“Dress nicely and drop in for happy hour before it gets too busy. I had a wet martini, nicely prepared, and an imported draft beer from Oregon. Didn’t stay for food because of a prior commitment, but it’s on my list for a follow-up visit.
Wheelchair accessibility: I went down stairs to get there from the street entrance, perhaps there’s an elevator since it’s connected to the Georgia Hotel?“

“Not your typical Dim Sum. And I think for the better! Service was excellent, very attentive wait staff. Food was as on point, even my wife who struggles with most traditional Chinese food dishes really enjoyed the food. I've had lots of dim sum and this is without a doubt some of the very best I've had. I did miss a couple of my favourite dishes such as luobogao (turnip cake) but the taro scallop balls made up for it! Ambiance is obviously not going to be the same as a great big Chinese restaurant but I loved the hole in the wall vibe, simple decor and focus on great food. This place is definitely on my short list of places to go when we're back in Vancouver again in the future.“

“Rude server - My wife's first experience going out after giving birth. The male server peaked over her shoulder while she paid and made a rude comment when he saw she tipped 'only' 15% on a $20 cocktail. Completely ruined her night. Train your staff better.“

“My friend and I were just killing some time before an event and decided to check out this place. We had some wine and the warm cauliflower dip. It was delicious! It's one of my favorite things now. Great wine too. Reasonable prices. I will definitely be going back to try the charcuterie plates.“

“We visited The Magnet on West Pender in Vancouver last night. It's owned by the same folks that run Brassneck Brewery (on Main, very decent beers) and the Alibi Room (on Alexander, great beer list, best veggie burger in town, great location). We've heard good things from friends and checked it out for their beer list which is vast and great choices (only BC beers these days as everywhere but excellent selection). They have slow pours for some of the pilsners and a side pull for others for a denser, creamier foam. Staff is very knowledgable about the beers and about the short but mighty natural wine list as well. The real surprise for us was the food though. We had heard good things about their pies (English Pork Pie, daily choices) and charcuterie board but as vegetarians we opted for the Grilled Carrots with Spiced Orange Glaze, Chana Dal, Spinach, Cilantro & Cashew Lemon Cream, served with Fried Flat Bread and the Whipped Feta & Olive Dip, Grilled Zucchini, Warm Balsamic Shallot Dressing & Housemade Olive Focaccia. We were majorly impressed by the presentation and taste of both. The warm balsamic shallot dressing was divine. SO GOOD. Everything fresh, on point and so delish. Highly recommend checking this place out when you are in downtown Vancouver.“

“Guu Izakaya is a popular chain of Japanese pubs (izakayas) in Vancouver known for its lively atmosphere, delicious and authentic food, and friendly service. Customers consistently praise the quality and taste of the dishes, especially the fried chicken, yaki udon, and beef tongue with garlic sauce.
This place is lively and full of energy. From the moment you are escorted to your seats, the whole staff greets you in Japanese. They have the usual menu and a weekly special menu.
My favourite spot to sit is right up at the counter where you can see the cooks do their dishes. It’s literally a dinner and a show. It’s much more enjoyable.
This location has been here for many years and is well known and established. They are well respected and is a heavyweight contender in the izakya scene. This place is my top place to eat in Vancouver. I’ve had many meals here and many memorable moments.“
