“To Live For is worth driving from another country to visit! I live in the US, but make the drive frequently to enjoy their incredible baked goods, both sweet and savory. It is such a welcoming environment with incredible staff too. Highly recommend if you are anywhere near East Vancouver!“
“We had an imaging appointment next door and found this place. Such a fine establishment all around. Excellent service and great food and coffee.
Lovely ambiance and everyone was so nice and kind. They had some great cookbooks for sale for $5 and I picked one up.
We got Caprese and Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Latte.
This is a must visit place if you are around the neighborhood.“

“So delicious. I had my first glazed yeast donut since my celiac diagnosis. YUM 🤤 I have a box of other baked goods to work my way through and they look equally delicious.“

“This place is so great. The staff are all super friendly, the coffee and baked goods are tasty (priced on the higher side, but then it's a small shop), and best of all the staff seems to be quite kind to Downtown Eastside folks—which is something that matters a lot to me (especially for businesses that choose to open here.)“

“Absolutely fantastic spanakopita, the pastry is buttery and flakey, the inside creamy and tart at the same time. Service is also friendly. The place has a nice but unpretentious vibe.
Will definitely be coming here often!“

“Worst owner to deal with. She will ignore you and instead of assisting you, calls you indecisive even though you are giving her your business... Honestly, she's the worst at any customer service and doesn't take accountability. Also, the cakes are mediocre at best.“

“Delicious treat, I especially love the sweet red bean with walnuts, and the vanilla custard ones. They're not too sweet, but just the right amount. Best eaten right away while hot.
The owner is very nice and runs the store solo, but makes everything very quickly, I had to wait 8 minutes to get my order freshly made.“

“Really good flavor but I think cream ratio is a lot more than ideal. I thought it’s a nice balanced one but by the end of eating this, I took off almost 10-15% of cream otherwise I could not finish it with full of happiness.
But I love the chestnuts cream and hazelnuts on top!
I am still looking for the best balance of croissant with cream inside.
But I really love plain croissant here!!!“

“Their pastries are amazing! The Vanilla round Croissant is my fave. Now onto the donuts, don’t let the homemade aesthetic deter you from grabbing one of these on the way by, you will not regret!“

“I've been going to Bâtard for several years -- my favourite bakery in town and worth the 15 minute drive. Great bread & scones, pastry to die for, and wonderful atmosphere for a lunch. I'm more than a little suspicious by several coordinated reviews which trash the place, particularly as one of the reviews is by an owner of the new bakery which just moved in across the street ... hmmmm ...“

“As someone who is both dairy, eggs and gluten free I know how challenging it is to find baked goods that are actually delicious. I could not believe how good their bagels were and the lemon loaf. Like how are they vegan and gluten free??? Unreal.“
“Ordered a gluten-free Ferrero Rocher cake from Mayito Exquisite for Thanksgiving which was a true delight! It was incredibly moist with a rich hazelnut ganache that elevates every bite. Each slice melts in your mouth, perfectly complemented by crunchy Hazelnut and caramel accents. A must-try for anyone, gluten-free or not!“

“We ordered our wedding cake from here, and it was absolutely delicious and truly unforgettable. Helen was a joy to work with, she is very friendly and accommodating throughout the entire process. When our florist didn’t have extra flowers for the cake, Helen went above and beyond by sourcing beautiful flowers herself, which meant so much to us. The cake was very well priced, and communication and delivery were smooth and seamless from start to finish. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will definitely be returning for future cakes!“

“I liked this place! I saw it all over TikTok and just had to try it out. All the prices were so reasonable! Everything in the photos only cost me $20!
I showed up at 9:30 AM and things were just coming out of the oven, and the steamed buns had JUST finished, so the shelves were pretty empty. I think there would’ve been more selection for me to browse on the shelves if I’d waited another half hour before going. But I just asked for the specific buns I wanted (I read the labels om the empty shelves to decide which to try), and they quickly wrapped up the warm buns from the cooling rack for me to take home.
The cream in the coconut buns and sponge cake was very buttery. It’s nice spread out, but a bit overwhelming in big bites for me. The sponge cake was soooo nice and soft. I would definitely go back for another.
I also tried their red bean sesame ball and the soft rice red bean paste things (white and green things). They were good. The texture wasn’t my thing for the soft ones, so I wouldn’t go back for them, but that’s just personal taste. The cheese bun was good as well.
Now the steamed buns! First time trying these too. I loved the flavor and texture of a steamed bun! I found the ratio of bun to filling perfect for me. We got the chicken steamed bun and the BBQ pork steamed bun. They were SO good! I want to go back and try their other flavors.
There is a parkade right across the street, which is convenient if you can’t find street parking. I assume it gets busy throughout the day. We showed up early in the morning on a Sunday so it was quiet.
Definitely recommend checking them out :)“

“I have been eating at this place since the Patties were about 65 cents...not quite the prices when they opened in the late 70's but probably pretty close. As per my usual spew, yes the prices have gone up but they still taste damn good. Authentic? I have no clue. I don't think they have ever said much more than hello to me since the late 80's early 90's but I do not care. I show up for the grub.
The wacky, oversized, almost Rodney Graham meets Ron Terada conceptual art-like business card that could double up as a greeting card is a phenomenal part of the experience as is the business card disaster pin board. Realtors and electricians fighting for free ad space, pummeling and poking each other in a thumbtack fight. The faded lithograph printed Jamaica poster is dated but a welcome sight. I just wish they had the 1972 Sintra Bronte Jamaica t-shirt poster....the Usain Bolt printout just isn't doing it. On another side note, the Chalk art chalkboard may be one of the first in the city before Chalk Art started to become a thing. Not a good thing, but still a thing.
Back to the Morse code/reverse Braille coded patties. Delish. Spinach feta and Mild Beef are a guarantee. I could eat a white greasy bag of them and I do. In fact I pick up extra thick plastic bags of their Arawak Industries frozen Jamaican pucks to go!
I have never used the pop machine that sits in their establishment and I have actually never seen anyone use it in all my years there but maybe one day I will. Other than a medium freezer that sits behind the cash register, most of the action is behind the wall. I hope to hear some Dancehall or dub back there, but so far no luck.“

“The bakery has been around since my adolescence, probably longer. One of my favourite stops when in the hood 💙 Still cash only, but so worth it. I was finally able to bring my children; I knew that once they set foot in the bakery, the fragrant scent of baked goods, they would enjoy it as much as I did. They sure did, they tried the donuts and cookies. One can never go wrong with their coconut cream buns or pineapple buns. I also like to grab a bag of cinnamon rolls or raisin butter tarts for the fam.“

“I’ve bought a too good to go bag twice now. Great value for 6 dollars. The apple cinnamon bun and cinnamon roll was great when heated up (put it in the microwave for a minute, but I’m sure oven works great as well), the lemon cake (?) was okay with a cup of coffee but not my favorite. Would definitely get it again. Staff was friendly as well. Updated from previous review on 2026-01-09“

“I’ve been in here a few times and I am always delighted by their options. Everything is fresh and the range of flavours is amazing (think lemon passion fruit, peanut butter chocolate rice crispy, or rhubarb biscuits!). I popped in here a couple of Sundays ago, and as always the choices were in abundance. I was chatting with one of the staff members and she was super engaged, helping me make choices and saying about how sweet my pup was (who was tied outside). I tried to decide on treats to take home when she frantically told me, “your dog has slipped his leash”.
Here’s the part about the incredible staff. I dashed to the door to grab him so he didn’t get hit by a car and when I opened the door and he darted inside.
The wonderful team member, rather than yell at me, came to help me try to capture my menace who was running around, greeting everyone. After a few laps on a calm Sunday morning, we secured my sweet pest, but without the chance to purchase any goodies. It’s a shame because I can clearly never return due to sheer embarrassment. I’ll always have the memory of the delicious choices and remarkable staff. Thank you to that staff member, you are incredible! I hope you’re in charge.“

“We ordered an 11-inch St. Honoré cake from Fratelli Italian Bakery for a birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The presentation was beautiful, the flavor was rich and balanced, and you could really taste the quality in every bite. The staff was friendly and helpful, and you can tell they take pride in their work. Highly recommend Fratelli for any special occasion — they never disappoint!“

“I saw the sign. Or rather, the signs. And not in an M. Night Shyamalan way. But in a Blue's Clues leading you to some yummy treasure kind of way. Suffice to say, if you know, you know. And if you don't, that's what the gigantic signs are for.
Buried in Corporate Wonderland aka Park Place, a home to high powered lawyers and financial advisors, is this unheard of novelty: A Japanese Bagel Shop. Let that sink in. You've probably never considered this combination before. It's about as unlikely as With Love Meghan winning an Emmy or Meghan Markle finding any semblance of success. But I digress.
Where the Sussex Duchess is in the midst of a free falling failure, Wa Bagel is ascending in the world of niche cafés. It boasts the title of being Vancouver's first Japanese Bagel and Sandwich Shop. And I'd also like to throw in that Wa Bagel is under the Aburi Umbrella of which Miku (the extravagant Waterfront Restaurant) is also a part of. No doubt, Aburi knows how to sell Japanese Culinary Luxury.
So it's no wonder this flagship store lives in the heart of Vancouver's financial district. It's a place where people have money to burn and won't bat an eye at the $16 savory bagels. And in fact, will probably smirk at the $4.75 regular bagels.
Wa Bagel usually boasts a lineup that leads out the front doors, has amazingly efficient and super friendly staff, and carries an eclectic, albeit limited, collection of goods such as imported drinks, shredded cheese, fruit gummies, pre-made oshi salmon sushi and cream cheeses.
The Japanese influence manifests in the form of exotic bagels like Ume Bacon, Sweet Potato and Black Sesame, Mochi Matcha, and Red Bean and Cream Cheese, just to name a few.
For you less adventurous connoisseurs, don't fret. Universally familiar bagels like Apple Cinnamon (sweet as pie), Garlic Butter and Cream Cheese (to die for), and Pacific (salmon with a Japanese Twist) also share this small exclusively curated menu.
For a quiet gem of a café where Tokyo meets New York, walk the plush carpeted floors and head down the shiny steps to your Bagel Heaven.“

“Delicious and cheap Bahn Mi sandwiches!
The baguette bread is flakey, warm, and fresh. They give you a generous amount of ingredients in your sandwich with lots of chicken. I got two sandwiches for only $15 and they accept debit!“

“This is a commissary/kitchen/wholesaler not a cafe with dine in options. I ordered some boxes for gifting and they were kind enough to prepare everything for me.
Everyone said the pastries were delicious and even after a few days I just popped it in the air fryer and it still tasted very good.
I will definitely order again for bigger events in the future. 👍🏻👍🏻“

“I'm not from Vancouver, but whenever I go to Granville Island, I make a point to stop by this place. I would recommend any sweets lover to check them out.
-Fantastic service. They are very friendly and happy to make recommendations. They also (very) patiently waited while I took forever to choose what I wanted (sorry about that)
-I love the macarons. So many out there just taste like straight sugar, but these flavours actually live up to their names. With each bite, they all have the airy, slightly crisp texture that melts into gooey goodness.
-Samples. They're very generous with their samples (a whole macaron..!), and honestly this is how I stumbled upon them in the first place.“
