The orange glazed cake donut was bright and citrusy, and the blueberry was tender and flavorful. We also ordered a burrito and the Denver omelet. Burrito was quite large, although the sausage was breakfast links, not crumbled.“

“I’m from SC. I wanted to surf fish while here and brought a rod/reel with me on the plane. I’m here for 5 days total. On day 1 I wanted to try a local doughnut. I saw they had gluten free. I don’t need it but my kids do. I bought some from a dude in a flannel shirt. I thought it weird, but it’s California so whatever. I got them back to the place we were staying and we all sampled about six different doughnuts. 🤯 OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I’m a Krispy Kreme lifer but DANG THESE ARE GOOD. Today I went back and bought 6 more. These are expensive so there went my fishing budget but it’s worth it because my kids and enlaws loved it. My father enlaw said the maple bacon should be illegal it’s so good. Listen there are a lot of choices here but if you are going to try just 1 or several this should be your first stop and if like me it will be the only one you need. “Royal Donuts in Mission Viejo is one of those classic local donut shops that reminds you why small neighborhood spots still beat the big chains. The selection is excellent. You have all the classics you expect like glazed, chocolate frosted, maple bars, old fashioned, and jelly filled, but everything tastes noticeably fresher than the average donut shop. The glazed donuts have that perfect light texture where the outside has just enough sweetness without being overwhelming, and the inside stays soft and fluffy. The maple bars are especially good and are generously sized. One donut can honestly hold you over for quite a while.

Another thing I noticed is the consistency. A lot of donut shops are good early in the morning but fall off later in the day. Royal Donuts seems to keep a solid rotation going so you are not getting something that has been sitting around for hours. The donuts still taste fresh even later in the morning.

The staff has always been friendly and quick, even when there is a small line. They move people through efficiently without making you feel rushed. The shop itself is clean, simple, and exactly what you want from a neighborhood donut place. Nothing fancy, just good donuts done right.

Prices are also very reasonable compared to a lot of places now charging premium prices for basic donuts. Here you still feel like you are getting great value for what you pay.

The staff were friendly and accommodating however the breakfast burrito was not the best - lack of egg and needing a crispy element. The breakfast taco was really good though - potato and bacon (crispy) instead of egg.“

“Great donuts and kind employees. When I go here, it's usually at 5am right when they open and I pick up a dozen donuts, some muffins, and often a ham and cheese croissant. The donuts are always fresh and still coming out, and the croissants are fresh and hot. Their old fashion glaze, old fashion maple, and powdered cake donuts are my favorites 👍. “Please come here and try the Salvadoran food. Service was great and the donuts were good but the real reason to come here is the other food items available.

My tip: Always go with their longest length sandwich. I go with either pastrami, egg, or veggie sandwich -depending on the mood and always with everything on it.
