables outside but only a few small tables inside, so it may be more difficult to come with a larger group. The interior is minimalistic with plants scattered around the cafe, as well as a giant monstera! Service: The owner/barista was very nice! One thing to note is that they don't have wifi, so this might not be the optimal place for working remotely. Food: We ordered a vanilla cappuccino and regular cappuccino. They were both served at a nice temperature -- not too hot or cold. The vanilla was a bit on the sweet side, but we still very much enjoyed our drinks. Overall: We loved how intimate and refreshing Punch Love Coffee felt. The drinks were good, and the vibes were positive and friendly. We'd say Punch Love Coffee is a great place to read, chat, and enjoy a drink.“

“Visiting the area and decided to stop here for a quick caffeine boost one morning. I’m usually seeking out coffee shops that also have a nice selection of hot teas, with the London fog latte being my go-to. They were out of Earl grey when I went which was a bummer but I ended up getting the pistachio rose flavored iced coffee and it was good. The rose was very strong- which I enjoyed but if you like a subtle flavor profile be sure to try something else or maybe ask for less syrup than they usually use. It was packed and there weren’t a lot of places to sit and enjoy our coffees, but we took them to go. Overall a good experience and I would love to come back at some point to try a London fog latte.“

Cahaba Brewing Company Brewery • $

“Here solo with 2 dogs from IL. Google reviews said dog friendly. SO GLAD and much appreciated you are a TRUE dog friendly location. (Dogs allowed inside/outside including water bowls and public restrooms that a solo person can bring their pet with them). Im not much of a beer drinker and they did have options of cocktails. The cute guy at the counter was polite and made suggestions. I decided to try the Strawberry Blonde. I saw several other people with their dogs. I was able to have a couple beers, eat a burger (from food truck outside), chill indoors with my dogs and use the restroom. A huge outdoor and indoor sitting area with a variety of seating types. I would give this location 10 stars if I could.“

“Come here with friends!!!This is not your typical bar. Oh no. No no no. This is a hidden gem with special secrets. It’s called Monday night brewery, and if you go on Monday nights, you got trivia night which is a BLAST.They have specials running every day of the week, themed for the day. They’ve got a friendly, fun atmosphere with great service and enough room for large groups (AND couches!). The outside patio is huge too. The beer lineup is crazy good- there WILL be something in their list you like. That I know for sure. Yes it’s technically Atlanta beer, but yall…. You’re not cheating on Birmingham I promise. This spot is amazing. But you want to know the very best thing here? It’s those nachos. Oh my god those nachos. Yall better come hungry, and you better order the nachos. If you don’t? Well, I’m sorry but you’re just flat-brained. THE best in the metro, period. Pair it with the “taco Tuesday Mexican lager” and you’re set. Here’s a promise- regardless of what you are after, coming here is a win.I will say… parking can be a bit tough due to the large apartment buildings nearby.SO, Come early… stay for the amenities, beer lineup, and full food menu.“
