“I would recomend to come here for a view, ambience, and meet up. For food, it’s okay but not special considering their price point. Fresh catch halibut might not fresh at all cos it’s a bit fishy and it’s over cooked and it’s pricey for its quality. Lobster was better tho, juicy and fresh. The rest were so so. Calamary was plain and not crunchy on the outside and not hot when served. Clam chowder, well … just ok and too much potato in it. Battered fish and shrimp were slightly better if you eat it with avocado ranch. I loved the place, the pond was beautiful, and friendly staffs.“

“Came in on a whim around midnight with a few friends after closing my bar. The bartender was very sweet and made us some pretty decent shots. The draft beers were ice cold and priced well. Quite a few people for a week night. We shot some pool and stayed till last call. I hadn’t been there in over 15 years. Completely forgot what a great dive bar it was and has always been. I’ll definitely be coming back more often.“

“Great service and a mixture of up scale and simple dishes. The menu is great and the bar has a good selection. Plenty of space in and out. So seating is not an issue. I Had a well cooked dish, but it was salty. My friend ordered the same and it was too. They took care of it and re-ordered. The 2nd day my food was perfect. Rations are big compared to other restaurant in the area. It’s a great experience and has a decent schedule for those staying at the hotel. Will comeback to upgrade this to a 5 stars.“

“We were in downtown San Diego yesterday for a bachelor party with 19 of us, and the night completely changed thanks to the guy outside. A tall, tattooed gentleman approached us, super friendly, confident, and genuinely engaging. We were actually headed to another spot, but he had such good energy and made us feel so welcome that he convinced us to give his bar a shot. Best decision we made all night.

He personally hooked us up with champagne bottles and great drink deals (we ended up spending a lot of money there), you could tell he was single handedly packing the place with his hustle. I’d been to this bar a few months back and it was pretty dead, but last night it was buzzing, clearly because of him.

Huge shoutout to him for making the night unforgettable, and props to the bearded bartender and the blonde bartender as well, they kept the vibe going strong. Thanks for an epic night!

The pool league keeps things lively, the bartenders keep things relaxed, and the regulars create a sense of belonging that feels almost immediate.

After working in another gay bar in this neighborhood for over two decades, returning to SRO was surreal in the best way — I recognized faces I hadn’t seen in years. That kind of continuity is rare. It tells you everything about the heart of this place: people come back, and they stay connected.

If you’re looking for velvet ropes or curated aesthetics, this isn’t that bar. But if you want authenticity, comfort, laughter, and a place with a heartbeat — SRO is the kind of spot that becomes home without you even trying.

“Stayed for a week at Hotel Republic. Trade restaurant is right next to the reception area inside the hotel. The hotel charges a daily 25$ fee and one of the perks from that is you can eat either at this restaurant or Topside on the floor above, with 25$ daily refund, even the morning you checkout - just need to charge it to your room. I was always having proper meals outside, but showed up 4 times during my stay here just to get something extra. Really liked their soup of the day - it was creamy potato the night I went. The steak fries plate is very oily and a huge size too. The breakfast burrito was okay. The hummus was really good. The staff are all very friendly.“

I cane to this dive bar expecting nothing. It is the epitome of a dive but what I was met with were charismatic locals and bartenders eager to please. I HAVE to single out one bartender in particular, her name is Pisces. I'm a San Diego native and had the best Martini I ever had in SD here!! Yea..im not a drug addict you heard (read) me correctly. I asked for a slightly dirty gin martini and got EXACTLY that. It wasn't swimming in vermouth or overly salty from the olive she got the proportions perfect. I took a sip and thought I was sitting in a speakeasy in SF, and yes I use to live there so I know what I'm talking about. Somebody come and get her...I told her after my fist sip she should not be working here. 10/10!“

“Having walked to the end of the promenade we called in to the Hilton and asked at the restaurant where the best place to order a drink would be. We were directed to the Pool Bar – a delightful area outside with comfortable seating. We ordered iced tea and when we asked for the bill we were told that there was no charge. Most impressive.“

“This is my favorite spot to eat, drink, and dance in San Diego. I’ve had mixed experiences here due to how packed it gets. I think they could improve on how they treat customers who throw down $700 on food and give them better treatment and access to the nightclub. It was my birthday and after we spent $700 upstairs on food and we would have likely spent another $500 on drinks in the nightclub. However, they made us wait for 2 hours in line for the nightclub then asked us to pay another $120 to get inside. We were so livid that we went somewhere else. If they get more organized and give bigger spending customers priority, then this wouldn’t have happened. I work as a marketing director in Los Angeles in the nightclub scene and customers like this keep the business going. Their priorities need improvement.“
