“After our Altadena house burned down, we relocated to Barker Block and absolutely love being so close to Manuela. We used to have a fire table like yours, so dining here always carries a sense of home. Last night we brought friends, and they said, ‘This makes it hard to go out to eat in Monrovia—our restaurants cut corners with cheap ingredients and fast turnover.’ What your chefs create is the opposite: dishes with not just incredible flavor but extraordinary texture and detail. Their expertise is off the charts, and I highly recommend.“

Humble little hope in the wall run by a husband and wife team. Dude went to Korea to study with the most famous vegan nun chef in Korea. The butter is made in-house. The kale salad was soo good. The clams and mussels were in a very delicious sauce. We will be back!“

“I had an interesting experience because I had my mind set on trying plates I witnessed from previous reviews however much of it I didnt get to try because of seasonal changes. With that, I ended up getting the Salmon dish for entree, ceviche for app and the chocoflan for desert. It was all fabulous.“

“The asparagus fries. Crispy & not greasy. You can appreciate the asparagus flavor. We split the Thai spicy salad. It was spicy, but the Thai basil & the peanut dressing were the stars. It didn't need the chicken. The best was the ribeye melt. The meat was cooked perfectly.The sourdough was crusted with parmesan. With a side of horseradish that was perfectly paired for this sandwich.“

“I grew up in this area 68 years ago and now live out of State. My family has a nearby home. While visiting, we stumbled on the Heights and they are the bomb! 5 stars hands down! They have excellent sandwiches among other great dishes. The sandwich rolls are the most delicious crispy French bread you ever had! They don't skimp on the sandwich contents no matter which one you choose. Oscar provides outstanding counter service and even let's me change out a few ingredients at no additional charge! Ignore any line, this place is worth any wait.
I would post my sandwich but it was so good I already finished it.“

Cocktails were fun, we had great wine, and the food - especially the fries, and the olives! and the steak for two, which we ordered for the table - was delicious :) Also the whole staff was warm and welcoming, and made the whole thing even more fun. “Our server Laura was very pleasant and attentive. We came in on Father's Day which is busy everywhere. Parking lot full and there was a line when we went inside, but it went by fairly quickly. We were seated within 10 minutes time. Food was fresh, salad bar stocked, and ice cream available. Happy with the location for years and will be back.“

“Oh yes. My wife and I have passed this place many times when visiting the adjacent Flower market in DTLA - and it was always busy. After we had all our flowery-needs yesterday I asked my wife to Yelp "best breakfast in DTLA" and it popped up - the Poppy & Rose - and we were standing in front of it. I must say two things: I did not find the ambiance too appealing and they you could hear through the open door it was extremely loud. Still, we gave it a try - and I can tell you: it was delicious. Our server - one you would describe as the typical California surfer boy - was extremely charming - so despite the so-so ambiance (the vibe of this place was great though) and the noise we will definitely go again. Would we make a 30+ min detour just to eat here (mandatory in my rating scheme to achieve five out five): again, oh yes!“
