“Food was delish. Only issue was bones in my halibut. Beverage Service & table busing slow at times. Had to ask a couple of times for refills. One refill was poured into the wrong glass so soda and ice tea got mixed up but it was corrected. Avocado tempura appetizer was amazing. Desserts were delicious also crème brûlée and chocolate decadent cake. Hubby filet perfect, pizza large. Will definitely go back.“

“Amigos in Portola Valley totally won me over. We went on a busy Sunday and even with the crowd, the service was quick and super friendly. The dog-friendly patio was a huge plus—such a nice spot to hang out, especially on a sunny day.

The food was great across the board. I had the chicken mole and some tacos, and both were packed with flavor. The mole had that rich, layered taste you hope for, and the tacos were super fresh. Their homemade hot sauce is seriously next level—spicy, balanced, and honestly something I’d buy if they bottled it.

The vibe was really relaxed and fun. There were a bunch of people watching the game, but it didn’t feel like a sports bar—just good energy, not too loud, and still felt like a place to enjoy a proper meal.

“Wandered in after getting disgusted by the parking situation at another nearby restaurant. Very pleasantly surprised by the attentive service, taste and quality of the food, and the availability of gluten free options. Crab cakes were really good.“

“It is rare that I would give a 5-star review to a restaurant that scores 4 on the food. However, I'm giving VK an exception. Yes, restaurants are about the food, but also the overall experience and the value.

VK has recently emerged in San Mateo and we visited for breakfast. This is not your high-end fancy breakfast place. This is a down-to-earth every day local eatery type of vibe. Of course not commercial as IHOP or Denny's and definitely a step above. It also isn't an Instagram shot type of a place. It truly exists to serve hearty food. And that's what it does.

The atmosphere again is a standard eatery. Sort of a diner, sort of a vanilla look & feel. I had the Steak Omelet and instant I could feel that this wasn't your commercial grade quality. The chef had used great ingredients and cooked it with care. Seasoned well, it was tasty. The side veggies also were done right. The pancakes were not top grade but could absolutely stand its own. The only reason why I retracted a star away was because it just missed border of being "special". Great food. Great taste. Just a bit too vanilla. Oh, and one of my pancakes still had a bit of runny batter in the middle, but that's okay.

Service was great. Coffee was bold and good, considering they brew these in pots.

All of the above, at a price point that is surprisingly equal or just slightly above IHOP.

VK's is absolutely a solid addition to the neighborhood. It isn't a place you come for. It is a place you go because you can rely on it. It is a working class, every day type of spot. And they are not shy about it. Will absolutely return.

“Great restaurant. I had a whole fish and it was absolutely delicious. Nicely decorated and great service as well. Only thing that I would like to add is the noise level, which is pretty high, but that’s part of the atmosphere of the place. 5 stars“

“The overall experience was good, the food was tasty and the flow for Omakase was decent. We added the Uni which total per person was $200. I would love it if they add a few more nigiri to the Omakase menu alone is $150 per person. Is it worth it? Maybe for special occasions.“

“Didn't want to eat the tried and tested Zareen's so I ended up here instead. Now this is good Street food! Authentic flavors, good spice level and warm service. The food prep time is definitely on the higher end, so definitely don't come here starved. We waited about 30 minutes for our food, but it was well worth it. Large portions and flavorful food.

“This is the best sushi restaurant in Palo Alto! We have been to a few of them on California Avenue, and the quality of the food and its affordability at Kanji is certainly the best among them all. We ordered the 15 pieces sashimi platter and the cut of the fish was so thick and satisfying. The sweet shrimps were also very worth it, it was so fresh and they even fry the heads for you. I'll recommend starting off with sampler and ordering anything you like as a separate dip. Street fries were also good. They have unlimited tea and the mint lemonade was super refreshing.

Service: this place has minimal interaction with servers as every table has a QR code to order food and pay when you order.

Atmosphere: divided into 3 parts outdoor, indoor and patio. Indoors is bright with open kitchen and patio is dark with plants, string lights and heaters. Sat in patio and loved the vibe.“

Hayes hooked it up for 10% discount for first time customer which was super nice. Tipped it back and more of course. Cesar was super friendly and helpful, said they make their flat bread fresh daily made to order and that I should’ve tried that. Will next time.
