“This is cutest place! I visited Daytona Beach for my birthday. I met some friends from out of town that rode on the plane with a guy that recommended this location. Robin and Charlotte waited on us when we visited and we had an amazing time talking with them. We ordered the lobster rolls, Caesar salad, cookies and cream gelato, and key lime pie. The food was amazing!! We’re glad that we made the trip. I’ll definitely be visiting again! If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant!!“

“Unfortunately our visit this time (we come about once per month) was subpar. The good stuff - food was excellent and our server was good. Bad stuff - we had a reservation but were made to wait 20 minutes. Your front staff seemed flustered. I have to assume the folks at the table that was promised to us stayed longer than they should have? Maybe you put folks there earlier with no reservation? That’s unclear. But what is clear is that the ability to make a reservation so we don’t have to wait keeps us coming to Sonapa. So it was a let down. I think better management of reserved tables is needed and if you seat someone without reservations at a table that is reserved for 5:45, let the party know they need to vacate by then.“

“Good service and good burgers at an affordable price. You can find less expensive but you are definitely not going to get the quality you get here. They also have options for salads, chicken, and of course you can get dessert with several options for shake and custard. If you want a quality meal at a family friendly price this is a good place to keep on your list of options.“

“My server was wonderful—attentive, friendly, and checked in on my son and me throughout our visit. The food was also excellent.

Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by the host. She seemed disengaged and neglected customers, including us. Despite seeing us arrive and calling her over, she continued cleaning tables without acknowledging us. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 15 years, and this behavior is not acceptable for a host. She didn’t smile or interact appropriately with any guests, and I observed her treating multiple customers the same way. At one point, she even yelled across the restaurant to an elderly customer instead of approaching them politely.

I mentioned the issue to my server, and the host overheard and finally adjusted her behavior—but this shouldn’t have been necessary.

While the server and food made for a good experience, the host’s attitude really needs improvement. I hope management addresses this so future guests can have the welcoming experience they deserve.

“Rih, is the best server i’ve ever had. She catered to not only us but our child as well. Even cleaned his bottle he dropped. You don’t get above and beyond service like that anymore. Maybe I am just being spiteful. I admit that. However, I went into this bar/restaurant because I was parked at the public beach parking next door and the meter could not accept credit card payments—it was broken. I asked if they could break a hundred dollar bill and they flat said no. She said they didn’t have it. The bar was packed. I find that hard to believe. She didn’t ask any of the servers or the manager. I realize it is a restaurant and not a bank but the interaction just felt discourteous. I worked in the service industry for years and it just was not personable. End rant lol. I will be at the beach all day but I will not be taking my family to this restaurant for lunch or dinner. Not today or ever. And I’m posting this review because that is the impact of a negative service interaction“

“Since I live in Ponce Inlet, I've been to Down the Hatch many times and have always found their seafood to be so fresh all the time. This time I had my sons visiting me from St. Louis, they wanted to eat at the best restaurant for seafood, and of course, we went right here and it didn't disappoint. They especially loved the shecrab soup with the sherry on the side. It was scrumptious. Their dinners were wonderful, as well as the desserts. Needless to say, we went home with plenty of leftovers. Steve, the server was great. All in all, it was a perfect night. So whether you live nearby or on vacation, make it a point to dine there.“

If a server passed your table, with a smile they asked how everything was and did you need anything. Best staff attitude I have seen in a long time. Cudos to the Staff and mgt. “My husband and I decided to stop in for breakfast yesterday morning. They were busy, but we were seated right away by a polite hostess. Pam was our waitressand she was wonderful. She recommended the BEC breakfast (with cheesy grits) and it was perfect. The sandwich was delicious and my first time for the cheesy grits and they were very yummy with a layer of melted and browned cheese on top. Pam was very attentive and checked back on us making sure we had everything we wanted. Though they were busy the service and food was great !“
