We go there for smash burgers mostly. I definitely haven't eaten every one, but of all the smash burgers I've had all over the city, Fat Sal's is to me the best. Lacey and crispy around the edge, American cheese as God intended on a smashburger, good bun and you can add lettuce and tomato if you want. Sometimes we'll get a loaded side of fries as well. The menu is full of delicious sounding, but a little over the top combinations of things piled up on a smashburger or a sandwich. I'd love to try them, but the regular smashburger is so delicious. They have a pastrami smashburger on the menu, but it has chicken tenders and a bunch of other stuff on it as well. I don't want all of that, I want a smashburger with griddled pastrami added to it, maybe some Swiss. The regular smashburger, maybe with an extra Patty added is the go-to for both of us.
The staff working there all knows and recognizes us. They're very friendly, and very customer service oriented. They always want to make sure we have everything we need and that we're taken care of, they'll swing by the counter where we're eating to see if we need any more ketchup, napkins, etc. It's really next-level service for this kind of a fast casual. Lots of TVs up high on the walls showing whatever sports is on, plus a Fat Sal's Venice Beach skater video running on a loop. Recommend if you like a delicious smashburger in a cool low-key environment with great service. And who doesn't?“

“Best Italian deli and market in southern California. Extremely authentic and high quality foods. Any kind of Italian food you can think of they have. Went in for a sub and left with two of them. If you’re ordering a sub make sure you grab a ticket at the counter because they will call the numbers based on whose turn it is to order. Gotta check out the market as well. I recommend their signature sub the godmother but both were wicked good.“

“We were going to be stuck in traffic anyway so we figured we might as well take the time to get good food on Sunset Blvd, and it was worth it. They let me pay to upgrade the Vienna hot dog fries to chili cheese fries, and my wife's pastrami was awesome, as everyone already knows.“

Budget lunch options in Sawtelle are hard to come by. At NY Bagel and Deli, you can get a good old fashion new york style bagel for less than $10 (including an add on and the egg surcharge). Their bagels seemed to be made in house. I found their everything bagel to be delicious! It was very filling as well.

I came later around 1pm and they ran out of hashbrowns. Hoping they have hashbrowns the next time I visit!“

“I stopped in here for the first time today and am very happy I did! I am from New York where we always stopped at Katz. I would say they are a tad bit over priced, but we are in Cali, not much to expect lol. They made it up by how well my bagel was made and how much my partner enjoyed their Ruben. I do think the Super Ruben had a great amount of meat on it and was prepared very well ! I think this was a well worth stop, and if we were ever in a sandwich mood again, I would order here !

First time coming here from an appointment next door was looking for something to eat but owner are so nice told me there special and tried the shrimp and chicken spicy soup would take a picture but I ate it all.“

I had the Honeybaked Feast with generous slices of sweet Honeybaked ham with pineapple and hickory honey mustard, a Hawaiian King bread roll and a choice of one side. The best! Their French toast is made of Hawaiian Kings bread too. Amazing!“

“WOW! If you are from LA or visiting LA this is a MUST! My dad has been eating here for 40 years and called me to meet him for lunch yesterday at Fromin’s! I work less than 10 mins away and dad asked if he could order for me, so I arrived and a Open Faced Hot Turkey Sandwich was put on the table the second I walked in by a Older bald gentleman who had personality and character that was so warming… he made me smile and like I belonged! The Hot Turkey Sandwich was smothered in Gravy, not too much but not too little, perfect! I had a nice big helping of Mashed Potatoes on the side smothered in Turkey Gravy which was OMG good! I can not say enough about how amazing the Turkey was! I had a side of fresh fruit which was also plentiful… and it didn’t disappoint either, all the fruit was fresh cut and super sweet! I would eat here every single day if I could, do not let the prices scare you…when it comes to good food in LA, anyone should understand to turn a profit you have to charge. I believe that hot turkey sandwich was about $27 but like I said I would eat it every single day if I could!
To top it all off when I was leaving I met one of the owners which was a lady who said she owned this place for 40 years as well! She was super nice, but I could tell she was all about business as she should be!
I just wanted to make sure I reviewed this place because it isn’t very often you find a special place like this… and when I find a special place I like to review it and make it known because I want it to stay open forever! Don’t think about it, JUST GO AND TRUST ME! I’m 260 pounds for a reason, I like to eat!!!! A huge plus for me as well was knowing this place is the Definition of Kosher! Everything is fresh! It was a Privilege to eat here and I deeply disrespect any person who says otherwise!“

“The description of Ike's to me made it sound like Fat Sal's and I was excited. Truth of the matter is Ike's holds its own, and it didn't disappoint. It has a great menu mixed with Meat and Veggie options. The Mrs. and I split and highly recommend the Captain Carl and the Meatless Mike (I concur "best vegan meatball in America", and Our 3 y/o gives the grilled cheese 👍👍. Our 9y/o swears it was the best grilled cheese she ever had.“

“One of the best Jewish Deli around. It is an institution. Has a great bakery and Deli meats to go. Our favorite thing to start our meal is the half chicken in a pot with extra Matzah Balls for the leftover soup to bring home for another day. I love the dresser sandwich and make sure to ask for their yummy pickles with it. If they have them I like to buy a bag of bagel chips to take home for the leftover soup. The have magnificent hamtashins, great carrot cake, fantastic chocolate dipped macaroons. The list goes on and on. My wife loves their Monte Cristo sandwich. It is always a special treat to go to Canters in the Fairfax area of LA. I feel like I am going back to my grandma's house force meal. My wife is not Jewish and she loves this place. The waiters and waitresses work very hard to make you feel special!“

Try the Kievski tort if you want something authentic (it’s a Ukrainian-style cake that’s made with nuts and a little drier than American types). For all the people crying because it doesn’t only have Ukrainian products, most stores are Slavic stores with a mix from different countries. So no, you’re never going to find a store that’s only Ukrainian or only Russian because people in those regions eat similar things. Take your politics elsewhere instead of trying to bring down a small business with your narcissistic virtue signaling.“
