“Such an amazing experience. We’re from Texas and randomly stopped in Tucson on our way back home. We stayed near Vertigo at the Leo Kent hotel and were looking for a local wine bar. We happened walk in right before the owner had an impromptu photography session, afterwards she generously shared the charcuterie board they had made for the shoot with us. That sparked a great conversation where she told us about the history of the building and how she got into starting the wine bar. It felt genuine, welcoming, and personal. Our waiter was equally fantastic—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Incredible wine, great atmosphere, and hospitality you don’t forget. We’ll definitely be back.“

“URSA is somewhat difficult for me to review.

I’ve been fortunate to dine at many Michelin-starred restaurants in the U.S. and internationally, so at roughly $150 per person, I found myself comparing URSA not simply with other Tucson restaurants, but with the ambitious tasting-menu experiences it clearly aspires to join.

And ambition is definitely present here.

The menu draws inspiration from the chef’s childhood, family recipes, and the Sonoran Desert — considerably elevated, unless his grandmother possessed some extraordinary culinary skills! 😄

The dining room is modern, restrained, and beautifully minimalist, with wood, muted tones, dried grasses, and botanical elements that evoke the desert without becoming theatrical.

Service is extraordinarily attentive. Every crumb or drop seems to disappear almost immediately. At times, the attention borders on almost too attentive, but that feels more like a refinement that will come with time than a real criticism.

The hostess, whom I later learned is the chef’s wife, welcomes guests with genuine warmth and obvious affection for the restaurant. She creates an excellent first impression.

The open kitchen allows you to watch the chef and team work throughout dinner, although the chef himself does not interact with the tables. In such an intimate tasting-menu setting, I did notice that separation between creator and guest.

Then comes the food.

My favorite course was the quail with jujube — absolutely delicious and beautifully unexpected. The fried bread was my second favorite: something seemingly simple transformed into one of the evening’s most memorable bites.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was mesquite as dessert. I had always associated mesquite with smoking meat, yet here it became slightly sweet, aromatic, powerful, and almost vanilla-like.

Could mesquite become the new vanilla? 😄

That is when a tasting menu becomes exciting: when a chef takes an ingredient you thought you understood and makes you reconsider it.

Working with Sonoran Desert ingredients is also a fascinating challenge. Cactus is not exactly foie gras or truffle. Turning humble regional ingredients into fine dining requires imagination, and while not every experiment reached the same height for me, several were genuinely excellent.

The meat course was more challenging for my husband, who is a fairly traditional American eater. I enjoyed it, but it definitely required an open mind.

Portions are small, as expected with this style of tasting menu. I finished perfectly satisfied.

My husband had a slightly different interpretation of “satisfied,” because afterward we stopped at Starbucks so he could supplement his tasting-menu experience with egg bites. 😂

Overall, I believe URSA is worth the price and is doing something genuinely interesting in Tucson. I don’t think it has completely reached the level of the best Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve experienced internationally, but I can clearly see the road leading there.

The talent is evident, the concept is distinctive, and most importantly, URSA already has its own point of view.

I would not be surprised to see a Michelin star or another major culinary accolade in its future.

I left asking not, “Was everything perfect?” but something far more interesting:

What will URSA become in five years?

I would very much like to return and find out.“

“This place was crazy busy, but somehow, the dude at the bar caught my respectful gesture, or desperate desire to get some to go brews and get out of dodge, and immediately drifted my way. He was courteous, incredibly helpful and got my order ready and packed and out the door in no time. I would definitely be back cause the vibe here is really chill when not on a mixer night. Even then, the crowded vibe was packed, but somehow still worked. People got in, got out, and got on their way. Efficiency at its finest and I attribute that to the staff. Great job guys! And the to go cocktails…A+!!“

“It's difficult not to order their pizzas, which are inspired. But do try because their entrees are pure comfort dressed in cozy sauces. The rigatoni con salsiccia is generous with the sausage and mushrooms and a rich pink tomato sauce that I wanted to eat like a soup. And the sauce on the pollo tallgegio beautifully complements the chicken, spinach and noodles. Save room for the rich and creamy tiramisu (brandy AND amaretto, they don't mess around.) You can always take one of their famous pizzas home to reheat for the next night's dinner!“

“Excellent bar. Could not see it.

Entered at 7pm. Eyes never adjusted, because there was nothing to adjust to.

The bartender may have been a person. Could also have been an extremely competent shadow. Tipped generously either way, out of respect for the unknown.

Sat at a bench that may have formerly been a pew. I can't be sure, I didn't bring night vision goggles.

Left two hours later than planned because I could not locate the exit and was too proud to use my phone flashlight, as that felt like cheating, or possibly illegal.

The candles themselves are lovely. The bar had four of them. The bar is not four candles large.

A man at the bar described his evening to a woman who, based on the ensuing silence, had left forty minutes earlier. He did not know. In this bar, no one knows anything. This is the appeal.

Five stars. Absolutely Sublime. Would return with a search-and-rescue team, or a friend who can echo-locate.“

“I stopped in at Sauce Pizza & Wine for dinner and ordered the broccoli cheddar pasta with chicken, and it was a great meal. The dish was full of flavor—the creamy cheddar sauce, tender broccoli, and perfectly cooked pasta all worked together really well. The chicken was cooked nicely. For how tasty and satisfying it was, the price felt very reasonable, especially considering the excellent quality of the ingredients and great taste.

The service was excellent—friendly, and attentive—which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and relaxed, making it a comfortable place to sit down and enjoy a flavorful meal.

Another nice perk is that Sauce Pizza & Wine has a loyalty program, and they offer a sign‑up bonus when you download their app. It’s a great way to get rewarded for meals you’re already enjoying. Between the flavorful pasta, fair pricing, great service, and the rewards program, this is definitely a spot I would highly recommend coming back to.“
