“We visited Fort Walton for the first time and I had already planned to visit this restaurant. I was so excited because of what I saw on the internet. It absolutely did not disappoint. We enjoyed the nachos & mixed drinks. The scavenger hunt was so much fun with my husband and 3 year old and the alligator show was so educational. We will definitely go back!! Oh, and we met “Henry” the 1 year old baby gator that we took a photo with!“

I’m now traveling weekly to Ft. Walton Beach for work, and on a recent trip I asked my Uber driver for local favorites for happy hour and dinner. Without hesitation, he pointed me to Marina Cafe, in nearby Destin and wow, was that a great call.

I stopped in a few times for happy hour and quickly got to know Meegan and Jamie at the bar. These two are the real deal: outstanding bartenders, warm, engaging, and always smiling.

During one happy hour, Meegan clued me in on Marina Café’s very popular BOGO hour, so when my wife joined me on my next business trip, we made reservations for 5:30 PM. We arrived early, stood in line with the locals (always a good sign), and grabbed a quick beverage at the bar. Meegan, always remembers my go-to cocktail, but also remembered what I mentioned my wife Diane enjoys. That kind of service is rare and genuinely impressive.

We shared an excellent shrimp cocktail before dinner, and Manager Troy stopped by to say hello. He’s clearly present, engaged, and invested in the guest experience. From there, we were seated and warmly greeted by our server, Ms. Michaela. She did a fantastic job explaining how the special worked, confirmed Diane’s favorite sea bass was available, and reassured me the chef absolutely knew how to prepare swordfish properly.

When I asked for a wine recommendation, Michaela collaborated with Troy, and the pairing they suggested was spot-on. Both entrées were expertly prepared, beautifully cooked and well-seasoned. This kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing.

Before heading out, we made one last stop at the bar for a late-night chocolate martini crafted by Jamie, the perfect nightcap to close out an exceptional evening.

Marina Café isn’t just a great restaurant; it’s a place that understands hospitality, consistent service and great food. Locals love it, and now so do we. If you’re in Destin and don’t go here, you’re doing it wrong.

“Loved everything about this quaint Italian cafe. Coffee, sandwiches, crepes and frittatas are absolutely delicious. Also loved getting to know Marco, who owns the Cafe. 10/10“

“We’ve been here several times during the evening hours. But our first time experience at lunch was a bit disappointing. My food came out but my wife’s calzone came much later. Our waiter was hardly checking on us for refills and never apologized or even tell us the food would come out late. (Plus no bread or their special oil.) I know it was lunch, but my highlight was the bread. I don’t know if we will come for lunch for a while, but we will give it a chance for evenings. I even wrote a note on the receipt and left my phone#. But as yet have I received a call.“

“We stayed in Destin for a week and stumbled upon this place. It’s a little rough from the outside - looks like it’s in a mobile home trailer - but don’t let that fool you. The food and service were both excellent. My daughter insisted we come back and eat at Thai Smile our last night in town. We are vegetarians and they were very polite, informative and accommodating, and remembered us when we came back. Highly recommend.“

“The Back Porch did not disappoint one bit. We loved the atmosphere. We were seated out on the back porch right in front of the gulf and had a wonderful breeze blowing the whole time, which was great since we were visiting Florida in August. We got seafood and steak. The steak was amazing and tender. The grouper, crab bites and twice baked potatoes were delicious! We will definitely be back!“

“Tried a new place for breakfast this morning. Atmosphere was excellent. Not noisy at all. There are options for seating - outside, inside and a counter area. Very clean! Staff is very friendly and very polite. The kitchen was on point - food came out very quick and was delicious. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!!“

We were seated within 30 mins for a table of 6. During the wait we played Cornhole and enjoyed a beverage from the patio bar.

For starters, their calamari is the best I’ve had in the coast, so give it a try!
We all enjoyed our meal, the portions are generous and the waiters are professional.

“Not bad pizza overall. Unfortunately they force you to get three toppings, or if you want less you still pay for three…? Most bizarre was the fact that they actually consider the mozzarella or “other cheese” as one of the three toppings??? That’s not NY, might be central FLA, which is fine. As the review started, not bad pizza but floppy especially if you order more than a topping. “Three toppings” intention actually means in ADDITION to the cheese. 12” for $22 is crazy & the gimmick of an 18” for $27 clarifies the gimmick. Order the pizza to be cooked “well done” & hopefully that should help with floppiness without burning. Enough of the pizza dissection. The small bar portion is cozy & half price HH is great! Will be back for HH, not certain for grub.“

“A hidden gem in Destin! A tiny spot with parking in the back. The atmosphere is quaint with maybe 7 tables inside and 4 tables outside. I’d imagine during peak season you’d need a reservation. Out bottle beer and champagne split was not ice cold, but that’s the only thing I’d complain about. I had the gyro platter, the meat was perfectly seasoned and served over a bed of rice. The salad was served on the same platter with a nice balsamic type dressing and plenty of feta cheese crumbles. My husband ordered the Swedish meatballs served on garlic mashed potatoes and the salad on the same platter. He did say some of meatballs were a touch overcooked but over all enjoyed the meal. We will definitely go back to try other dishes.“

“Food: This place has great food. They have daily lunch specials at a very reasonable price that includes a meat, bread and 2 sides. I typically get blackened chicken, and my wife gets the meatloaf. Both are amazing. The sides are delicious as well. We do Sunday Brunch here as well. Options are amazing, and some come with a Mimosa or Bloody Mary. Mondays are burger night… it gets packed, so plan accordingly.
Bar: The bar makes the place special. They have a great selection high end whiskeys and other spirits, as well as a great selection of the common ones. The bartenders are all well trained to make any expert level cocktail. The smoked old fashioned is on point. They also have the famous wall of beer, offering lots of local selections and unique brews from all over.

The reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the small charcuterie board was $30 and I understand the cheese is gourmet, but I still thought that was overpriced. “Hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had! We sat at the bar and were lucky enough to be taken care of by Ricky and Sheyla, both of whom were so warm, friendly, and genuinely accommodating. They made us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. I don’t personally drink, and they didn’t make it awkward or treat it like a hassle at all. Instead, they brought out an ice-cold Heineken 0.0, poured it into a chilled mug, and even added a lime wedge without me asking. It was such a thoughtful touch that made me feel included and taken care of. Ricky and Sheyla also gave us amazing food recommendations. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with charro beans, and let me just say, I’m still thinking about those beans. They were loaded with tender pieces of brisket that added such depth of flavor. The tacos came topped with a fresh mango pineapple salsa that had actual chunks of pineapple and mango, so juicy, sweet, and perfectly balanced with the fish. The queso was also super fresh and flavorful, and they made sure our chips were always topped off. The attention to detail really made the whole experience feel elevated without being pretentious. On top of all that, they took the time to chat with us and even gave us some awesome local recommendations for things to do after dinner. It’s rare to find staff who are not only great at their jobs but also so down-to-earth and genuinely kind. Highly recommend sitting at the bar if you can, Ricky and Sheyla are a dream team! We’ll definitely be coming back the next time we’re in town. An all-around fantastic vibe, incredible service, and delicious food!“

“Overall our experience was good. There were a few mistakes along the way, such as an over charge for wine and the wrong prosecco but the real issue was the sea bass. It was very fishy tasting and not at all like the melt in your mouth piece we had 5 days earlier. On the good side, the steaks were their normal out of this world delicious. “WOW. I am blown away. I used to be a regular before the remodel and when the old management owned the store, simply because I love sushi, and let me tell you…it was never a pleasant experience…between the workers, attitudes, waits, etc. Today was my first time back after the remodel and to my surprise, with new management. The staff was EXCEPTIONAL. Haley, my waitress, had the bubbliest personality and was SO happy to be there. The sushi chefs were phenomenal, friendly, and good at what they do. Tracey, the new manager of the location, took the time to speak with me and was extremely personable and kind. A complete 180 of the service I used to get. I will definitely be back, and 1000000% recommend. If you have ever had a bad experience in the past, for sure go back with the new management. You are in for a treat.
