“The chicken and sausage gumbo was so good. I wished we had a giant bowl instead of just a cup. We ordered the chicken fried steak because the server told us how amazing it was and he was not wrong. The serving was huge and it was cooked to perfection. Our daughters had chicken strips which were homemade with the best light breading on them and homemade fries that were served with brown gravy. They loved them and so did we. We enjoyed a cold Coors Light after having driven most of the day and being ready to find the perfect camping spot. This place is very small, with huge flavors and such friendly staff. We arrived in town on a several day car camping trip, it was raining and we needed to eat. I read some reviews and decided this was our best option. We are so thankful we came here, highly recommend it and will certainly return when in Lake City again.”

“Go where the locals go! The Ol' 53 is the newish(?) restaurant and bar behind Sportsman's BBQ. I know their hours vary by time of year, but they're open 4-10pm every day except Tuesday in the winter. They've got a nice bar area in the old garage and a handful of tables. They've also got a free games including a pool table, arcade games, foosball and pinball. Overall a great way to spend the evening in Lake City.”

“Small place but delicious food. Owner was very personable. We ordered a Texas toast breakfast sandwich, blueberry muffin and coffee. The sandwich was plentiful and could easily be shared. Best muffin we’ve had in a long time. Great start to our Alpine loop day!”

“We've been in Lake City for 2 1/2 months and rarely ever saw this place open. Finally, we were able to try it last Friday night after someone told us that yes, they were open, and the food was good. I ordered sweet tea and the tamale dinner covered in queso ($3 extra) instead of red or green sauce. It was delicious. Some of the biggest tamales I've ever seen. The tea was very strong, but I drank it. My husband ordered water and the tamale dinner with green sauce. We were both puzzled when it came out with red sauce, but my husband likes both, so he ate it. There is one guy, presumably the owner, who does it all. He's the cook, the waiter, the cashier, etc. We were prepared to be patient, but I must admit our tamale dinners came out faster than any meal we've had in Lake City yet. The owner/waiter/et al was not friendly. He wasn't unfriendly. He just doesn't cut up or crack a smile. He seems stressed. We saw at least two groups get up and leave because he never waited on them outside on the patio. I have to assume they never saw the sign that says to place your orders inside. I think our dinners weer $17 each plus tea, plus $3 for the queso on my tamales. Very average prices for Lake City.”
