“Traveling towards home and needed to stop to try some BBQ in the Memphis/West Memphis area. Growing up in KCMO where BBQ abounds, my dad taught me the best BBQ joints are the “hole in the wall” places (& just off the beaten path) for both food and service. I learned years ago he wasn’t wrong on that! Ray’s did not disappoint! Ray suggested a crowd pleaser for our family of 6 which included multiple types of ribs, pulled pork, sausages, slaw, potato salad, beans, fries, and sauce. We’ll have the best kind of leftovers for days and it was worth every penny! First class service! Thanks for the amazing BBQ and friendly service! Not much to do on a Sunday night, still a great place to grab a beer and ordening a beer at the somewhat 'rude by design' bartender :)Great night with Live music. “Road tripped to Memphis with my 15 year old and couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to Memphis! Harper was a great tour guide. Super friendly and knowledgeable not only about all things food in Memphis but learned so much of the history. Also, was neat all the different things he pointed out we would of had no idea about just walking along. The walking was just right, no complaints from the teen. Food was amazing everywhere we went, and we checked out 3 places he recommended outside of the tour over the next couple days(all great service and food!). I would recommend def to anyone new to Memphis, I would love to go on one of their other tours if I go back! Thanks Harper for helping us make sweet memories, it was Caleb’s favorite part of the trip!“
“Just a bit down the road from West Memphis and worth the extra 10 minutes. We came in a 1:00 pm and started the after lunch rush. Every 5 minutes in walks another customer. Got the basic BBQ sandwich on this trip. Lots of seating. Friendly lady at the counter. Enjoy.“
“Head down the stairs to the basement of 52 S. Second Street to this rustic Memphis BBQ spot with a jukebox and plenty of memorabilia adorning the walls.Overall, they were not too busy on Wednesday in the late afternoon/early evening. Our group enjoyed the experience and left satisfied with the food and the service.Chicken BBQ Nachos: the chicken was flavorful and moist, the cheese was a liquid nacho cheese, but the chips were just round tortilla chips probably from Sysco or US Foods. Nothing super impressive, but still tasty. 7/10Rendezvous Special (Ham, Cheese, Salami, Sausage, Pickles & Peppers): in my opinion you should just get the 'cheese and sausage plate' with extra sausage. The only difference is you don't get the ham and salami, which adds nothing special to the dish. The sausage had dry rub on it and was good, but not great. The cheddar cheese was in long rectangles, and would have been better cubed so you could make a perfect bite. The pickles would have been better as chips instead of spears for the same reason. 7/10Half rack pork ribs: the ribs were tender but still had some texture and bite to them. Flavor was good, lots of rub and light on sauce. I didn't LOVE the raw rub being put on when the ribs are served. Also I'm not 100% sure, but I think they leave the membrane on the ribs, which was on the crispy side and wasn't the best mouth feel. I prefer no membrane if you can't tell. 7/10Brisket: I ordered the "pork ribs and brisket" and the dish came with about 5 slices of brisket. 2 slices were dry as a bone and not good, and the other 3 slices weren't as dry but they were slathered in BBQ sauce which totally drowned out the flavor of the brisket. Not sure if this was a fluke or not, but that was my experience. 5/10Baked beans: these had nice flavor and chunks of pork which added to the texture and unctuiousness. I don't normally go crazy over baked beans, but these were quite good. 9/10Coleslaw: vinegar base, pungent flavor. I enjoyed it, but it's not for everybody. 8/10“
“Look for the Dollar Tree or you’ll miss it. The place isn’t very wide on the front but goes way back and it’s actually really big inside. Now that you’ve found the place, make sure you have an appetite as the portions are huge. You could make a meal with what falls off the bbq sandwich. The Firehouse potatoes and a nice touch when you want something different than Slaw or Beans. Friendly staff and the speed of the service is just right for a working man’s lunch.Parking: Strip mall type parkingKid-friendliness: Special kids menu.Wheelchair accessibility: Good maneuvering room if you in a wheelchair and an ADA compliant restroom.“
“I ordered the rib tips, slaw and baked beans. The meat on the rib tips were so tender and seasoned to perfection. The cole slaw had the perfect amount of sweetness. The inside was clean. Come try it. You won't be disappointed. I would have posted pictures but no one wants to see a plate of bones.“
“Food was great. Only in town for one day and to complicate things my husband is newly on crutches AND we are traveling with our dog. Brian the security guard out front was very kind and helped out pup and hobbling husband to the patio while I ordered. Cold beer and generous portions were enjoyed and the live music was great although we couldn’t hear it on the patio“
“When we walked in I could tell by the amazing aroma that it was going to be good and it was! Had the chopped BBQ sammich and the coleslaw on it was AMAZING ? Just the right amount of zing. The beans were also just perfect with bits of meat in them. To top it all off they had 20 oz Faygo and who doesn't like that with your BBQ?!“
