“Amazingly delish food, great service, would definitely go back again!“
“Great first stop on the Sunshine Coast!
After a tough ferry wait on Sunday, we made Persephone our first stop on the Sunshine Coast.
It was a beautiful day and despite a big crowd at Persephone we were able to find a shaded picnic table for five. We grabbed drinks and put in a food order. Kelly was lovely and helped with our choices. We appreciated her patience with our indecisiveness!
The Octoberfest draft and the Not-toberfest (cask) were both great brews and our friends enjoyed the hopped cider and the seltzers.
A local musician, Sean Peters, was playing a great variety of music. Especially loved hearing some John Prine and talking with Sean in between sets!
They offer a nice variety of pub fare. There is something for a variety of tastes and diet needs. We enjoyed the pretzel w/ beer cheese, smash burgers, hummus platter, fried chicken w/ spicy maple syrup and poutine and the chicken-poutine bowl. All were tasty and well prepared.
PostScript - we were early for our ferry home so stopped again for a quick drink. Imagine our surprise to have Kelly welcome us back by name! We enjoyed a sampling of different ciders along with a very enjoyable IPA. Another fun stop.
Looking forward to our next visit to the Sunshine Coast!“

“Great little place. Cozy, with very friendly service and good drip coffee. And so nice to find a place with great music for a change (soft jazz...think Ella, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, etc.). Croissants were delicious, and I'm fussy about my pastry! We've been to most of the coffee shops in Gibsons (we live here) and this is at the top of our list.“

“Decided to try out The Mad Hen on a busy weekday after a friend recommended them. Service was odd as they didn't offer the option of sitting outdoors. At least the food came out quickly (15 min). Ask for their hot sauce.
- Beachcomber's omelette ($20.00) - large portion. Omelette could have been silkier but good filling. Toast was heavy on the butter
- Jenny's crazy-good crab cake bowl ($23.00) - crab cake was tasty. Enjoyed the avocado and grilled vegetables, pickled zucchini & red onion was delightful“

“Thank you to the Team at Blackfish Pub, my husband and I had a great lunch there yesterday, Our server was charming and helpful in making our choices and when we mentioned we had a ferry to catch and short on time, her response ...no worries I can put a rush on it. We did indeed arrive at the ferry terminal in good time , unfortunately however without my iPhone. I called Blackfish Pub and again a charming individual answered my call, yes they had my phone and instantly, once I mentioned but we were inside the gates , he knew there was no way for us to turn around and pick up the phone. Perhaps not the first time this had happened, but he had the solution immediately, he would call a cab to the Pub , give the driver my phone who would meet me where walk on passengers are dropped off and that is absolutely what happened ! Service beyond expectations on all counts , yet having been up the Sunshine Coast for years , not surprised , there is something so very special about those who call the Sunshine Coast home.“

“A little bit of heaven on earth, this piece of paradise is what the coast was made for. Fruit orchards, a cottonwood grove, a dog park, and adorable ducks waddling about the pond make this an idyllic place to enjoy the cider that lives up to it.“
