“I came in last Friday while trying to explore bars in Oakland, and think I may have found my favorite bar of the area.

The atmosphere is dark, comfortable, subdued- perfect for lounging and conversation. The service is friendly and professional. I can't speak to the quality of the music and listening equipment, as I didn't interact with that on my visit, but I have heard it is excellent. What really made me love this place, though, was the quality and creativity of the cocktails.

When I go out for drinks, above all, I like to try new things. The drinks on offer at Bar Shiru were this and more: unexpected twists on classic recipes and fantastic original creations. Ingredients I never though could work together were paired incredibly well, with a delicious balance I didn't think possible. My favorite was a variation on a manhattan, with dry vermouth and fernet among the components--and I could taste the best notes of all of these ingredients together in a wonderfully smooth and unique finish. The bartending staff who developed these drinks are exceptional. I only regret that I couldn't try the whole menu--all of which looked fantastic--which means I'll just have to come back.

The place is just a stones throw from UC Berkely but it has a chill cocktail lounge asthetic. Also it is pet friendly! Bring the frenchie and enjoy a drink with some popcorn!“

“The ambiance is A1. Really appreciate the change of pace and the attention to detail/aesthetic. As far as food and drinks we did the wings and lamb which was pretty good and the fries (elite) and broccolini.

Drinks were tasty as well.

“This is a lovely little wine bar! Excellent selection, and the owner was kind enough to put together a little charcuterie board for one person (although the normal size serves 2-3).

I highly recommend stopping by for a glass and a nibble if you’re shopping in the area - very relaxing space.“

We tried the Melo Ginger, Melo Chai, Melo Chocolate and Midnight Mystic. All with a “riptide” added and a hybrid of both kava strains. They were all exceptional and unique. They make your tongue numb after a couple sips. Very fun experience with great music. The space is very welcoming. Couches or bar seating. They have an entire wall that is live plants.“

“My first visit to Berkeley City Club for afternoon tea at Julia's and I am smitten! Gorgeous room in a gorgeous building designed by Julia Morgan. Easily accessible by a short walk from Downtown Berkeley BART. The tea sandwiches and sweets were filling and my Earl Grey tea was wonderfully robust. I would love to return to Julia's for another dining experience. I'll be doing my research to see if they do any holiday themed menus/events.“

“My experience at D.Monaghans on the hill was very good I must say! The brunch we had for mother's day was great!!! Oh my plate I had an omelette that you can build your own omelette menu I put all vegetables in my omelette with a side of turkey sausage any black cup of coffee also I had a bowl of shrimp and grits they were delicious so don't sleep on this place. Also my family enjoyed the food as much as I did even my grandson couldn't stop eating the great food. The dinner menu have a vast amount of great meals on it and there a great bar with good drinks and IPA!!!“

“I was able to experience this bar during a sponsored Hennessy Bar Crawl during the week of Juneteenth. The event was presented as a fundraiser for black Joy which I love to participate in. I love the service of the bartender's and the overall bar experience was a vibe. It was a very modern but classic feel. All of the people were very friendly and the bartenders knew how to mix a drink right. This is definitely a place I will venture to again as this bar is tucked away in Downtown Oakland but once you're inside you definitely feel the love.“
