“Came around 4:30pm and avoided the dinner rush around 5:30pm! Overall, I am thankful Monterey had a nearby vegan restaurant (with so many options too) but the flavors could be improved. Nachos 3/5 nothing special. Fish tacos 2/5 not that flavorful even with the mango topping Chicken taco 3/5 ok Potato taco 5/5 best taco imo! The outer crispy layer was done nicely and the potato was nice and warm inside :) Spinach salad 5/5 simple yet so delicious! Strawberries, jicama?, and pumpkin seeds were a nice touch. Great contrast to the rest of the meal (light feeling). Special shoutout to the salad dressing (a sweet, applesauce like taste 😋)“

“This is a liquor/grocery store that sells food. Nothing special. They have a sitting area that is OK, old seats, but works.

The tacos were yummy and my boyfriend enjoyed his burrito. Decent affordable taco joint. I'll probably stop again when I need a cheap meal!

And if your a breakfast lover like myself then the breakfast burrito is always a great choice with different meat options! Did I mention it's breakfast all day?!? “Mom and pop, order at the counter type of place. I had the seafood chimichunga and it was delicious. Hot, golden, with creamy mix of tender fish and shrimp inside. 10/10!

Side note: the chimichunga was fried on a flat top, not deep fried in a frier“

“I am a local from Monterey and I've enjoyed this establishment since childhood. Their food is so tasteful and memorable. They truly integrate the Oaxacan culture into their food, keeping it as authentic as possible.

My favorite thing I love to order that I would recommend would be their chicken mole or tortas. Their pastels (cakes) are very delicious as well. Top restaurant I would personally recommend in Monterey“

The service was professional and kind but with long gaps where empty glasses were left on the table and nobody checking in. (The restaurant was not busy at the time.) “Ordered the carne asada super burrito and the chicken taquitos. Both were great and came with red and green salsas. Also ordered two kids quesadillas and they were a hit.
Next time we’ll try the taco plate and carne asada nachos.
They also serve breakfast burritos at very reasonable prices starting at 7am.

Parking: No issue with parking, large lot and easily accessible.

Kid-friendliness: Kids menu available with three options. Recommend the kids quesadillas.“

The food is served very quick, that means that the chefs are on top of the game. We requested to drain a cup and they were very kind to offer us a new one.

“Let me be clear. I do not write glowing reviews, especially for Mexican food. This is something we make at home, always better, cheaper and tastier. There are so many Mexican places out there it is hard for one to stand out. Island Tacos is a standout. I had the Mahimahi burrito and the tofu street taco. Wow, I was blown away. One of my new favorite places to eat. In Carmel at the Crossroads, go figure. Not where I would look for a place to eat, especially with Salinas and Castroville so close by. DON'T MISS THIS PLACE.“

We’ve been here tons of times, but today when we went in, the service wasn’t the same, waitress seemed upset for some reason because I asked for extra avocado & I had to ask another waitress for some chips 20 minutes later because the original waitress never asked us if we needed anything else after they brought us our food.
