Absolutely Exceptional – A Must-Visit in Del Mar
Monarch Ocean Pub exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. The open-air setting overlooking the street gives the perfect mix of energy and ease — you feel part of the buzz of Del Mar while enjoying a relaxed, elegant meal.
Our server, Bo, was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely delightful to talk with (we even discovered she went to Indiana University, which made it feel like a small-world connection!).
Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor — from the fresh oysters and crisp Caesar salad to the soft Parker House rolls, the shrimp and lobster sliders, and the finale of melt-in-your-mouth Hawaiian donuts. Each bite was perfection.

“It’s our annual place to be every August for the last 17 years: celebrating 50 years of marriage! The food, service and atmosphere right on the beach is heavenly. Our bartender Steve congratulated us and we talked for a short time. Everyone is so friendly, can’t beat the quality of their meals ! We drive out from Phoenix to have their specialty. Well worth the ride❤️❤️❤️“

“Wonderful bar in the Hotel L’Aubarge in Del Mar. Bartenders Blake and Leo are awesome but all who work there are awesome. Great vegetable crudités that looks like you are pulling vegies out of a garden but taste delicious (just don’t eat the stems, they are a little bitter) ? Live music, amazing views especially at sunset. Thank you as always

“I understand mistakes happen. I usually eat at this restaurant once a week after my late shift around 2/3 a.m. I noticed the quality of food got really bad. My meal was simple—a single patty cheeseburger with nothing on it. The first mess-up was the fries—they were burnt. Then the second mess-up: a burnt burger. Like, crispy burnt. Then my last and final straw—they served me a moldy burger that I thought was flour. Even my friends saw it and agreed after I sent them a picture. I ended up in the hospital. I called the manager, and he didn’t even offer a refund—said I was lying. I told him I’d send proof, and then he said no and hung up in my face. Not only is the manager rude and disrespectful, he cares little for his kitchen’s mistakes—and it cost me a day in the hospital. Cost me the only day I have with my son. All because his chefs are lazy and don’t care what they serve.“
