Saldamarco's Deli • $
86 E Main St, Clinton

“Was in the area, and I'm kinda hard-wired to stop in at almost any Italian deli. So I stopped. And I ordered. Sausage and pepper sub w provy (amazing how we called them "wedges" where I grew up, "heroes" in the Bronx, and "grinders" where I currently live in northern CT).The sausage and peppers were very good, the bread not so much. Maybe it was the tomatoey/olive oil base, but the sub almost fell apart while I was eating it. Am used to the more substantial italian bread that really great Italian delis feature. Maybe a cold sub would've held up better. There is a wide assortment of hot foods (meatballs, chicken cutlets, eggplant, etc), and cold cuts. Prices reasonable. Bonus for featuring Foxon sodas.3.5 stars“

“First, I don't normally like chocolate flourless cake. It tends to be dense and dry so not worth the calories. But this ...this cake...is everything. It's smooth and silky...unless you're allergic, you have to eat this. Your mouth will thank you! The cheesecake is light and whippy, and not too sweet, and the fruit are fresh and happy just sitting there on top with powdered sugar. You must eat have it!!“

Brotworkshop (Bread Bakery and Workshops) Bakery •
182 Reservoir Rd, Killingworth - 6.15 miles

“I had a great time at the Rye Sourdough baking class! I am not a stranger to sourdough but I am more of a cook and less of a baker, meaning I’ve been winging it with bread baking and wondering why my bread doesn’t come out perfectly. I learned so much at the class about temperature - of the oven, the dough and the water - and how important it is to a successful loaf of rye bread. Stefanie is a great teacher and we left with three perfect loaves of bread. I will definitely be back!“

Baguette

“Some of the best bread I have had...comparable to Hungry Ghost in Northampton and Standard Bakery in Portland ME. Not just bread, great scones, cookies and sweet rolls. We haven't had the pastas and other things but they really do use the best ingredients and take their time with their yeast and sourdough breads. A true hidden gem.“

“Just wanted to say how amazing Meriano’s is! A friend of mine, who lives out of town, wanted to send me a sweet treat after I had surgery. She contacted Meriano’s and asked if they could deliver cupcakes to me. On a very busy Friday, they went out of their way to deliver a dozen amazing cupcakes to me! Thank you for your kindness and going out of your way for me!“

Still Delicious Bakery • $$
13 Boston Post Rd, Westbrook - 2.41 miles

“I am gluten free, my husband is not, and we both love Still Delicious, which is a dedicated GF bakery in Westbrook, CT. It offers plenty of dairy free and vegan options as well. Mark is the owner and a pleasure to deal with. He is passionate about what he does and always takes the time to discuss what he makes and offers suggestions. I don't think there is anything I haven't tried there. My absolute favorites are the muffins (all varieties), the rustica baguettes, the whoopie pies, the half cookie/brownies and the mini loafs (all varieties). My husband will no longer eat regular muffins and panics when we don't have any Still Delicious muffins left in our freezer. We basically buy big batches and freeze them so we always have them on hand. He also can't get enough of the whoopie pies. That's his favorite dessert. There is always plenty of delicious baked goods available at Still Delicious but since it's a small bakery, I like pre-ordering since I always buy bigger quantities. This is not a sit down place but a typical bakery where you order and take out. Absolutely recommend trying it out! You will be hooked.“

Pepperidge Farm Bakery • $
314 Flat Rock Pl D113, Westbrook - 5.16 miles

“I love this Pepperidge Farm store. It is not very big, but it is always fun to come down here and explore all the things they have, not just their signature goldfish, but also things like Tim Tams and the Chessmen Butter Cookies (my personal favorite. It is just a cool experience. I only really go once a year since I don’t live anywhere near by (4+ hours), but when I do I enjoy coming, and the staff is always really friendly.“
