“We had an imaging appointment next door and found this place. Such a fine establishment all around. Excellent service and great food and coffee.
Lovely ambiance and everyone was so nice and kind. They had some great cookbooks for sale for $5 and I picked one up.
We got Caprese and Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Latte.
This is a must visit place if you are around the neighborhood.“

“To Live For is worth driving from another country to visit! I live in the US, but make the drive frequently to enjoy their incredible baked goods, both sweet and savory. It is such a welcoming environment with incredible staff too. Highly recommend if you are anywhere near East Vancouver!“

“So delicious. I had my first glazed yeast donut since my celiac diagnosis. YUM 🤤 I have a box of other baked goods to work my way through and they look equally delicious.“

“This place is so great. The staff are all super friendly, the coffee and baked goods are tasty (priced on the higher side, but then it's a small shop), and best of all the staff seems to be quite kind to Downtown Eastside folks—which is something that matters a lot to me (especially for businesses that choose to open here.)“

“Owner is amazing and staff is excellent. Love the baked goods and bread especially the Croissants! This is a delightful bakery that is open from Thursday to Sundays and offers online and delivery services plus Merci is at the farmers markets. Best of all some of the bakery items are in the frozen section of Stongs Market and Gourmet Warehouse.“

“Their pastries are amazing! The Vanilla round Croissant is my fave. Now onto the donuts, don’t let the homemade aesthetic deter you from grabbing one of these on the way by, you will not regret!“

“I have been eating at this place since the Patties were about 65 cents...not quite the prices when they opened in the late 70's but probably pretty close. As per my usual spew, yes the prices have gone up but they still taste damn good. Authentic? I have no clue. I don't think they have ever said much more than hello to me since the late 80's early 90's but I do not care. I show up for the grub.
The wacky, oversized, almost Rodney Graham meets Ron Terada conceptual art-like business card that could double up as a greeting card is a phenomenal part of the experience as is the business card disaster pin board. Realtors and electricians fighting for free ad space, pummeling and poking each other in a thumbtack fight. The faded lithograph printed Jamaica poster is dated but a welcome sight. I just wish they had the 1972 Sintra Bronte Jamaica t-shirt poster....the Usain Bolt printout just isn't doing it. On another side note, the Chalk art chalkboard may be one of the first in the city before Chalk Art started to become a thing. Not a good thing, but still a thing.
Back to the Morse code/reverse Braille coded patties. Delish. Spinach feta and Mild Beef are a guarantee. I could eat a white greasy bag of them and I do. In fact I pick up extra thick plastic bags of their Arawak Industries frozen Jamaican pucks to go!
I have never used the pop machine that sits in their establishment and I have actually never seen anyone use it in all my years there but maybe one day I will. Other than a medium freezer that sits behind the cash register, most of the action is behind the wall. I hope to hear some Dancehall or dub back there, but so far no luck.“

“As someone who is both dairy, eggs and gluten free I know how challenging it is to find baked goods that are actually delicious. I could not believe how good their bagels were and the lemon loaf. Like how are they vegan and gluten free??? Unreal.“

“Sun Fresh Bakery in Vancouver's Chinatown is a popular spot for affordable and tasty Chinese pastries, dim sum, and congee. Customers praise the fresh ingredients, friendly service, and the nostalgic taste of their food, which is often compared to what their parents or grandparents would make.
It's worth noting that Sun Fresh Bakery is primarily a cash-only establishment.“

“I've been going to Bâtard for several years -- my favourite bakery in town and worth the 15 minute drive. Great bread & scones, pastry to die for, and wonderful atmosphere for a lunch. I'm more than a little suspicious by several coordinated reviews which trash the place, particularly as one of the reviews is by an owner of the new bakery which just moved in across the street ... hmmmm ...“

“A true mom & pop operation! I've loved everything I've tried -- the many kinds of baklava, their Dubai tres leches cake, their cheesecake, tarts... My goodness, what a treat! As a lover of pistachios & pastries, I'm over the moon to have this lovely bakery in the neighborhood.“

“Absolutely fantastic spanakopita, the pastry is buttery and flakey, the inside creamy and tart at the same time. Service is also friendly. The place has a nice but unpretentious vibe.
Will definitely be coming here often!“

“If you’ve never tried walnut cake, please go for their “pastry red bean” first!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 It was soooo good!!! I bought pastry, butter, whole red bean, chocolate, and matcha today, and I would said that the pastry is the best!!! And my second favorite is “whole red bean”. You can really taste the red bean, and the sweetness is lower. The third one I will recommend “chocolate”~~~~
As a matcha lover, I would said that I’m a little disappointed about their matcha cake… There was not much matcha taste..🥲
Also a suggestion for owner, for the Ang-butter flavor, if you can change the regular butter to “salted butter”, then I think it would tastes better! The salted butter might balance the sweetness of red bean paste😄😄“

“We met Behiste and Ali there, who are the owners of the coffee shop, and they were amazing people! The black tea served in slim-waisted glasses, their baklava, and pistachio cookies were delicious! Next time, definitely try another one of their pastries!“

“It was a prompt quick visit because I needed to buy French bread or baguette for a potluck lunch, I searched the bakery in the Kitsilano area and found good reviews. So I bought them, they're so fresh from the oven they smell so nice and taste so delicious I could eat the whole baguette myself with a slice of butter. A small bakery with healthy ingredients I heard. A little crowded, but maybe because people love it. We need to support local businesses like this. Next time I will try the croissant etc.“

“Worst owner to deal with. She will ignore you and instead of assisting you, calls you indecisive even though you are giving her your business... Honestly, she's the worst at any customer service and doesn't take accountability. Also, the cakes are mediocre at best.“

“Came with my mom to check out this cozy cafe. For drinks we got the iced matcha latte, the hot earl great matcha latte, and the vanilla latte. For bakery goods we got the pretzel, lemon blueberry loaf, and the chocolate cake in a box.
The place is quite small, but neatly decorated with plants and tea cups. The workers were super nice giving recommendations for popular drinks. Love that they had gluten free and milk alternatives such as coconut milk, almond milk and oak milk. Love that they’re environmentally conscious!
The matcha quality was very nice, but I liked the Vanilla Latte the most just right amount of sweetness and caffeine. The bakery goods were mostly sweet rather than savoury, I liked the pretzel the best. A bit expensive in my humble opinion. The one thing I really wished they hand were sandwiches“

“Best Italian bakery! Marco the owner goes above and beyond for his customers, and his pastries are simply the most authentic Italian pastries that you will ever find! He also customized an entire lemon cake for my lemon themed birthday in July and it left myself and the guests speechless. Customers dining at the restaurant where I celebrated my birthday were also asking where the cake was from! Highly recommend Fratelli's!“

“Delicious and cheap Bahn Mi sandwiches!

“I love the ciabatta and baguettes at Benchmark! However I may stop going there because I get embarrassed every time it's time to pay. I'm passed the pos machine and I have to chose what tip I'm supposed to pay. A couple of times I tipped but didn't feel right about it on my way out the door. Now I don't tip but feel cheap while the very pleasant and helpful staff is waiting for the pos machine back. I'm sorry but I have just been passed a few buns and if I start tipping at the bakery for such a short service then should I start tipping everywhere else that store staff just passes me something.“

“I saw the sign. Or rather, the signs. And not in an M. Night Shyamalan way. But in a Blue's Clues leading you to some yummy treasure kind of way. Suffice to say, if you know, you know. And if you don't, that's what the gigantic signs are for.
Buried in Corporate Wonderland aka Park Place, a home to high powered lawyers and financial advisors, is this unheard of novelty: A Japanese Bagel Shop. Let that sink in. You've probably never considered this combination before. It's about as unlikely as With Love Meghan winning an Emmy or Meghan Markle finding any semblance of success. But I digress.
Where the Sussex Duchess is in the midst of a free falling failure, Wa Bagel is ascending in the world of niche cafés. It boasts the title of being Vancouver's first Japanese Bagel and Sandwich Shop. And I'd also like to throw in that Wa Bagel is under the Aburi Umbrella of which Miku (the extravagant Waterfront Restaurant) is also a part of. No doubt, Aburi knows how to sell Japanese Culinary Luxury.
So it's no wonder this flagship store lives in the heart of Vancouver's financial district. It's a place where people have money to burn and won't bat an eye at the $16 savory bagels. And in fact, will probably smirk at the $4.75 regular bagels.
Wa Bagel usually boasts a lineup that leads out the front doors, has amazingly efficient and super friendly staff, and carries an eclectic, albeit limited, collection of goods such as imported drinks, shredded cheese, fruit gummies, pre-made oshi salmon sushi and cream cheeses.
The Japanese influence manifests in the form of exotic bagels like Ume Bacon, Sweet Potato and Black Sesame, Mochi Matcha, and Red Bean and Cream Cheese, just to name a few.
For you less adventurous connoisseurs, don't fret. Universally familiar bagels like Apple Cinnamon (sweet as pie), Garlic Butter and Cream Cheese (to die for), and Pacific (salmon with a Japanese Twist) also share this small exclusively curated menu.
For a quiet gem of a café where Tokyo meets New York, walk the plush carpeted floors and head down the shiny steps to your Bagel Heaven.“

“some of the nicest workers i've come across in vancouver lately and it's more bakery than cafe but both hold up pretty well; the ice latte surprised me, dense and not that sad watered-down stuff most spots hand you. the outrageous brownie was more sea-salt brownie though: salty but hefty and very fudgy that's worth the extra buck.“
“Ordered a gluten-free Ferrero Rocher cake from Mayito Exquisite for Thanksgiving which was a true delight! It was incredibly moist with a rich hazelnut ganache that elevates every bite. Each slice melts in your mouth, perfectly complemented by crunchy Hazelnut and caramel accents. A must-try for anyone, gluten-free or not!“

“If I had an option, I would give 10 stars to Helen and hubby team.
Such a sumptuous strawberry mousse cake. The texture of the sponge cake was meltingly soft. Fresh sweet tangy strawberries were a cherry on the pie. Not to forget the surprise stuffing of pineapple that gave an exotic touch to the cake.
Helen’s suggestion, especially knowing how yummy the cake is gonna be, was so close to perfect. If I had ordered even an inch smaller, we all would be left craving for more.
Last but not the least, Mr. Yan is incredible not just with preparing such amazing cakes but he is also writes beautifully on the cakes. His handwriting on the cakes is not a skill in English or chinese languages only, but also he did an amazing job writing those in an Indian language…!! Helen was very patiently, rather enthusiastically involved in sending me a sample picture of the writing to make sure I like it before they finalize it.
From now on whether big or small, our cakes are only coming from Yan Bakery. 💕🎂“

“I visited this bakery a few times during my travels to Vancouver, and everything was always fresh and absolutely delicious! 😍 My favourites were the Cremes and cheesecake: so rich, creamy, and perfectly made 🥹🥰
And the Kürtöskalács (chimney cake)?
Just like the ones from my hometown in Transylvania. Quality check done! amazing taste, and texture! If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend it 🤩
They also have a cute little terrace out front and a few tables inside, perfect for enjoying your treats on the spot. I actually forgot to leave a review back then, but came across their Instagram and had to share how much I loved it. Unfortunately I just found one picture. A must-visit for authentic, fresh baked goods in Vancouver! 🙌“
