“We dropped a hot dog bun and they were very kind. Appreciate it dude. You know who you are 😅 We always get the egg and ham, chasiu bao, red bean bread and yam bread. The egg tarts are pretty good too. They use to be a bit more affordable but it’s a win if you can buy 6 items for under $20 these days.

We’ve been coming here since they opened. Really appreciate having an HK style bakery out here in San Mateo :)“

“Lovely bakery in downtown San Mateo. So many options. Coffee and tea as well. I think the chai was good, but not outstanding. I’m okay with that because I was there for a good pastry, and they overdelivered on that! I enjoyed the almond raspberry croissant, a mochi donut, and the pain aux raisin. Yum! My customer service experience was also good. The first person I interacted with was a normal customer-worker interaction, but the second person actually asked about my day and caught onto the fact that I am an out-of-towner via what I said and she asked about that. That’s good service! I want the owners/managers to know that the young gal with dark hair, a blue streak, and large squarish glasses is a valuable employee. I recommend this bakery and would return anytime I’m in the area. They also cater! I bet that’s awesome. They also have a cool community program called Love Baked In where they give back to the community is various ways.“

“The place is clean, the staff are all kind and always wearing a smile maybe because they are happy working with one another. The young handsome man who is their store manager has a very pleasing personality and is a people-oriented person which we love the most in this store not to mention the great tasting food and freshly baked pastries. “Absolutely love Spruce Cafe. If you want quality artisanal coffee made with care, this is the place. If you want quick burnt milk coffee, go to Starbucks.

The team here is honestly what makes it special — Amy, Julia, Caitlin, Noah, Andrea, Isa, and Alex always create such a welcoming environment. They remember my dog’s name and always offer him a treat, which says so much about the kind of experience they create for their customers.

You can tell they genuinely care about the coffee, the atmosphere, and the people coming through the door. Great drinks, warm staff, and consistently good vibes every time I come in.“

“The chocolate cream cheese cake was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!!! Simply amazing! I enjoyed the different textures and flavors that I got with each bite. I also tried the rose, raspberry, and pistachio cake which was light, refreshing, and delicious (and gluten-free), but with a different texture than the chocolate cake. Both cakes were so unique and delightful, but I especially love chocolate - and this particular chocolate cake was absolutely phenomenal!“

“This is my favorite location when I feel like getting some empanadas, pastries (mamon), or cakes (Ube flan cake). Empanadas, I usually order the chicken, beef and pork. Beef is my favorite. They came out with a spicy chicken which I haven’t tried. And recently I just bought their version of senorita bread. Will update how it is. But I always will come back when I need my empanadas fix.“

“I come here almost every other day to study. It has WiFi Outlets, and Internet. Good for long study sessions.

The Hot Chocolate is superb. I absolutely love their cheesecake. This place is great with indoor, outdoor and super inside seating (pictures attached).

The servers are warm and professional. You will see friends and elders in groups to grab quick bites and snacks. People come to do work, code, discuss books or catch up with friends. Clean washrooms.

Elder friendly and accessible. The main colors are blue, woody, white and even though seems French - it is not. Birthday cakes are popular. Kitchen seems clean and professional. Also, dog friendly and kids love the place too. ✨“

“I ordered a cake a few days ago on the website. They didn’t provide a confirmation, so I called the night before. They said they had my order, so I was relieved.

When I got there, the employee was very nice. My order was as missing a couple pastries, but she was super accommodating. It didn’t seem like they were up and running at 6. I wanted coffee, but I opted to get it somewhere else.“
