“Though The Muddy Root’s menu is already hard to beat, the real magic lies in the staff here. It doesn’t matter what day you come in; you’ll always be met by someone warm, welcoming, and ready to explain anything you’d like to know about their WIDE variety of menu items. If you’re not a kava or kratom person, this cafe offers a coffee and tea menu that’s highly customizable. Whatever you’re looking for- something sweet, something strong, something refreshing- the kavatenders (their “bartenders”) will always know how to make it happen. Even when my drink doesn’t taste right the first time (which rarely happens), the staff is beyond happy to add or substitute anything so that it’s just what I want. A literal 2-minute drive from UCF (and right between two major UCF apartments), this is an amazing study spot. Plenty of outlets and a variety of seating, plus free WiFi (after ordering). Plenty of students, professionals, and hobbyists work here, so it’s a productive environment. If you’re looking for a more social atmosphere, they also host social events all throughout the month, from trivia and AYCD kava nights to karaoke and even nature hikes! If I could rate The Muddy Root on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give them an 11. A definite must-try!“

She found Pups Pub with a quick google search and off we went. Entry was painless and simple. Reassurances that canine patrons are vaccinated and spayed/neutered are very clear. Happy hour is more than fair. They have games on site, a really great indoor and outdoor seating areas, lots for the pups to do and they all seem to know eachother and get along great. I came without any animals and was warmly welcomed by everyone on 2 or 4 legs. I honestly had the time of my life just playing with everyone’s dogs and could have stayed there all night.“

“The Other Bar is a downtown Orlando staple located on Wall Street, surrounded by a cluster of other bars. The name isn’t just clever—it’s called The Other Bar because it’s the only bar on that stretch owned by a different owner, which already gives it a bit of its own identity.

This place is very much a local favorite, and for good reason. I’m a fan of the complimentary popcorn (simple pleasures matter), and while the bathrooms might look a little scary at first glance, they’re generally clean—which honestly puts them ahead of many dive bars downtown that barely qualify as functional.

The space itself is bigger than it initially appears, almost deceiving when you first walk in. Over the years, the interior has seen steady upgrades, and it shows. The stage is well lit, and every Monday I frequent their open mic—an event that’s been running for decades and continues to be a cornerstone of the local comedy scene.

There’s also an outdoor patio and bar area, which adds a nice option when the weather cooperates. One moment that really stood out to me was Thanksgiving, when they hosted a Friendsgiving and fed all the comedians who regularly perform there. “Highly recommend for family gatherings! We just had our Baby Shower in their event space & we had an amazing time. All the staff was super friendly, very accommodating and easy to work with & book. The food and drinks were delicious and fast. Our host/waitress was so sweet and fun and great about interacting with everyone at the shower. The kids present were very happy to feed the gators, visit the parrots, and pretty much wander around in between the games. Open air so smoking is okay if that's your thing. Your drink strength correlates directly to how good of a conversation you can give the bartender.

“Wall Street Plaza is located across the street from the Heritage Square Park, home of the Orange County Regional History Center. It was created in 1995 as a premier entertainment complex with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, it hosts block parties, live music, and sporting events along with special events for Halloween, New Year’s Eve, and Oktoberfest. Every weekend they have block parties on Friday and Saturday nights.

On a recent Sunday afternoon, downtown Orlando seemed pretty dead until we came upon Wall St. Plaza where all the party people were living it up. Venues are set in historic buildings and include Rivals Activity Bar, Rodeo All American Bar, Fixtion, Cantina, Warped Pour, The Monkey Bar, and the Hen House. In the middle is an open area plaza with tables and chairs where people can drink, hang out, and watch sports events on the large screens.

We came to have a drink at Bellhop which was much quieter than the activity outside but this looks like a really fun place to get food and a drink. I look forward to coming back and exploring more of the businesses.“
