“Hit up the New Nutmeg on Danielson Street in Poway. I heard their Scripps location closed because the landlord raised the rent so high it was unaffordable for them to stay there. We were a large group so we were able to order a bunch of menu items. There was a line but its a very popular place so we were not surprised. We started with some espresso drinks, and agua frescas. We had the Hearty Bowl, Avocado Toast, and Amazing Burrito. Some in our group had the new Grandpa's Breakfast Bun with the egg and spam, and the Porky. They are very flexible with special orders including one in our group who is gluten sensitive. We finished, sharing their in-house baked pastries (they have gluten-free pastries); the warmed espresso scones and cinnamon buns (don't ever leave without having the "buns"). I work in the area so Nutmeg is now my go-to for breakfast before work, or lunch. Its also located nearby Costco and Home Depot, convenient for a weekend meal before or after my weekly Costco runs.“

“The cheesecakes here are so good. Super soft, moist, and fluffy! They’re slightly sweet, which is so addicting. I love the original flavor the most. The pandan one wasn’t that good.
The strawberry burnt basque cakes is also very good. It’s better than the original one.
Parking sucks though because the shop shares a small lot with many other stores, so it’s always difficult to find parking unless you come right when they open.“

My favorite is of course the OG Salty dozen or salty minis, but the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio is a close second. The little Salty minis in a jar make for a perfect gift. “Passed by here plenty of times because of the japanese market next door. Stopped in by chance just to grab some coffee and wound up buying a slice of cake. Turns out this place is a hidden gem. Handmade cake and great espresso drinks for a much better value than you get for similar quality. A slice of handmade cake here is the same price as a cookie at panera, think about that for a second. They earned a regular customer whenever I stop by for groceries“

“Hands down the best sugar free keto bread I’ve ever tried! I got the St. James Spanish Cake for $12 at the Little Italy farmers market. It had the right amount of sweetness from the oranges and the bread was moist and soft making it the perfect combination for my morning coffee. I just got it Saturday and it is now Monday, practically gone. Time to ration for the rest of the week haha

“I LOVE this bakery. Literally such a hidden gem with the best pandesal. I go here whenever I am craving some pandan or ube pandesal. A whole tray of 10 rolls is only $5. Cash works best but it shouldn’t be a problem if you use card. Forgot to take pics of the pandesal before I ate it because it was so delicious. The butter is inside the pandesal so it makes for a nice little filling. We got 2 trays (1 pandesal, 1 ube) and it was a hit at the potluck. And only for $10!!!“

“I discovered their sourdough bread at Costco couple years ago and since then, it has become a staple at our house. It’s SO GOOD I eat a slice or two every morning with Irish butter, and as soon as I run out I go to Costco, lol.
