“We did the four course tasting menu and every course was excellently prepared and exquisitely presented. There are choices for each course so each of us ordered different items so that we could taste everything on the menu. Such interesting items like fir needle ice cream. This is now out favorite restaurant in Truckee and look forward to visiting on future trips to the area. We had high expectations and Trokay exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Trokay!”

“Today I visited the Smoke Door Sanryo for lunch with my friend Isao Yoshikawa, the father of the new chef Kosuke Yoshikawa. All I can say is this was a truly wonderful experience with each course in the set lunch menu delivering uniquely superb taste that was delicately balanced with sauces that were extremely delicious. This is fine dining that shouldn’t be missed if you’re in the Kings Beach area of Lake Tahoe.”

“I went to Cloud Sushi a couple of days ago with my family. They have a cute outdoor setup, and since it was a beautiful day, we got to sit outside on the benches.
We ordered at the window and I was very specific about needing my food to be gluten free. Unfortunately, I noticed immediately my food contained gluten before I ate it and alerted staff. However, the chef came out and rectified the issue quickly, which I really appreciated. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our visit!

The rolls i ordered were fine, and my partner and dad got the chef’s choice boxes, which they enjoyed. The prices were reasonable, and overall I appreciated the friendly service and the effort to fix the gluten-free issue.”

“Went to visit Cafe Lupine, at the suggestion of a friend and it was such a great experience. The atmosphere is extremely Inviting, the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. There are comfy places and little nooks to sit, with padded cushions but also a beautiful outdoor patio area with nice seating and beautiful views of nature. I was on my way to volunteer at the Humane Society so one of my favorite ‘perks’ (pun intended) was Sophia, the friendly staff dog, who chills on the patio and greets you with a happy little tail wag, to let you know that she is so happy that you have decided to visit her home away from home and take a little break from all of life’s worries, agendas and everything else that can wait, while you take some time to relax and reset. Highly recommend stopping by to enjoy a coffee, matcha or one of their delicious pastries. You’ll be happy that you did. ♥️”

“This small restaurant is tucked in a corner of building along with other restaurants. There were only few tables to enjoy the meal. We ordered right away at the cashier and the food came out fairly quick and still piping hot!

- 5 wings with K-sauce: the wing pieces were big! The coating was very crispy and the meat was flavorful and tender. The K-sauce was good and slightly spicy.
- 7 tenders with soy garlic sauce: the tender pieces were huge! The coating was crispy and the meat was tender. The soy garlic sauce was good but I wish that it was more evenly distributed as most of it was at the bottom of the box.
- large crinkle cut fries with honey butter: the fries were good and crispy. The honey butter powder was sweet and buttery.”

“The food was good overall, but it fell short of expectations. I love the eclectic combinations, and the ingredients were high quality. The scallops and Mac n cheese were elite. The tuna tartare and ribs were very good. The halibut and butter lettuce salad were ordinary. The cookies and cream sandwiches were offensive given the level of the restaurant. It felt like something out of a grocery carton, and ultimately pushed me to give a 4-rating.

“Let me first begin by saying the waitstaff is incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly. Furthermore, the atmosphere—outside in particular—is just lovely, especially when they have live music; it’s set amidst the Truckee River with heat lamps and a fire pit to keep you toasty and this gem is easily accessible from a bike path no less. Should you order the Strawberry Shortcake, it is enormous and delicious. For these reasons alone, the River Grill should receive 5 stars. The reasons it does not, though they won’t dissuade me from returning, are to follow. I ordered the Grape Martini—unique, intriguing, and my waitstaff gave it a good name. It was good I must say, but it, as one could expect but at the same time not really think to, tastes exactly like grape juice. I did initially have to send it back because it came garnished with cranberries (of which I am allergic) instead of frozen grapes as advertised. You could imagine my chuckle when I watched my waiter, from afar at my table, present it to the hostess and I watched her fish one of the cranberries out of the drink, plop it in her mouth, and hurry away disgusted. They remade my drink which was kind of them but it did take acquiring the taste to not think of Arthur on a Juicy Juice carton. For dinner I ordered the Beef Tenderloin—the asparagus was amazing, the whipped (mashed) potatoes were yummy especially with the Demi Glaze, and the beef itself was good but more on the medium-well side when ordered medium which is kind of getting into semantics I know, however, it was a little dry. I also ordered the Truckee Sourdough but it never came despite being charged for it until brought to attention. For a 20-something who doesn’t have $100 to spend on a fancy dinner often, this combination can feel a little disappointing. Should I have the opportunity to, I would come back to River Grill because it, overall, was a lovely evening.”
